  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the expressional traits and meanings of body images in contemporary fashion illustration, based on postmodern body theories and body images in postmodern art. For achieving the purpose, this study performed related research works and undertook a demonstrative analysis of fashion illustrations. The results are as follows : The postmodern body theories not only opposed, deconstructed the traditional concepts and norms of body, but also revealed the suppressed facts of it. Also they composed the new concepts of body. The expressional traits of body images in postmodern art and contemporary fashion illustration were categorized as realistically presented body, distorted/deformed body, fragmented body, abject body, post-gendered body and absent body. Through these traits, the meanings of defiance to authority, revelation of reality, new creation were expressed. In conclusion, the various body images in contemporary fashion illustration reflect open concepts for human beings and give new aesthetic experiences.

  • The search for relevant and actionable information is a key to achieving clinical and research goals in biomedicine. Biomedical information exists in different forms: as text and illustrations in journal articles and other documents, in images stored in databases, and as patients' cases in electronic health records. This paper presents ways to move beyond conventional text-based searching of these resources, by combining text and visual features in search queries and document representation. A combination of techniques and tools from the fields of natural language processing, information retrieval, and content-based image retrieval allows the development of building blocks for advanced information services. Such services enable searching by textual as well as visual queries, and retrieving documents enriched by relevant images, charts, and other illustrations from the journal literature, patient records and image databases.

  • Korean species of Achyrolimonia, Dicranoptycha and Helius crane flies (Diptera: Limoniidae) are taxonomically revised. Identification keys, redescriptions and illustrations of all species and both sexes, if they were found in Korea, are presented. Genus Achyrolimonia is new record for the Korean peninsula, genera Dicranoptycha and Helius are new records for South Korea, species Helius (Helius) obliteratus (Alexander, 1920) is new record for the Korean peninsula and new record for the continent. Illustrations of females of D. diacantha Alexander, 1938 and H. gracillimus Alexander, 1938 are provided and female of D. prolongata Alexander, 1938 is described and illustrated for the first time.

  • This study has been done to help teach mathematics on the spot of education by providing the history of mathematics and illustrations concerning mathematics, which were rearranged for the level of the second grade students in highschool and intented to interest students in mathematics classes. The contents of teaching, according to each unit (Matrix, Sequence, Limit, Differentiation, Integration, Probability, Statistics) include the life of the representative mathematician, the historical background centered on episodes, questions linked with reality, questions making sensations in history and something for maxim in mathematics. If such contents are properly used, they are expected to be able to stimulate students' curiosity, and to be effective in improving students' learning ability in mathematics by causing them to show their active attitudes toward learning mathematics.

  • A specimen of the oribatid mite, Gustavia aominensis Fujikawa, 2008, was isolated from litter and soil samples of Sasa borealis at Cheongok Mountain Natural Recreation Forest in Bonghwa, Gyeongbuk, Korea. This is the first record of this species in Korea. We provide detailed illustrations of the diagnostic features of this species relative to the original description as well as a key for Korean Gustavia species along with illustrations.

  • Objectives: The quadrant theorem is a theorem proposed by C. M. Guzay in the field of functional, holistic dentistry. There are not much of scientific literature on the quadrant theorem. This study briefly reviewed basic concepts of quadrant theorem. Methods: A publication by Guzay and research articles were searched and reviewed. The quadrant theorem is depicted as a series of illustrations and accompanied explanations. Results: The primary concept of the quadrant theorem was presented in 1952. Based on geometric biophysics of the occlusion and related anatomical functions, physiological pivotal axis of the mandible is analyzed to occurs at the dens (the sub-atlas area). Composite muscular activity links the mandibular posture with C1-C2, which is then linked with the spinal posture. Twenty illustrations are progressively presented on the physiognomy, occlusion, and analysis of anatomical functions. The balanced distribution of the forces gives the durability of the functions in life. Conclusions: The quadrant theorem provides a functional linkage between the mandibular posture and the upper cervical vertebrae.

  • It is shown by the heterogenous nature of Borzi’s description and illustrations that Hormotila mucigena Borzi, the generitype of Hormotila, should be redefined. Borzi’s original description and accompanying illustrations of Hormotila (constituting the protologue) correspond to a minimum of five distinct genera of green algae. Two distinct concepts of the genus have persisted over the years. The genus has become based on a combination of palmelloid and physiologically stressed forms of two of the component algae. Our understanding of the genus is further confused by the incorporation of unrelated unicellular and colonial coccoid forms. There are only one or two distinctive attributes that would allow the selection of any one of the five forms as representing the genus and species. One of Borzi’s original figures is proposed to redefine the original species of the genus, Hormotila mucigena.

  • The study was proposed to establish the effective color image planning and to suggest the color combination data for clothing through historic costume. To test the suggested method The Color Image Scale developed in Japan was adapted, For the practical study 21 fashion illustrations of Art Deco period (1910-1930) were selec-ted. Color images analysed from these illustrations were seleted with the key words extracted from political economical social background and art of Art Deco period. Three of the image categories clear modern and dynamic were sutable to express the images of this period. The image categories representing color image of Art Deco costume were dynamic modern classic, casual, clear, nature and gorgeous.
