In this study, the multi-objective optimization method is attemped to optimize the hydrological model to estimate the runoff through two hydrological processes. HL-RDHM, a distributed hydrological model that can simultaneously estimate the amount of snowfall and runoff, was used as the distributed hydrological model. The Durango River basin in Colorado, USA, was selected as the watershed. MOSCEM was used as a multi-objective optimization method and parameter calibration and hydrologic model optimization were tried by selecting 5 parameters related to snow melting and 13 parameters related to runoff. Data from 2004 to 2005 were used to optimize the model and verified using data from 2001 to 2004. By optimizing both the amount of snow and the amount of runoff, the RMSE error can be reduced from 7% to 40% of the simulation value based on the initial solution at three SNOTEL points based on the RMSE. The USGS observation point of the outflow is improved about 40%.
In this study, the hydrological properties of permeable pavement were analyzed by the experiment and the numerical simulation. The numerical model used was a modified SWMM especially for considering the hydrological response of permeable pavement. The parameters of modified SWMM were revised by the experimental results, and then the practicability was evaluated through the comparison of the experimental and numerical simulation results. In the experiments, three different rainfall intensities such as 65 mm/hr, 90 mm/hr, 95 mm/hr were supplied for 4 hrs, and the hydraulic properties including surface outflow, subsurface outflow, ground water level, soil water contents were measured for 10 hrs. The results showed rainfall intensity effected directly on surface outflow volume and subsurface outflow volume was more effected by ground water level than rainfall intensity. The ground water level and the soil water contents were under estimated as compared with the experimental data except the portion of occurring direct runoff. The surface and subsurface outflow discharge were simulated very well in comparison with the experimental data. Consequently, the modified SWMM could be used very effectively to evaluate the hydrological property of permeable pavement.

In recent decades, the socio-hydrology community has developed several socio-hydrological frameworks to understand the complexity of the coupled human-water system. Although there have been efforts to relate sociology and hydrology, there still have been some insights that remain debatable. As for this study, the Value-belief-norm theory was used to represent the human behavior in order to connect the human-water system. The theoretical framework of values, beliefs and norms was developed to understand the human culture towards the environment. In addition to the theory, norms are legislation of human behavior in the society while the values are the guiding principle to motivate beliefs and norms. The overview of this study implied on developing a socio-hydrological model consisting of the four systems defined as hydrology, socio-economy, technology and institutional. The interconnectors between the four systems are the key variables and parameters representing a module namely the causal loop diagram. Moreover, water quality, size of population, infrastructure capacity and norms are the key variables to connect the four systems. The developed model will be applied to Han River to represent the coevolutionary of the dynamics of human-water systems.

In this study we aimed to enhance streamflow prediction skill of a land-surface hydrological model, WRF-Hydro, over one of the snow dominated catchments lies in Himalayan mountainous range, Astore. To assess the response of the Himalayan river flows to climate change is complex due to multiple contributors: precipitation, snow, and glacier melt. WRF-Hydro model with default glacier module lacks generating streamflow in summer period but recently developed WRF-Hydro-CROCUS model overcomes this issue by melting snow/ice from the glaciers. We showed that by implementing WRF-Hydro-CROCUS model over Astore the results were significantly improved in comparison to WRF-Hydro with default glacier module. To constraint the model with the observed streamflow we chose 17 sensitive parameters of WRF-Hydro, which include groundwater parameters, surface runoff parameters, channel parameters, soil parameters, vegetation parameters and snowmelt parameters. We used Dynamically Dimensioned Search (DDS) method to calibrate the daily streamflow with the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) being greater than 0.7 both in calibration (2009-2010) and validation (2011-2013) period. Based on the number of iterations per parameter, we found that the parameters related to channel and runoff process are most sensitive to streamflow. The attempts to address the responses of the streamflows to climate change are still very weak and vague especially northwest Himalayan Part of Pakistan and this study is one of a few successful applications of process-based land-surface hydrologic model over this mountainous region of UIB that can be utilized to have an in-depth understanding of hydrological responses of climate change.
Recently, GIS softwares such as WMS, ArcHydro, and HyGIS which can calculate hydrological geographic parameters are popularized. These softwares have the functions to calculate various geographic parameters which are used in water resources from DEM (Digital Elevation Model). In this study, hydrological geographic parameters calculated by WMS and ArcHydro are compared and examined with them from HyGIS to evaluate the applicability of the parameters from HyGIS. Bochungcheon (Riv.), Wicheon (Riv.), Pyungchanggang (Riv.), Gyungancheon (Riv.), Naerincheon (Riv.), and Imjingang (Riv.) watersheds are selected for this study, and the shape of watershed, watershed area, watershed slope, the average slope of watershed, main stream length, main stream slope, maximum flow distance, and the slope of maximum flow distance are calculated to compare and examine the characteristics. Study results show that the average relative error of 7 geographic parameters from all the watersheds is 4.77 %, and all the watershed boundaries are very similar. So, all the geographic parameters calculated by each software show very similar value, and the geographic parameters calculated by HyGIS can be applied to water resources with WMS and ArcHydro which have been generally used.
We investigated the longitudinal variations in zooplankton abundances and their related physicochemical properties at nine stations located between $136^{\circ}W$ and $128^{\circ}W$ at $10.5^{\circ}N$ in the northeastern Pacific in summer 2004. Temperature, salinity, inorganic nutrients, chlorophyll-a (hereafter chl-a) and zooplankton ($>200\;{\mu}m$) were sampled within the depth from the surface to 200 m depth at $1^{\circ}$ longitude intervals. Zooplankton($>200\;{\mu}m$) samples were vertically collected at two depth intervals from surface to 200 m, consisting of surface mixed and lower layers (thermocline$\sim$200 m). Longitudinal distributional pattern of hydrological parameters (especially salinity) was physically influenced by the intensity of westward geostrophic current passage relating to the NEC (North Equatorial Current). Data from the longitudinal survey showed clear zonal distributions in the hydrological parameters(temperature, salinity and nutrients). However, spatial patterns of the chl-a concentrations and zooplankton abundances were mostly independent of the zonal distributions of hydrological parameters. The two peaks of zooplankton abundance in the surface mixed layer were characterized by different controlling factors such as bottom-up control from nutrients to zooplankton ($129^{\circ}W$) and accumulation by increment of friction force and taxonomic interrelationship ($133^{\circ}$ and $134^{\circ}W$). Divergence-related upwelling caused introduction of nutrients into surface waters leading to the increment of chl-a concentration and zooplankton abundances ($129^{\circ}W$). Increased friction force in relation to reduced flow rates of geostrophic currents caused accumulation of zooplankton drifting from eastern stations of study area($133^{\circ}$ and $134^{\circ}W$). Besides, high correlation between immature copepods and carnivorous groups such as chaetognaths and cyclopoids also possibly contributed to the enhanced total abundance of zooplankton in the surface mixed layer (p<0.05). Zooplankton community was divided into three groups (A, B, C) which consecutively included the eastern peak of zooplankton($129^{\circ}W$), the western peak($133^{\circ}$ and $134^{\circ}W$) and high nutrient but low chl-a concentration and zooplankton abundance ($136^{\circ}W$). Moreover, Group B corresponded to the westward movement of low saline waters(<33.6 psu) from 128 to $132^{\circ}W$. In summary, longitudinal distributions of zooplankton community was characterized by three different controlling factors: bottom-up control ($129^{\circ}W$), accumulation by increased friction force and relationships among zooplankton groups ($133^{\circ}$ and $134^{\circ}W$), and mismatch between hydrological parameters and zooplankton in the high nutrient low chlorophyll area ($136^{\circ}W$) during the study period.

Hydrologic Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) coupled with PEST which is optimization program was calibrated and validated at Bochung watershed by using monitoring data of water quantities and nutrient loading. Although the calibrated data were limited, model parameters of each land use type were optimized and coefficient of determinations were ranged from 0.94 to 0.99 for runoff, from 0.89 to 1.00 for TN loading, and from 0.92 to 1.00 for TP loading. The optimized hydrological parameters indicated that the forested land could retain rainfall within soil layer with high soil layer depth and infiltration rate compared with other land use type. Hydrological characteristics of paddy rice field are low infiltration rate and coefficient of roughness. The calibrated parameters related to nutrient loading indicated generation of nutrient pollution from agricultural area including upland and paddy rice field higher than other land use type resulting from fertilizer application. Overall PEST program is useful tool to calibrate HSPF automatically without consuming time and efforts.

Despite the close linkage in changes between the ecological and hydrological processes in forest ecosystems, an integrative approach has not been incorporated successfully. In this study, based on the vegetation and hydrologic data of the Gwangneung headwater catchment with the Geographic Information System, we attempted such an integrated approach by employing the Regional Hydro-Ecologic Simulation System (RHESSys). To accomplish this, we have (1) constructed the input data for RHESSys, (2) developed an integrated calibration system that enables to consider both ecological and hydrological processes simultaneously, and (3) performed sensitivity analysis to estimate the optimum parameters. Our sensitivity analyses on six soil parameters that affect streamflow patterns and peak flow show that the decay parameter of horizontal saturated hydraulic conductivity $(s_1)$ and porosity decay by depth (PD) had the highest sensitivity. The optimization of these two parameters to estimate the optimum streamflow variation resulted in a prediction accuracy of 0.75 in terms of Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSec). These results provide an important basis for future evaluation and mapping of the watershed-scale soil moisture and evapotranspiration in forest ecosystems of Korea.
Changes of meteorology, hydrological mechanism and discharge phenomena by the regional development have caused many technical, social and economical problems. Therefore, the regional development neglecting such changing parameters can provide considerable

The effects of the temporal scale of input hydrological data on runoff simulation have been studied using hydrological data with various time scales. TOPMODEL has been employed to explores these effects. The Genetic a1gorithm was used to calibrate model Parameters. The results of sensitivity analysis in various time scales provide the insight of parameter space for TOPMODEL operation of different time scale. The variation of temporal scale of input hydrological data appeared to have significant impacts on the model efficiency, average water table depth, the ratio of the surface runoff to the total runoff and the calibrated parameters. Generally, the longer the time scale, the more surface runoff and the less average water table death were calculated. It is found that the impact of lime scale to runoff simulation results from the structure of TOPMODEL and the hydrographic morphology.
