Behavior characteristics of hydrogen and its isotope in molten salt of LiF-NaF-KF (FLiNaK)

  • Experimental studies to investigate the behaviors of hydrogen in molten FLiNaK (LiF-NaF-KF) have been conducted at $500-700^{\circ}C$. On the basis of previous studies, the diffusivity and solubility of hydrogen in FLiNaK have been revised, and the expressions can be correlated to the following Arrhenius equations: $D_{H2}=1.62{\times}10^{-5}{\exp}(-48.20{\times}10^3/Rg{\cdot}T) m^2/s]$ and $S_{H2}=1.03{\times}10^{-4}{\exp}(-14.96{\times}10^3/Rg{\cdot}T) [mol-H_2/m^3/Pa]$, respectively. The behavior characteristics of deuterium in FLiNaK were studied and compared with the hydrogen behaviors in FLiNaK. The results showed the behaviors of deuterium were consistence with the behaviors of hydrogen in FLiNaK. The difference between hydrogen and deuterium has not been observed upon the experimental research of the behavior characteristics of hydrogen and deuterium in FLiNaK, which suggested the results obtained here might apply equally to the behavior characteristics of tritium in FLiNaK.

Pd/Al2O3, Pd/Ag/Al2O3 분리막의 제조와 수소 투과 성능 평가 (Preparation of Pd/Al2O3, Pd/Ag/Al2O3 Membranes and Evaluation of Hydrogen Permeation Performance)

  • 본 실험에서는 α-Al2O3 세라믹 중공사를 지지체로 사용하였고, 무전해 도금을 통해 Pd 및 Pd-Ag가 도금된 수소 분리막을 제조하였다. Pd-Ag 분리막은 Pd와 Ag 합금 형태로 만들기 위하여 500℃, 10 h 동안의 annealing 과정을 거쳤으며, EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) 분석을 통해 Pd-Ag 합금이 되었다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) 분석을 통해 제조된 Pd 및 Pd-Ag 도금층의 두께는 약 8.98, 9.29 ㎛으로 측정되었다. 제조된 수소 분리막은 350~450℃, 1-4 bar의 범위에서 수소 단일 가스, 혼합가스(H2, N2)를 이용하여 수소 투과 실험을 진행하였다. 수소 단일 가스에서 Pd와 Pd-Ag 분리막은 최대 각각 21.85, 13.76 mL/cm2·min의 flux를 가지며, 혼합가스에서는 450℃, 4 bar의 조건일 때, 1216, 361의 separation factor가 각각 나오는 것을 확인하였다.

팔라듐 합금 수소 분리막의 전처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Surface Pre-treatment of Palladium Alloy Hydrogen Membrane)

  • A Pd-based hydrogen membranes for hydrogen purification and separation need high hydrogen perm-selectivity. The surface roughness of the support is important to coat the pinholes free and thin-film membrane over it. Also, The pinholes drastically decreased the hydrogen perm-selectivity of the Pd-based composite membrane. In order to remove the pinholes, we introduced various surface pre-treatment such as alumina powder packing, nickel electro-plating and micro-polishing pre-treatment. Especially, the micro-polishing pretreatment was very effective in roughness leveling off the surface of the porous nickel support, and it almost completely plugged the pores. Fine Ni particles filled surface pinholes with could form open structure at the interface of Pd alloy coating and Ni support by their diffusion to the membrane and resintering. In this study, a $4{\mu}m$ surface pore-free Pd-Cu-Ni ternary alloy membrane on a porous nickel substrate was successfully prepared by micro-polishing, high temperature sputtering and Cu-reflow process. And $H_2$ permeation and $N_2$ leak tests showed that the Pd-Cu-Ni ternary alloy hydrogen membrane achieved both high permeability of $13.2ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}min^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}$ permation flux and infinite selectivity.

고분자전해질연료전지에서 수소투과도 측정법의 비교 (Comparison of Measurement Method of Hydrogen Permeability in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell)

  • 고분자전해질 연료전지(PEMFC)의 고분자막 내구성을 평가하는데 수소투과도가 많이 사용되고 있다. 수소투과도를 쉽게 측정하는 방법으로 선형 주사 전압 측정법(Linear Sweep Voltammetry, LSV)이 주로 사용된다. 연구자마다 LSV 측정 방법에 차이가 있어 연구 결과를 비교하기가 어려울 때가 많다. 그래서 본 연구에서는 측정하기 어렵지만 정확한 값이라고 할 수 있는 기체 크로마토그래프에 의한 수소투과도와 DOE와 NEDO의 LSV 방법을 비교하여 정확성을 확인하고자 하였다. 온도와 상대습도를 변화시키며 수소투과도를 측정해 비교했을 때, DOE LSV 방법이 GC 방법과 비교해 오차 범위 5%이하의 정확성을 보였다. NEDO LSV 방법은 DOE방법과 같이 0.3V의 전류 값으로 수소투과전류밀도를 결정했을 때 오차는 감소하였다.

연료전지용 불소화 폴리벤즈이미다졸 양성자 교환 멤브레인 합성 및 특성평가 (Synthesis and Characterization of Fluorinated Polybenzimidazole Proton Exchange Membranes for Fuel Cell)

  • A fluorinated polybenzimidazole (FPBI) was synthesized from 3,3-diaminobenzidine (DAB) of tetraamine, 2,2-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane of aromatic biscarboxylic acid, and 4,4-sulfonyldibenzoic acid of aromatic biscarboxylic acid in polyphosphoric acid (PPA). A FPBI was easily cast and made into clear films. The structure of condensation polymers and corresponding membranes were analyzed using GPC (gel permeation chromatography), $^1H$-NMR ($^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance) and FT-IR (fourier transform infrared). TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) analysis showed that the prepared membranes were thermally stable, so that elevated temperature fuel cell operation would be possible. The proton conductivity of the FPBI membranes increased with increasing temperatures in the polymer. A FPBI membrane has a maximum ion conductivity of 45 mS/cm at $90^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity.

  • Recently, fuel cell field is receiving much attention as an environmentally friendly energy in the world. Among the various types of fuel cells, in the case of PEMFC, ions move through the membrane in the middle of the unit cell. Therefore, proper moisture is required inside the PEMFC. In the case of membrane type humidifier, flat membrane or hollow fiber membrane is mainly used. Since various parameters can change the performance, the performance investigation has to be carried out with parameters. In this study, water transport of hollow fiber membrane was investigated in terms of principle operating conditions such as temperature and flow rate.

  • It is generally recognized that thin Pd-Cu alloy films fabricated by sputtering show a wide range of microstructures and properties, both of which are highly dependent on the sputtering conditions. In view of this, the present study aims to investigate the relationship between the performance of hydrogen separation membranes and the microstructure of Pd alloy films depending on sputtering deposition conditions such as substrate temperature, working pressure, and DC power. We fabricated thin and dense Pd-Cu alloy membranes by the micro-polishing of porous Ni support, an advanced Pd-Cu sputtered multi-deposition under the conditions of high substrate temperature / low working pressure / high DC power, and a followed by Cu-reflow heat-treatment. The result of a hydrogen permeation test indicated that the selectivity for $H_2/N_2$ was infinite because of the void-free and dense surface of the Pd alloy membranes, and the hydrogen permeability was 10.5 $ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}min^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}$ for a 6 ${\mu}m$ membrane thickness.

과산화수소 농축을 위한 투과증발공정 모델링 (Modeling of a Pervaporation Process for Concentrating Hydrogen Peroxide)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 과산화수소 농축을 위한 투과증발공정의 수학적 모델을 제시하는 것이다. 대상공정은 NASA에서 개발한 것으로 쉘과 멤브레인 튜브들로 구성되어 있다. 쉘과 튜브에는 각각 과산화수소용액과 sweep gas가 향류로 흐른다. 이때 막을 통해 투과증발되는 기체에는 과산화수소보다 물분자가 더 많기 때문에 과산화수소를 농축할 수 있다. 이 공정의 수학적 모델은 투과물의 흡수-확산 메커니즘에 기초한 비선형 편미분 및 대수 방정식, 투과물 플럭스의 온도 의존성에 대한 아레니우스 관계, 그리고 막 모듈 내의 액상 농도와 흐름에 대한 질량 및 운동량 수지식의 형태로 개발하였다. 과산화수소 농축물 농도의 동적 거동은 제안된 모델의 단순화된 형태를 풀어 모사하였고 그 결과값을 NASA 특허에서 보고된 실험자료와 비교하였다.

  • $(Ba(Zr_{0.85}Y_{0.15})O_{3-\delta})$ oxide, showing high protonic conductivity at high temperatures and good chemical stability with $CO_2$ are referred to as hydrogen separation membrane. For high efficiency of hydrogen separation ($H_2$ flux and selectivity) and low fabrication cost, ultimate thin and dense BZY-Ni layer has to be coated on a porous substrate such as $ZrO_2$. Aerosol depostion (AD) process is a novel technique to grow ceramic film with high density and nano-crystal structure at room-temperature, and may be applicable to the fabrication process of AD integration ceramic layer effectively. XRD, SEM, X-ray mapping measurements were conducted in order to analyze the characteristics of BZY-Ni membrane fabricated by AD process. it is observed that it is homogeneous distribution for BZY-Ni. The result of $H_2$ permeation rate suggests that BZY-Ni composite is higher than BZY.
