Based on the activated sludge model(ASM), a mathematical model which represents the aerobic sludge digestion by sequencing batch reactor(SBR) combined with ultrasonic treatment was composed and performed in this study. Aerobic digestion using sequencing batch reactor(SBR) equipped with ultrasound treatment was also experimented for the purpose of parameter calibration. Most of the presented kinetic parameters in ASM or ASM2 could be used for the aerobic digestion of sludge but the parameters related in hydrolysis and decay rate needed modification. Hydrolysis rate constant of organic matter in aerobic condition was estimated at $0.3day^{-1}$ and the maximum growth rate for autotrophs in aerobic condition was $0.618day^{-1}$. Solubilization reactions of particulate organics and nitrogen by ultrasonication was added in this kinetic model. The solubilization rate is considered to be proportional to the specific energy which is defined by specific ultrasound power and sonication time. The solubilization rate constant by ultrasonication was estimated at $0.202(W/L)^{-1}day^{-1}$ in this study. Autotrophs as well as heterotrophs also decomposed by ultrasonic treatment and the nitrification reaction was limited by the lack of autotrophs accumulation in the digester.
Colloidal coating solution was prepared to enhance the hydrophilic property of the film surface. Water and ethanol were used as the dispersion media and (glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GPS) as a binder in the colloidal silica coatings. Ethylene diamine was added to the colloidal silica solution as the curing agent. The colloidal silica solution was regarded as a hard-sphere suspension model with low volume fraction of the silica particles. Rheological properties of the silica suspensions modified with GPS have been investigated as a function of pH and concentration. The acidic solution showed high viscosity change by fast hydrolysis reaction and adsorption of the organic binders on the surface of silica particles. However, the hydrolysis was slow at the basic condition and the binders combined with themselves by condensation. The viscosity change was smallest at pH 7. The viscosity increased with the curing time after adding ethylenediamine, and the increase of viscosity at low pH was higher than that at high pH. The hydrophilic properties of the coating film were investigated by the contact angle of water and film surface. The smallest contact angle was shown under the strong acidic condition of pH 2.
Amorphous cobalt phosphates were synthesized with their distinct morphology by controlling the amount of base in the synthetic condition. The crystallinity and morphology of cobalt phosphates were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The prepared cobalt phosphates were applied as a heterogeneous catalyst for generating hydrogen gas from the hydrolysis reaction of sodium borohydride. We found that the catalyst prepared using the least amount of base condition at room temperature showed a plate shape with less than 10 nm thickness, which resulted in the best catalytic activity among all catalysts due to the large surface area.
Among the samples prepared by various pre-treatment methods, the one pretreated by dilute sulfuric acid showed the highest glucose yield in the enzymatic hydrolysis. Statistical analysis of enzymatic hydrolysis revealed that the glucose yield was in proportion to the enzyme dosage, the ratio of the pre-treated sample to the buffer solution, and the reaction time and that the effect of enzyme dosage was predominant in the experiment range. In addition, the glucose yield was estimated to be 76.1% at an optimal enzymatic hydrolysis condition. In a separate hydrolysis and fermentation (SHF), Saccharomyces cerevisiae converted over 80% of glucose from the enzymatic hydrolysis of pre-treated wasted corn stalk by dilute sulfuric acid to bioethanol with 37% of ethanol yield and 0.42 $g/L{\cdot}hr$ of productivity. In the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF), 59.5% of conversion from glucan to ethanol and 0.20 $g/L{\cdot}hr$ of productivity were achieved. In both SHF and SSF, approximately 88 g of bioethanol could be obtained from 1 kg of wasted corn stalk. The possible amount of bioethanol in Gangwon province were estimated to be 1.9 kiloton with the assumption of the 50% of collection ratio.
The properties of mung bean were investigated depending on hydrolysis condition. The results showed that enzyme treatments (${\alpha}$-amylase and protease each at 0.1% (w/w)) by varying hydrolysis temperature showed better properties than non-pretense treatment (control group). The treatment with 0.08% ${\alpha}$-amylase was best for optimum hydrolysis of mung bean starch The treatment using a mixture of 0.08% (w/w) ${\alpha}$-amylase and 0.12% (w/w) protease was best for optimum hydrolysis of meg bean protein. The effects of Hydrolysis time of mung bean showed that the optimum time was 60 and 90 min and there fore the optimum time was set at 60 min. These result showed that the best hydrolysis conditions of mung bean were the treatment at $60^{\circ}C$ for 60 min using a mixture of 0.08%(w/w) ${\alpha}$-amylase and 0.12% (w/w) pretense, with the sugar level shown at $5.8^{\circ}Brix$, reducing sugar at 2,022.13 mg% and crude protein at 7,666.17 mg%.
The present study was peformed to determine the hydrolysis rate constants and degradation products of phosphamidon and proffnofos by the OECD method. Hydrolysis rate constants of phosphamidon in pH 4, pH 7, and pH 9 buffer solutions at 25 and 40$^{\circ}$C were 0.0020, 0.0022, 0.0049 and 0.0040, 0.0050, 0.0150, respectively. Hydrolysis rate of phosphamidon was accelerated by temprerature change under same pH conditions, and half-life of phosphamidon in pH 9 at 40。C was 3 times faster than that at 25。C. Hydrolysis rate of phosphamidon in alkaline solution(pH 9) was 2~4 times faster than that in acidic solution(pH 4) and neutral solution(pH 7) under same temperature. Hydrolysis rate constants of profenofos in pH 4, pH 7, and pH 9 buffer solutions at 25 and 40。C were 0.0022, 0.0047, 0.0860 and 0.0035, 0.0086, 0.1245, respectively. Hydrolysis rate of profenofos was accelerated by temprerature change under same pH conditions. Hydrolysis rate of profenofos in alkaline solution(pH 9) was 15~40 times faster than in acidic solution(pH 4) and neutral solution(pH 7) under same temperature condition, and half-life of profenofos was very fast within 8 hours. The hydrolysis rate of profenofos was faster than that of phosphamidon. In order to identify hydrolysis products, the extracts of degradation products were analyzed by GC/MS. The mass spectra of hydrolysis products of phosphamidon were at m/z 153 and 149, those of the profenofos were at m/z 208 and 240, respectively. The hydrolysis products of phosphamidon were O, O-dimethyl phosphate(DMP) and N, N-diethylchloroacetamide, and those of profenofos were 4-bromo-2-chlorophenol and O-ethyl-S-propyl phosphate.
This work is focused on the possibility of marine biomass Codium fragile as renewable resources for production of levulinic acid. In an effort to optimize the reaction conditions of levulinic acid production from Codium fragile, response surface methodology was applied. A total of 18 individual experiments were designed to investigate the effect of reaction temperature, catalyst amount, and reaction time. As a result, 4.26 g/L levulinic acid from Codium fragile was produced in the condition of $160.7^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature, 3.9% of sulfuric acid, and 39.1 min of reaction time. This result will provide the useful information for chemical production from marine resource.
Amino acid composition of proteins in Italian millet, Common millet and sorghum were invstigated by HCI hydrolysis method. The optimum condition was obtained by hydrolysis at 110$\^{C}$ for 24hr. As major amino acids from protein hydrolyzate, the content of tyosine, arginine and phebylalanine were 7.06%, 6.79% and 6.44%, respectively. The content of glutamic acid in Common millet, Italian millet and Sorghum were 5.73%, 5.64% and 5.46%, respectively. Glycine content was about 2.93% in three samples. Contents of crude protein and pure protein in Italian millet, Common millet and sorghum were determined by micro-kjeldahl method. Crude protein contents were slightly higher than that of pure protein. Protein content of sorghum was higher than those of Italian millet and Common millet. For SDS-PAGE analysis, Italian millet showed more soluble proteins including 50kDa, 30kDa and smaller proteins than other cereals. In particular, Common millet and Sorghum only solubilized proteins less than 15kDa.
In this study, synthesis condition of $TiO_2$ thin films which have optimal dielectric characteristics using sol-gel method was determined. Thin films were fabricated using sol which have optimal characteristics and their permittivity was measured. In case of the amount of water for hydrolysis smaller than that for stoichiometry, sol formed clear sol which have normal chain structure. On the contrary, in case of the amount of water for hydrolysis larger than that for stoichiometry, sol formed suspended sol which have cluster structure. The permittivity of thin films increased exponentially around $^{\circ}C$.
Graphite powders were coated with ZrO₂ by the controlled hydrolysis of a DI water, ethanol and DI water+ethanol solutions. The hydrolysis process was carried out with temperature control because of the low wettability of Zr ions to the surface of the graphite. PVA was added to the solution for the enhancement of metal ion adsorption. The surface of the graphite powders coated with ZrO₂ was observed by SEM and TEM. There are two types of ZrO₂ particles with the condition of ZrOCl₂°§8H₂O aqueous solutions were used; (a) primary particles a few nm in size and (b) secondary particles with ∼0.1 ㎛ size were obtained. The graphite powders coated in 50% ethanol-50% DI water solution of Zr(SO₄)₂ㆍ4H₂O have the relatively uniform coating layer and the starting temperature of oxidation was 100℃ higher than the raw graphite.
