  • Poly pyrrole polymer(ppy) has an excellent electrical conductivity and can be easily polymerized on anode to give various morophology according to doped anion on electroactive sites. To improve the properties of brittleness, ageing and hydrophobisity, poly furan polymer(pfu) having a high initiation potential was anodically implanted in this porous ppy film matrix to get the Pt/ppy/pfu(x)type of polymer composite electrode. Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance methods were used to these electrode, where $PF_6^-,\; BF_4^-$, and $ClO_4^-$ ions were employed as dopants. The composition of the pfu(x) at the electrode was changed from 0 to 1.10, but the range was useful only at 0.1 to 0.2 as the redox electrode. The polymer composite electrode doped with $PF_6^-$ was better in charge transfer resistance by a factor of 40 times and in double layer capacitance by a factor of 20 times than others. The charge transfer in the polymer film of the electrode was influenced on frequency change and equivalent circuit of this electrode had Warburg impedance including mass transfer.

  • The sound absorption coefficient and sound transmission loss of graphite intercalation compound (GIC) included epoxy composites were investigated. Epoxy resin was infused into the expanded GIC and the impedance tube method was employed to measure the sound absorption coefficient and sound transmission loss. Scanning electron microscopy photographs showed uniform distribution of the GIC in the epoxy matrix. The surface density of epoxy/GIC (20 wt%) composites decreased about 56% compared to that of pure epoxy. The sound absorption coefficient of composites increased about 3 times at the frequency range of 500~1000 Hz compared to the pure epoxy. The sound transmission loss of composites decreased with increasing the GIC content and it is attributed to the increase of pores in the composites.

  • [011] poled ternary Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PIN-PMN-PT) single crystals have been investigated for active materials for acoustic transducers because of their high piezoelectric properties in both shear and transverse modes. In order to use [011] poled PIN-PMN-PT single crystals for acoustic transducers, the characterization of full-matrix material properties is required. In this study, full sets of compliance, dielectric, and piezoelectric constants of [011] poled rhombohedral PIN-PMN-PT were measured by a resonance method. Dimensions and geometries of 12 samples were proposed for measuring 17 independent material constants of [011] poled rhombohedral PIN-PMN-PT single crystals. Two sets of samples with different PT concentrations, 0.24PIN-0.49PMN-0.27PT and 0.24PIN-0.46PMN-0.30PT, were fabricated and their material properties were measured. Measured impedance spectra and simulated impedance spectra of the samples were compared to check the accuracy of the measurements.

  • Background: Post-tuberculosis (TB) sequelae is a commonly encountered clinical entity, especially in high TB burden countries. This may represent chronic anatomic sequelae of previously treated TB, with frequent symptomatic presentation. This pilot study was aimed to investigate the pulmonary functions and systemic inflammatory markers in patients with post-TB sequelae (PTBS) and to compare them with post-TB without sequelae (PTBWS) participants and healthy controls. Methods: A total of 30 participants were enrolled, PTBS (n=10), PTBWS (n=10), and healthy controls (n=10). Pulmonary function tests included spirometry and measurement of airway impedance by impulse oscillometry. Serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1, transforming growth factor-β, and interferon-γ were estimated. Results: Slow vital capacity (SVC), forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), FEV1/FVC, and peak expiratory flow were significantly lower in PTBS as compared to controls. SVC and FEV1 were significantly less in PTBS as compared to PTBWS. Total airway impedance (Z5), total airway resistance (R5), central airway resistance (R20), area of reactance (Ax), and resonant frequency (Fres) were significantly higher and respiratory reactance at 5 and 20 Hz (X5, X20) were significantly lower in PTBS as compared to PTBWS. Spirometry parameters correlated with impulse oscillometry parameters in PTBS. Serum MMP-1 level was significantly higher in PTBS as compared to other groups. Conclusion: Significant pulmonary function impairment was observed in PTBS, and raised serum MMP-1 levels compared with PTBWS and healthy controls. Follow-up pulmonary function testing is recommended after treatment of TB for early diagnosis and treatment of PTBS.

  • Ammonium ion selective electrodes have been prepared using nonactin as an ionophore and poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) or polyurethane(PU) as a polymer matrix with or without a plasticizer, bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate, and their performances have been evaluated. The reults indicate that PU-based electrodes can be designed to perform better although PVC-based electrodes generally show better performances. In efforts to explain the obervation, we also carried out atomic force microscopy as well as impedance studies, and the results suggests that islands of ion-ophores are formed in the PVC membranes through which ion transfers appear to be more facile than through the PU membranes. The PU membranes appear to have ionophores better dispersed throughout the film and are more resistive to ion mobilities in comparison to PVC films.

  • A general characterization procedure based on the extraction of a 2n-port admittance matrix corresponding to n uniform coupled lines on the multi-layered substrate using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) technique is presented. In this paper, the frequency-dependent normal mode parameters are obtained from the 2n-port admittance matrix to analyze multi-layered asymmetric coupled line structure, which in turn provides the frequency-dependent propagation constant, effective dielectric constant, and line-mode characteristic impedances. To illustrate the technique, several practical coupled line structures on multi-layered substrate have been simulated. Especially, embedded conductor structures have been simulated. Comparisons with Spectral Domain Method are given, and their results agree well. It is shown that the FDTD based time domain characterization procedure is an excellent broadband simulation tool for the design of multiconductor coupled lines on multilayered PCBs as well as thick or thin hybrid structures.

  • In this study, we developed reflection tomography inversion algorithm using Straight Ray Technique (SRT) which can calculate travel time easily and fast for complex geological structure. The inversion process begins by setting the initial velocity model as a constant velocity model that hat only impedance boundaries. The inversion process searches a layer-interface structure model that is able to explain the given data satisfactorily by inverting to minimize data misfit. For getting optimal solution, we used Gauss-Newton method that needed constructing the approximate Hessian matrix. We also applied the Marquart-Levenberg regularization method to this inversion process to prevent solution diverging. The ability of the method to resolve typical target structures was tested in a synthetic salt dome inversion. Using the inverted velocity model, we obtained the migration image close to that of the true velocity model.

  • Anodically Polymerized conducting Polypyrrole film electrode was employed to Pick up uranyl ion with the type of Gr/ppy, xylenol orange modified electrode. To have Porous and oriented ppy film, NBR was applied as precoating agent. The rate constant of polymerization was $3.22\times10^{-3}s^{-1}$ which was 1.6 times smaller value than bare graphite surface. The deposited amount of uranyl iou on $1.70Ccm^{-2}$ of ppy was $1.55\times10^{-4}g$. The matrix effect in artificial seawater was $6.8\%$. The polymer film electrode has a diffusion controlled process in conduction, but the modified Gr/ppy, $X.O^{4-}UO^+$ type was influenced on the ion doping and electronic conduction of film itself owing to increasing of impedance. The capacitance of electrical double layer was respectively enhanced to 56 and 130 times in Gr/ppy, $X.O.^{4-}$ and Gr/ppy, $X.O^{4-}UO^+$ than Grippy type electrode.

  • The capacity of the carbonaceous materials reached ca. $350\;mAhg^{-1}$ which is close to theorestical value of the carbon intercalation composition $LiC_6$, resulting in a relatively low volumetric Li capacity. Notwithstanding the capacities of carbon, it will not adjust well to the need so future devices. Silicon shows the highest gravimetric capacities (up to $4000\;mAhg^{-1}$ for $Li_{21}Si_5$). Although Si is the most promising of the next generation anodes, it undergoes a large volume change during lithium insertion and extraction. It results in pulverization of the Si and loss of electrical contact between the Si and the current collector during the lithiation and delithiation. Thus, its capacity fades rapidly during cycling. We focused on electrode materials in the multiphase form which were composed of two metal compounds to reduce the volume change in material design. A combination of electrochemically amorphous active material in an inert matrix (Si-M) has been investigated for use as negative electrode materials in lithium ion batteries. The matrix composited of Si-M alloys system that; active material (Si)-inactive material (M) with Li; M is a transition metal that does not alloy with Li with Li such as Ti, V or Mo. We fabricated and tested a broad range of Si-M compositions. The electrodes were sputter-deposited on rough Cu foil. Electrochemical, structural, and compositional characterization was performed using various techniques. The structure of Si-M alloys was investigated using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Surface morphologies of the electrodes are observed using a field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The electrochemical properties of the electrodes are studied using the cycling test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). It is found that the capacity is strongly dependent on Si content and cycle retention is also changed according to M contents. It may be beneficial to find materials with high capacity, low irreversible capacity and that do not pulverize, and that combine Si-M to improve capacity retention.

  • A thorough study about the influences of Mn substitution for Fe on the microstructure and magnetic characteristics of $Fe_{73.5-x}Mn-{x}Si_{13.5}B_{9}Nb_{3}Cu_1$ (x = 1, 3, 5) alloys prepared by the melt-spinning technique has been performed. Nanocomposites composed of nanoscale $(Fe,Mn)_{3}Si$ magnetic phase embedded in an amorphous matrix were obtained by annealing their amorphous alloys at $535^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The addition of Mn causes a slight increase in the mean grain size. The Curie temperatures of the initial amorphous phase and of the nanocrystals phase decreased, while the Curie temperature of the remaining amorphous phase remained nearly constant with increasing Mn content. Soft magnetic properties of the crystallized samples have been significantly improved by a proper thermal treatment. Accordingly, the giant magnetoimpedance effect is observed and ascribed to the increase of the magnetic permeability, and the decrease of the coercivity of the samples. The increased magnetic permeability is resulted from a decrease in the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and saturation magnetostriction.
