  • Simplified debris, Calculus and oral hygiene indices of 145 mental Disorders examined in order to appraise oral hygiene status were Calculated and compared wicth the findings of other investigators. The obtained results were as follows; 1) Oral hygiene status of mental Disorders was very poor and became worse by ageing 2) Sexual characterics influenced slightly to oral hygiene status 3) No salient differences were found in the oral hygiene status among the intellegence quotient groups

임상치위생관리과정 수행 전·후에 따른 구강위생 상태 비교 (Comparison of oral hygiene status by clinical dental hygiene care performance)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral hygiene status before and after the dental hygiene care performance to patients by the dental hygienists. Methods : Subjects were 55 adults visiting to dental clinics in Chungnam. The patients agreed to undergo a dental hygiene care performance. A skilled dental hygienist provided dental hygiene care performance including periodontal status, halitosis and oral hygiene status. Results : The periodontal pocket depth was compared before and after the performance. The depth dropped from 4.02 mm to 2.81 mm, and the value of halitosis dropped from 45.78 bbv to 35.76 bbv. The O'Leary index of the patients dropped form 49.37 to 32.84, and all the differences were statistically significant. Conclusions : Proper use of oral hygiene supplies and regular dental checkup can prevent periodontal diseases. This study will provide the useful information of the effective application of dental hygiene care performance.

강원도 일부 초등학생의 자가구강건강인식과 구강건강상태의 관련성 (Association between Perceived Oral Health and Oral Health Status of Elementary School Students in Gangwon Province, South Korea)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between perceived oral health and oral health status, oral health symptoms in elementary school students. Methods: Oral examination and oral hygiene survey were performed on 446 students in 5th grade from 4 elementary schools in Wonju, Gangwon province. Oral examination assessed decayed teeth, filled teeth, missing teeth from decay. Then, oral hygiene status was evaluated by O'Leary index and self-reported questionnaires were surveyed. We analysed the collected data using SPSS program ver. 20.0, significant difference level was p<0.05. Results: 38.4% of the subjects rated their oral health as poor, 61.6% as good, female students was worried about their appearances than male students. Their decayed teeth was 1.01, missed teeth was 0.01, filled teeth was 1.75, O'Leary index was 64.49, oral hygiene status of them was poor. Perceived oral health was associated to decayed teeth, DMFT, oral health symptoms except tooth fracture and pain of mucosa (p<0.05). However, there is no correlation between perceived oral health and oral hygiene status (p>0.05) Conclusion: Self-rated oral health status of the elementary school students was related to decayed teeth and oral health symptoms, but it was not related to oral hygiene status. Therefore it was needed to improve the oral hygiene status in elementary students by devise effective way to motivate them.

D중공업 근로자의 구강위생용품 사용실태 조사 (A Study on the Status of Practical Application of Oral Hygiene Devices :with labor of the D heavy industries)

  • 본 연구는 구강위생용품의 사용 실태를 알아보기 위하여 S시 D중공업의 근로자를 대상으로 가정에서 가장 관심을 가지고 관리하는 구강병, 잇솔의 사용실태, 불소치약의 사용여부, 구강위생보조용품의 사용실태, 구강위생보조용품의 사용 및 비사용의 동기를 조사 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 가정에서 가장 관심을 가지고 관리하는 구강병은 치아우식증(62.4%)으로 나타났다. 2. 칫솔 사용실태는 중간 크기를(79.6%) 가장 많이 사용하였다. 3. 잇솔의 강모 모양은 일반 수평형(73.5%)을 가장 많이 사용하였다. 4. 불소치약 사용여부는 아무 종류나 사용한다(73.5%)가 가장 많았다. 5. 구강위생용품의 인지도에 대해서는 전동잇솔이(77.0%)로 가장 높으며 구강위생보조 용품에 대한 인지도는 이쑤시개(89.4%)와 양치용액(84.5%)을 가장 많이 알고 있었다. 구강위생용품의 사용여부는 전동잇솔(13.3%), 치주환자용 잇솔(2.7%), 순서로 나타나며, 구강위생보조용품에서는 이쑤시개(58.4%), 양치용액(41.2%)의 순이었다. 사용효과는 틀니잇솔(50.0%), 전동잇솔(43.3%)로 나타났으며, 구강위생보조용 품에서 효과 여부는 물사출기(80.0%), 치실(75.8%)이 매우 높았다. 6. 구강위생보조용품을 사용하게 된 동기는 TV나 광고 홍보물을 보고 독자적인 판단으로 사용하는 경우가 (57.6%) 높게 나타났으며, 구강위생보조용품을 사용하지 않는 이유로는 자신에게 적절한 보조용품을 모르기 때문에 사용하지 못한다는 의견이 매우 높게 (57.4%)나타났다.

북한이탈가정 어린이의 구강위생상태 평가 (Evaluation of oral hygiene status in children of North Korea refugees families)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the oral hygiene status of children and adolescents from North Korean (NK) refugee families residing in South Korea (SK) and to find ways to improve it. Methods: This study examined 88 children in NK refugee families. Their oral hygiene ability were estimated using the Patient Hygiene Performance (PHP)-index for children. The Independent Samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were conducted on the oral hygiene status according to the characteristics of children of NK refugees, and covariance analysis was conducted by controlling for significant variables in the simple analysis. Statistical significance levels were set at than p<0.05. Results: The overall PHP-index of normal, poor, and severe poor were 14.8%, 5.7%, and 79.5%, respectively. Adjusted for sex, age, country of birth, duration of settlement, covariance analysis was performed to determine the PHP-index according to oral examination. PHP-index was 3.55±1.56 when the oral examination was conducted and 4.26±0.98 when the oral examination was not conducted; this difference was significantly (p=0.022). Conclusions: Children and from NK refugee families have severely poor oral hygiene. Therefore, education to improve the oral hygiene status is necessary.

국내 치위생학 교과목 운영실태 및 미국 치위생학교육 인정평가 기준과의 비교연구 (The implement status of dental hygiene curriculum in Korea and the comparison with the US ADA standard)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the improvement basis for Dental Hygiene education program by analyzing the current implement status of Dental Hygiene curriculum in Korea and comparing the status with the US ADA standard. The researcher analyzed the Dental Hygiene syllabus limiting "Dental prophxis", "Comprehensive dental hygiene" subjects only from 31 universities which offer 3 years program. The main interest was to figure the implementing status of the curriculum and to compare the actual teaching content with the CODA 2-17 standard. The results show that there are a number of problems in implementing the Dental Hygiene courses among different universities. First, there is a significant inconsistence among schools in terms of course title, total credit, hours, the ratio for theory and practice, etc. In addition, there is a big gap between the actual content of Dental Hygiene courses and the essential/required content of CODA 2-17 standard. For instance, most of the Dental Hygiene programs in Korea cover the overall assessment stage content and some of implementation stage content. However, very few programs deal with the planning and evaluation stage content. To improve these problematic circumstance a number of suggestions were made. Developing the standardized curriculum for the Dental Hygiene program might be one of the major solutions. Next, the regular accreditation and/or assessment system for the Dental Hygiene program should be developed. This research can provide the basis for the need to assess and improve the Dental Hygiene curriculum.

미혼여성의 월경용품 사용현황과 생식기 위생관리 정도 (Status of Use of Menstrual Hygiene Products and Genital Organ Hygiene Management in Unmarried Women)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of use of menstrual hygiene products and genital organ hygiene management in unmarried women. Methods: Data from 161 unmarried women were used for analysis. The instruments consisted of self-reported questionnaires that included 40 items: 20 on General Characteristics & Sexual Health Related Characteristics, 8 on Using Status of Menstrual Hygiene Products, 12 on Genital Organ Hygiene Management. Results: The subjects used disposable sanitary napkin as the most frequently but the satisfaction was low, while the use of reusable sanitary napkin and tampons were few, but satisfaction was high. Sixty-seven percent of the unmarried women had sex experience, and more than 60% experienced abnormal symptoms in the genital organ. There was a significant difference in genital organ hygiene management according to sex experience. Among subjects of this study, 44.1% wanted to use menstrual cup, and 98.8% wanted to have education for their menstrual hygiene products. Conclusion: Based on results of this study, a nationwide survey of the demand for menstrual hygiene products used by Korean women is needed, it is necessary to educate about the proper use of menstrual hygiene products and genital organ hygiene management.

북한이탈 학령기 아동에 대한 구강건강교육 효과 (Effect of Oral Health Education on Oral Health Knowledge, Oral Health Behavior and Oral Hygiene Status in Children from North Korea)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of oral health education on oral health knowledge, oral health behavior, and oral hygiene status of children from North Korea. Methods: Participants were 32 North Korean children defectors (15 in the education group, 17 in the control group). The oral health education program, including theoretical training and toothbrush training, was done once a week for 4 weeks. Effects of the education program were assessed for oral health knowledge, oral health behavior, and oral hygiene status at pretest, 0, and 4 weeks after the intervention. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANCOVA with the SAS program. Results: Children in the education group showed increased oral health knowledge and behavior over time compared to the control group and an improvement in oral hygiene status including significantly decreased S-PHP and Snyder test for oral micro-organism. Conclusion: Results indicate that oral health education is effective in improving oral health knowledge, oral health behavior and oral hygiene status. These improvements could lead to a better quality of life for North Korean children defectors.

A Study on Dental Hygiene and Career Maturity of Students Based on Alderfer's ERG Theory

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of department satisfaction and career maturity on the perceived health status, relationship, and self-efficacy of dental hygiene college students based on Alderfer's existence-relationship-growth theory. Methods: We obtained convenience samples of dental hygiene students in Daejeon and Chungnam areas; 241 questionnaires were collected from 250 persons considering the dropout rate and used for the final analysis except for 9 careless responses. The differences in perceived health status, relationship, self-efficacy, department satisfaction, and career maturity according to general characteristics were analyzed using a t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Moreover, structural equation modeling was performed to confirm the variables. GFI, AGFI,CFI, RMR, RMSEA, TLI, and NFI indices were calculated to verify the fitness of the path model. Results: There were significant differences in self-efficacy, department satisfaction, career maturity according to grade, and significant differences in academic performance for all variables except relationship. The school system also had a significant effect on department satisfaction. Perceived health status, relationship, self-efficacy, department satisfaction, and career maturity demonstrated statistically significant positive correlations (p<0.05). The factors affecting department satisfaction were relationship and self-efficacy. The indirect and total effects of perceived health status and relationship on career maturity were not statistically significant; however, the indirect and total effects of self-efficacy on career maturity were statistically significant. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop teaching methods according to student management plans for dental hygiene by comprehensively perceived health status, relationship, and self-efficacy affecting department satisfaction and career maturity.

노인의 주관적 구강건강상태가 사회적 효능감에 미치는 영향 (Subjective Oral Health Status of the Elderly and Social Impact Efficacy)

  • The study of the elderly and poor oral status interpersonal relationships and smooth social life limited to give is the social alienation and isolation, promoting to having problems with a sense of the elderly subjective oral health status and social efficacy affects whether analyzed. 1. Subjective oral health status authoring feel healthy food disorders, toothache, periodontal problems, tmj pain, dry mouth, bad breath symptoms such as 'sometimes' 'often' than a 'no' if you appear to be a highly subjective and social efficacy Efficacy of oral health status and social influence were more (p<0.01). 2. Subjective oral health status of the seven kinds of sub-variable that oral health status, food authoring disorders, toothache, gum disease, jaw joint or more, dry mouth, bad breath instantly and look at the relationship between social efficacy oral health status, ability of mastication, pain in oral, gum disease, tmj pain, dry mouth, presence of halitosis than positive (+) was correlated.
