Combining Object Detection and Hand Gesture Recognition for Automatic Lighting System Control

  • Recently, smart lighting systems are the combination between sensors and lights. These systems turn on/off and adjust the brightness of lights based on the motion of object and the brightness of environment. These systems are often applied in places such as buildings, rooms, garages and parking lot. However, these lighting systems are controlled by lighting sensors, motion sensors based on illumination environment and motion detection. In this paper, we propose an automatic lighting control system using one single camera for buildings, rooms and garages. The proposed system is one integration the results of digital image processing as motion detection, hand gesture detection to control and dim the lighting system. The experimental results showed that the proposed system work very well and could consider to apply for automatic lighting spaces.

컴퓨터실에 있어서 VDT작업공간의 조명환경 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Lighting Environment Improvement of the VDT Workspaces in Computer Room)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the lighting environment of the VDT workspaces in computer laboratory. This study was carried out through the field measurements on the computer laboratory and a survey using the questionnaire about the VDT workspaces. The major findings of the study were as follows: (1) It was unbalanced among the illumination, luminance, and color distributions in the the VDT workspaces. (2) The difference of brightness between the CRT screen and its surroundings have presented on the whole unbalanced. (3) It was proved that the artificial light source of the ceiling lighting should use the parabolic louver luminaire limiting the radiant luminance.

  • An inflow of daylight to the room offers comfortable view environment, psychological and physical security to people in the room and there are merits such as a work efficiency and energy saving. But, it has many problems as an excessive direct sunlight, cooling and heating. We can expect to have energy saving effect for illumination with comfortable view environment creation through control on height of roller shade. This study will be a used a fundamental approach to control on height of roller shade to changing daylight.

  • In this paper, we proposed localization method of mobile robot using color landmark mounted on ceiling. This work is composed 2 parts : landmark recognition part which finds the position of multiple landmarks in image and identifies them and absolute position estimation part which estimates the location and orientation of mobile robot in indoor environment. In landmark recognition part, mobile robot detects artificial color landmarks using simple histogram intersection method in rg color space which is insensitive to the change of illumination. Then absolute position estimation part calculates relative position of the mobile robot to the detected landmarks. For the verification of proposed algorithm, ceiling-orientated camera was installed on a mobile robot and performance of localization was examined by designed artificial color landmarks. As the result of test, mobile robot could achieve the reliable landmark detection and accurately estimate the position of mobile robot in indoor environment.

  • This paper reports the development of a mobile robot for patrol using a single laser range finder. A Laser range finder is useful for outdoor environment regardless of illumination change or various weather conditions. In this paper we combined the motion control of the mobile robot and the algorithm for detecting the outdoor environment. For obstacle avoidance, we adopted the Vector Field Histogram algorithm. A laser range finder is mounted on the mobile robot and looking down the road with a small tilt angle. We propose an algorithm for detecting the surface of the road. The outdoor patrol robot platform is equipped with a DGPS system, a gyro-compass sensor, and a laser range finder. The proposed obstacle avoidance and road detection algorithms were experimentally tested in success.

  • An active omni-directional raging system using an omni-directional vision with structured light has many advantages compared to the conventional ranging systems: robustness against external illumination noise because of the laser structured light and computational efficiency because of one shot image containing $360^{\circ}$ environment information from the omni-directional vision. The omni-directional range data represents a local distance map at a certain position in the workspace. In this paper, we propose a matching algorithm for the local distance map with the given global map database, thereby to localize a mobile robot in the global workspace. Since the global map database consists of line segments representing edges of environment object in general, the matching algorithm is based on relative position and orientation of line segments in the local map and the global map. The effectiveness of the proposed omni-directional ranging system and the matching are verified through experiments.

PV 일체형 태양광발전 광선반시스템의 성능평가 (The Performance Evaluation of Photovoltaic-integrated Lightshelf Systems)

  • The lightshelf system, a daylighting device, has been applied to improve the visual environment by optimal light distributions and intense illumination levels of a interior. Also, The photovoltaic is one of the most important sustainable technologies appliable to architectures. This study aims to evaluate the performance of photovoltaic integrated lightshelf system. For the study, the 1/5 scaled office models were made and the field tests were experimented under clear sky conditions. The power ratio has been analyzed to evaluate the performance of photovoltaic integrated lightshelf system. As results, the power performance was high on photovoltaic lightshelf installation angle $0^{\circ}$. And the performance was reduced on 23(%) by installation angle $15^{\circ}$ and 63(%) by installation angle $30^{\circ}$.

A Study on a effective Information Compressor Algorithm for the variable environment variation using the Kalman Filter

  • This paper describes a effective information compressor algorithm for the fourth industrial technology. One of the difficult problems for outdoor is to obtain effective updating process of background images. Because input images generally contain the shadows of buildings, trees, moving clouds and other objects, they are changed by lapse of time and variation of illumination. They provide the lowering of performance for surveillance system under outdoor. In this paper, a effective information algorithm for variable environment variable under outdoor is proposed, which apply the Kalman Estimation Modeling and adaptive threshold on pixel level to separate foreground and background images from current input image. In results, the better SNR of about 3dB~5dB and about 10%~25% noise distribution rate in the proposed method. Furthermore, it was showed that the moving objects can be detected on various shadows under outdoor and better result Information.

이동로봇을 위한 IR 랜드마크 기반의 실시간 실내 측위 시스템 (A Real-time Localization System Based on IR Landmark for Mobile Robot in Indoor Environment)

  • The localization is one of the most important issues for mobile robot. This paper describes a novel localization system for the development of a location sensing network. The system comprises wirelessly controlled infrared landmarks and an image sensor which detects the pixel positions of infrared sources. The proposed localization system can operate irrespective of the illumination condition in the indoor environment. We describe the operating principles of the developed localization system and report the performance for mobile robot localization and navigation. The advantage of the developed system lies in its robustness and low cost to obtain location information as well as simplicity of deployment to build a robot location sensing network. Experimental results show that the developed system outperforms the state-of-the-art localization methods.

창호일체형 광선반 시스템 채광성능 평가 (Daylighting Performance Evaluation of window Integrated Light Shelf System)

  • The lightshelf system, a horizontal shading and light redirect device, should improve the visual environment by optimal light distributions and intense illumination levels of a interior. This study aims to evaluate the daylighting performance of window integrated lightshelf systems by computer simulations. For the study, the standard office plan is analyzed through the field surveys. And then, the various lightshelf types attached window systems are picked out from existed research results. The max, minimum and average illuminance levels of interiors and illuminance distributions are evaluated by Lightsacpe 3.2 programs based on the installing height, shape type and moving angle of lightshelfs. As results, it is suggested that the optimum lightshelf shapes are the height 1.8m and the width 600mm. Also, in mixed lightshelf, the outside width 600mm, inside width 400 are efficient on indoor daylighting performance.
