  • An electron microbeam system has been developed to investigate the biological effect of cells by irradiating cell-nuclei with low-energy and low-flux electrons. It is essential to discern the cell nucleus from its cytoplasm and the culture medium and to locateit exactly onto the beam exit. The irradiation speed at more than 10,000 cells per hour is another requisite for the observations on cellular response to have good statistics. Long-time labor with patience and high concentration is needed since the frames of $320{\times}240{\mu}m^2$ should be moved more than 500 times for irradiating more than 10,000 cells per an hour. This paper describes the electron microbeam system with a focus on the user interfaces concerning the process of automatically recognizing the cell nuclei and injecting electron beam into the target cell nuclei at the irradiation speed of more than 10,000 cell nuclei per hour.

  • This study is to help make-up and coordination for image-making after analysis of facial color and shape of elderly women. The data was analyzed 55-75 years old 212 elderly women's face color and pictures by means of SPSS 12.0 statistics package. On the basis of the colorimetric data on face by Minolta CM2500D, this research considered the analysis of facial color, patternization of facial color and its analysis by age group; for the analysis of facial shape, this research patternized facial shape and analyzed its characteristic using both contour-based facial shape analysis and Kamata facial shape analysis. As for facial color, it was found that the lower age bracket has bright and reddish face, looking fine, while the higher age bracket has a conspicuously yellowish face, looking bad. The community of facial color is classified as 3 types and it was found out that the facial color of the subjects belonging to Type 3, whose L value is the largest, looked the brightest; the face of the subjects belonging to Type 2, whose a value is the largest, was much tinged with red, and the face of the subjects belonging to Type 1, whose b value is the largest were tinged with yellow. According to the analysis of facial shape, there appeared oval & long forms in the classification by contour, while there appeared a lot of downward-directed power and inner-directed power in the classification by Kamata, which is believed to reflect the phenomenon that their chin line becomes roundish and the facial length also tend to be longer due to aging.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the performance of local spatial autocorrelation techniques in identifying spatial distribution patterns of green spaces. To achieve the objective, this researcher uses satellite image analysis and spatial autocorrelation techniques. The result of the study shows that the LISA cluster map with the spatial outlier cluster is superior to other analytical methods in identifying the spatial distribution pattern of urban green space. This study can contribute to the related fields in that it uses several different research methods than the existing ones. Despite this differentiation and usefulness, this study has limitations in using low-resolution satellite imagery and NDVI among vegetation indices in identifying spatial distribution patterns of green areas. These limitations may be overcome in future studies by using UAV images or by simultaneously using several vegetation indices.

  • This study investigates the relationship among interactivity, telepresence, flow, and future behavior intention in internet shopping. Respondents were female consumers age 20 to 30. These consumers are regarded to have experience in internet shopping. 500 samples were used in this research. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were used for this study. As the result, interactivity, telepresence, and flow affect future behavior intention. Flow is the most influential variable affecting the future behavior intention. It implies that hedonic shopping experience (aroused by flow) can increase the future behavior intention of consumers. Consumers can operate and change the product image with convenience by encouraging interactivity between the internet fashion shopping mall and consumers. Through the technology, the experience 'flow' of consumers can provide a sense of telepresence as if they were shopping in a real store. Consumers may feel unconscious of the passage of time and feel fun, free, and original. Therefore, the internet shopping mall should pay attention to what customers demand and reflect it through e-mail, real time chatting, and text messages. In addition, rich product information such as detailed images should be supplied to help customers visualize looks.

  • A machine vision-based instrument to measure a droplet size spectrum of a spray nozzle was developed and tested to evaluate its accuracy on measuring spray droplet sizes and classifying nozzle sizes. The instrument consisted of a machine vision, light emitting diode (LED) illumination and a desktop computer. The illumination and machine vision were controlled by the computer through a C++ program. The program controlled the machine vision to capture droplet images under controlled illumination, and processed the droplet images to characterize the droplet size distribution of a spray nozzle. An image processing algorithm was developed to improve the accuracy of the system by eliminating random noise and out-of-focus droplets in droplet images while measuring droplet sizes. The instrument measured sizes of the three different balls (254.0, 497.8 and $793.8\;{\mu}m$) and the measurement ranges were $241.2-273.6\;{\mu}m$, $492.9-529.6\;{\mu}m$ and $800.8-824.1\;{\mu}m$ for 254.0-, 497.84- and $793.75-\;{\mu}m$ balls, respectively. Error of the measured droplet mean was less than 3.0 %. Droplet statistics, $D_{V0.1}$, $D_{V0.5}$ and $D_{V0.9}$, of a reference nozzle set were measured, and droplet size spectra of five spray nozzles covering from very fine to extremely coarse were measured to classify spray nozzle sizes. Ninety percent of the classification results of the instrument agreed with manufacturer's classification. A comparison study was carried out between developed and commercial instruments, and measurement results of the developed instrument were within 20 % of commercial instrument results.
