Study for the Operational Characteristics of Closed Circuit Hydraulic System of Turnover-Type Sluice Gate (전도 수문용 폐회로형 유압장치의 작동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The turnover-type sluice gate is typically actuated by the open circuit hydrauic system since the single-rod cylinder is used rather than the double-rod cylinder. However, here the closed circuit hydrauic system is applied for the operation of turnover-type sluice gate for the purpose of convenient operation. The closed circuit hydraulic system of turnover-type sluice gate is composed of a bi-directional pump, single-rod cylinders, pilot operated check valves, check valves and a counter balance valve. The usefulness of the closed circuit hydraulic system is verified for the several operational conditions by the computer simulations.

  • Arm-type implements of tractor are mainly utilized for the slope land operation. The proposed hydraulic system was implemented to arm-type implements of tractor. An experiment was conducted to evaluate response characteristics of the designed arm-type implement control system attached by three-point hitch of tractor at various conditions, such as engine speed, pumping rate and cylinder input flow. Effects of the valve response time didn't affect engine speed. The flow rate of pump and cylinder changed to the pressure loss. Also, the pressure loss was within 2 MPa and the response characteristic was sufficient enough to use as the arm-type implement system.

The bending-shear-torsion performance of prestressed composite box beam

  • To study the mechanical performances of prestressed steel-concrete composite box beam under combination of bending-shear-torsion, nine composite beams with different ratio of torsion to bending were designed. Torsion was applied to the free end of the beam with jacks controlled accurately with peripherals, as well as concentrated force on the mid-span with jacks. Based on experimental data and relative theories, mechanical properties of composite beams were analyzed, including torsional angle, deformation and failure patterns. The results showed that under certain ratio of torsion to bending, cracking and ultimate torsion increased and reached to its maximum at the ratio of 2. Three phases of process is also discussed, as well as the conditions of each failure mode.

  • Pump which is the fundamental device in the hydraulic system affects on overall system performance to a great deal. Such problems as leakage and solid friction loss become important in field applications, especially for the case of operation under high pressure and at high speed. So the research on this kind of subjects is necessary to improve the performance of hydraulic devices. A high pressure radial piston pump is analyzed here, which has a stationary cylinder block. It pumps hydraulic fluid by letting camring push a piston in a cylinder. Fluid leaks between the piston and cylinder so that it deteriorates the pump efficiency. Furthermore, the piston happens to touch the cylinder wall to increase the friction loss and wear. In this research, by means of FDA, volumetric, mechanical and overall efficiencies are observed by varying several design parameters and operation conditions. Design values or their trends are presented to improve these effciencies.

  • In this study, we developed full automation test system for pressure vessel. This pressure vessel containing oxygen, nitrogen and carbon is widely used in industrial field. The test items of pressure vessel are divided into three branches which is weight measurement, water-hydraulic, and leakage test. After leakage test is completed, cleaning and dry progress is carried out. And control system is consist of three controller which is PLC, monitoring system and database system. PLC is control all of system. Monitoring system measures weight, pressure, flow etc and display to all conditions. Database system stores tested data. we design system to control all test modules in communication by a second period with three control modules. Finally, we verified this system by field test.

A Study on the Performance Analysis of Francis Hydraulic Turbine

  • The effects of varying the inlet flow angle on the output power of a Francis hydraulic turbine were studied numerically and the result was compared to the experimental results conducted at Korea Institute of Energy Research to determine the brake power of the turbine for each set of operating conditions. The loss of mechanical power of the model turbine was determined by comparing the numerical and experimental results, and thus the turbine efficiency or energy conversion efficiency of the model turbine could be estimated. From the result, it was found that the maximum brake efficiency of the turbine is approximately 46% at an induced angle of 35 degrees. The maximum indicated mechanical efficiency of the turbine is approximately 93% at an induced angle of 25~30 degrees.

  • The Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) can be classified into three types by the type of the transmission. One of those is a Diesel Hydraulic Multiple Unit which is operated with a hydraulic transmission and its propulsion system consists of a diesel engine, transmission, cooling unit, fuel system, intake air and exhaust system, etc. In designing and integrating the propulsion system components, the operation and environment conditions should be considered as well as related standards. This paper describes points to be considered on design with related to propulsion system of Diesel Hydraulic Multiple Unit that is now being developed for Turkish Republic State Railway -TCDD.

  • An adaptive controller which is robust to the unknown load disturbance is developed for electro-hydraulic speed control systems. Since the load disturbance degrades the performance of the controller such as a steady state error and rise time in the conventional control system, appropriate adjustment of the controller is necessary in order to obtain the desired performances. The adaptation mechanism was designed to tune the feedforward gain, based upon minimization of ITAE (integral of time-multiplied absolute error) performance. The unknown load distrubance was identified by using an analog computer from the relationship between the velocity of the hydraulic motor and the load pressure. To evaluate the performance of the controller a series of simulations and experiments were conducted for various load conditions. Both results show that the proposed adaptive controller shows abetter performance than the conventional controller in terms of the steady state error and rise time.

  • Subsurface biobarrier technology has potential applications to contain contaminated groundwater and/or to degrade toxic pollutants in groundwater. Most biobarrier studies were conducted under aerobic condition, however there were several obstacles to make aerobic condition. Thus, In this study, we examined biobarrier formation under denitrifying condition by using nitrate as an electron acceptor. Experiments were performed with a sand column inoculated with activated sludge from the nearby WWTP. The substrate medium was pumped to the sand column in an upflow mode. During the low substrate loading rate period, the extent of reduction rate in hydraulic conductivity was found similar throughout the column, and permeability became relatively stable after couple of days. However, during the high substrate loading rate period, the column demonstrated a gradient of permeability reduction, with the greatest reduction in sections nearest the column inlet. Rapid growth of microorganisms near the column inlet resulted in the unbalanced reduction of hydraulic conductivity throughout the sand column. As a result, at this denitrifying condition the thickness of biobarrier could be controlled by adjusting the medium conditions of microbial growth.

  • It has recently shown that a solenoid valve can be utilized in a hydraulic position-control system by discontinuous control methods. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of solenoid valves on the response characteristics of a hydraulic position-control system by applying two kinds of discontinued control methods i.e., Simple On-Off (SOF) and Pusating On-Off(POF) controls. Three types of solenoid valves i.e. low-frequency, closed-center type (LF/C), high-frequency, closed-center type (HF/C), low-frequency, tandem-center type(LF/T) were used in this study. Effects of loading conditions and control parameters on the response characteristics were experimentally examined and compared each other. Pressure transients within the actuator were also studied.
