  • Identifying ship types is an important process to prevent illegal activities on territorial waters and assess marine traffic of Vessel Traffic Services Officer (VTSO). However, the Terrestrial Automatic Identification System (T-AIS) collected at the ground station has over 50% of vessels that do not contain the ship type information. Therefore, this study proposes a method of identifying ship types through the Random Forest Classifier (RFC) from dynamic and static data of AIS and V-Pass for one year and the Ulsan waters. With the hypothesis that six features, the speed, course, length, breadth, time, and location, enable to estimate of the ship type, four classification models were generated depending on length or breadth information since 81.9% of ships fully contain the two information. The accuracy were average 96.4% and 77.4% in the presence and absence of size information. The result shows that the proposed method is adaptable to identifying ship types.

  • Under the WTO system, the farm size expansion or the existing korean agricultural structure should be improved to cope with farm income decrease and to continue rice cultivation for food security in the future. This study is aimed at identifying optimum farm size under trade liberalization and import and export parity price system of inputs and outputs. The optimum farm size expressed the minimum point of long run average cost is determined as 15.1ha. The farm size to be equalized as urban laborer's income of 37,361 thousand won per year was revealed 30ha. Therefore the G't recommended farm size of 6ha should be changed to 30ha and the concerned policies for agricultural structure improvement also should be changed to more flexibilitiy.

  • The size of head capsule is one of the most important factors for identifying developmental stage. In order to understand the developmental characteristics of the butterfly Atrophaneura alcinous, we examined fluctuations in larval head capsule size under three different temperature conditions (20, 25, and $30^{\circ}C$) and 60% humidity. As a result, larvae developed to the fifth instar at all three temperatures. The head capsule size of larvae tended to be larger at the lowest temperature and smaller at the highest temperature. The development rate showed a regular change, consistent with Dyar's rule regarding head capsule size development. Furthermore, the development of head capsule size was found to correspond to a second degree polynomial regression better than to a linear regression. On the basis of these results, it would appear to be possible to perform an accurate assessment of instar status during the development of A. alcinous.

  • A modified primal-dual affine scaling algorithm for linear programming is presented. This modified algorithm generates an elipsoid containing all optimal dual solutions at each iteration, then checks whether or not a dual hyperplane intersects this ellipsoid. If the dual hyperplane has no intersection with this ellipsoid, its corresponding column must be optimal nonbasic. By condensing these columns, the size of LP problem can be reduced.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that affect employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career at hospitals. Methods : Data were collected from 4,307 employees working at 5 university hospitals. Statistics were done with the SPSS program version 21.0. Results : There were significant differences in employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career. Additionally, there were positive correlations between each of the factors for employee satisfaction and overall employee satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed that overall employee satisfaction was affected by factors such as job, communication, personnel and leadership according to hospital size, job group and career. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that by identifying the differences in satisfaction of employees who are working in different circumstances and providing resources to satisfy employee needs, hospital employers can promote the growth of the hospital by reducing employee turnover.

  • Power and sample size estimation is one of the crucially important steps in planning a genetic association study to achieve the ultimate goal, identifying candidate genes for disease susceptibility, by designing the study in such a way as to maximize the success possibility and minimize the cost. Here we review the optimal two-stage genotyping designs for genomewide association studies recently investigated by Wang et al(2006). We review two mathematical frameworks most commonly used to compute power in genetic association studies prior to the main study: Monte-Carlo and non-central chi-square estimates. Statistical powers are computed by these two approaches for case-control genotypic tests under one-stage direct association study design. Then we discuss how the linkage-disequilibrium strength affects power and sample size, and how to use empirically-derived distributions of important parameters for power calculations. We provide useful information on publicly available softwares developed to compute power and sample size for various study designs.

  • Purpose: To determine the minimal illumination for visual acuity with the decimal vision chart and individual difference with varying contrast and illumination. Methods: Landolt's vision chart with 10 different grade of contrast was made. Minimal illumination was measured for 69 eyes using 100% contrast vision chart. Minimal contrast for identifying the chart was measured in conditions of the minimal illumination and 230 lx, respectively. Results: Minimal illumination was gradually increased with decrease of the chart size. Mean of minimal illumination to identify the 1.0 visual acuity was $74.39{\pm}25.90$ lx with range of 17~107 lx. In conditions of the minimal illumination and 230 lx, the minimal contrast for identifying the chart were gradually increased with decrease of the chart size in both conditions, the those deviation for 69 eyes was also increased. Conclusions: For refractive correction, examiners need to consider the individual difference for identifying the visual chart according to illumination and contrast.

  • This paper contains an introduction to industrial problems, solutions, and results conducted with the Korea Association of Machinery Industry. The client company commissioned the problem of upgrading the method of identifying global supply risky items. Accordingly, the factors affecting the supply and demand of imported items in the global supply chain were identified and the method of selecting risky items was studied and delivered. Through research and discussions with the client companies, it is confirmed that the most suitable factors for identifying global supply risky items are 'import size', 'import dependence', and 'trend abnormality'. The meaning of each indicator is introduced, and risky items are selected using export/import data until October 2022. Through this paper, it is expected that countries and companies will be able to identify global supply risky items in advance and prepare for risks in the new normal situation: the economic situation caused by infectious diseases such as the COVID-19 pandemic; and the export/import regulation due to geopolitical problems. The client company will include in his report, the method presented in this paper and the risky items selected by the method.

  • The FSA algorithm for identifying multiple tags in RFID systems is based on the slotted ALOHA scheme with a fixed frame size. The performance of FSA algorithm is dependent on the frame size and the number of tags in the reader's identification range. Therefore, this paper proposes a new ODFSA. The proposed ODFSA algorithm dynamically allocates the optimal frame size at every frame based on the number of tags in the reader's identification range. According to the simulation results, the system efficiency of the proposed algorithm should be maintained optimally. Also, the proposed algorithm always obtained the minimum tag identification delay.

  • Grain size analysis is the most basic procedure for identifying the origin, transport and sedimentation processes of sediments, and is widely used in geomorphology and sedimentology. Traditionally, grain size was determined by a sieve-pippette method, but the use of automated analyzers is increasing in recent years. These analyzers have many advantages over traditional techniques, but the measurement results are not always the same. It is still difficult to solve the pretreatment problem such as incomplete diffusion and residual organic matter, and inappropriate results may be obtained. This study compared image-based grain size analysis and sieve analysis to verify its statistical reliability, and conducted experiments to enhance the measurement accuracy using shape parameters. The results showed that the image-based analysis overestimated the grain size of sand dunes by about 7% compared to the sieve analysis, but the two measurements were not statistically different. In addition, by using shape parameters, such as aspect ratio, sphericity, and convexity, improved statistics were obtained compared to the original data. Using the morphological properties of the individual grains is a complementary method to the incomplete pretreatment of the grain size analysis process, and at the same time, it will contribute to improving the accuracy and reliability of the results.
