A Silkworm breeding programme was designed to develop a robust but productive bivoltine silkworm hybrid of Bombyx mori L. suitable for rearing throughout the year in tropical climate by utilizing indigenous polyvoltine and productive bivoltine breeds. The breeding was carried out under high temperature ($36^{\circ}C{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) and low humidity ($50{\pm}5%$) conditions in the environmental chamber. By $F_{12}$, three oval and three dumbbell breeds were isolated with higher survival and productive merits. These breeds were utilized in the hybrid evaluation along with other popular breeds. Based on combining ability test results, the hybrid $SR_2{\times}SR_5$ was selected for large scale testing and evaluated in different seasons. The evaluation studies indicated that the hybrid has higher viability and productive merits and it is suitable to rear throughout the year. The hybrid $SR_2{\times}SR_5$ recorded a survival of 92.0%, cocoon shell weight of 0.417 g, cocoon shell percentage of 23.0 and a filament length of 1042 meters under hot and dry conditions of environmental chamber compared to the control thermo-tolerant hybrid $CSR18{\times}CSR19$.

Construction system modeling can enhance work performance by following the behaviors of a system. System behaviors may originate from physical aspects of a system, namely operation level variables, or from non-physical aspects of a system known as context level variables. However, construction system modelers usually focus on only one type of system variable (i.e., operation level or context level) which can lead to less accurate results. Hybrid modeling with System Dynamics (SD) and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) is one of the approaches that has been utilized to address this issue. In this research, an SD-DES hybrid model of a steel fabrication shop is developed, and the benefits of capturing context level variables together with operation level variables in the model are discussed.

This article proposes a hybrid approach involved in determining the size of stormwater control facilities as part of a very large scale urban retrofit project. The objective of the proposed hybrid approach is to restore the pre-development hydrologic cycle. Firstly, an appropriate IETD is determined to isolate single storm events from the continuous rainfall record. Then, using the NRCS-CN method, direct runoff and infiltration volume are computed for every storm events. Long-term statistics of direct runoff and infiltration volume are analyzed in each case of pre-development, post development, post development with detention only, and post-development with the proposed hybrid approach. In order to preserve long-term statistics of direct runoff and infiltration volume in the case of pre-development, the size of detention and infiltration-based retention are estimated using the genetic algorithm. The result shows that the proposed hybrid approach is very useful for restoring statistics of natural direct runoff and infiltration volume.
A total of CNU 28 hybrids were developed at the CNU Corn Breeding Lab. were evaluated to identify new cultivars in botanical characteristics, fresh yield per 10a and taste qualities. Most of these hybrids were stable in environmental stresses such as lodging, disease and insects. Stem height ranged from 115.0 to 239.3 cm, and ear height ranged from 30.7 to 107.0 cm. The ear height to stem height ratio was showed low than 50% of standard as a stable plant type to lodging. The range of ear length was 14.2 cm to 23.0 cm. Especially, CNU 13H-73 was very longest ear as a 23 cm. The fresh yield per 10a was high in purple of CNU13H-79 hybrid than control hybrid Miheuckchal, and CNU13H-73 in white hybrid was similar Yeonnong check hybrid. The 100-kernel weights in CNU13H-3 and CNU13H-9 hybrids were higher than that of the control hybrid. CNU13H-98 among hybrids had a 100-kernel weight of 20.32 g, which was heavier than that of the control hybrid Daehackchal Gold 1. The average pericarp thickness was $41.4{\mu}m$, CNU13H-46 among hybrids had a very thin pericarp as a $35.5{\mu}m$. The mean sugar content of the used hybrids was 14.95 brix%; CNU13H-73 and CNU13H-55 had higher than Mibak2 as a control hybrid.
The purpose of this work was to examine whether X-Y chromosome dissociation in the primary spermatocytes of mice could be used as an in vivo short-term assaying system that detect environmental mutagens. Four alkylating agents(EMS, MMS, MMC and MNNG) which were known as strong mutagens were administered to BALB/c male mice 3-4 months old. In the control group, the mean frequencies of previously dissociated X and Y chromosomes and autosomes were 7.17% and 2.12%, respectively. Compared to the control group, mutagen-treated groups have no significant differences in dissociation rate of autosomes, while these poops were about 1.2-2.5 times higher in the frequencies of X-Y dissociation. Generally, X-Y dissociation frequency increased consistently with the concentration of mutagens whereas the tendency of autosome dissociation frequency was variable among several mutagens. These results suggest that X-Y dissociation in the primary spermatocytes of mice is applicable as an vivo short-term assaying system for environmental mutagens. There were significantly distinct increase in dissociation of X-Y chromosome in both the hybrid and parents but the X-Y previous dissociation of hybrid appeared higher frequency than BALB /c and wild mice. These results indicate that the factor related to binding X-Y chromosome is specific to strains.
In this study, nominal moment-axial load interaction diagrams, moment-curvature relationships, and ductility of rectangular hybrid beam-column concrete sections are analyzed using the modified Hognestad concrete model. The hybrid columns are primarily reinforced with steel bars with additional Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) control bars. Parameters investigated include amount, pattern, location, and material properties of concrete, steel, and GFRP. The study was implemented using a user defined comprehensive $MATLAB^{(R)}$ simulation model to find an efficient hybrid section design maximizing strength and ductility. Generating lower bond stresses than steel bars at the concrete interface, auxiliary GFRP bars minimize damage in the concrete core of beam-column sections. Their usage prevents excessive yielding of the core longitudinal bars during frequent moderate cyclic deformations, which leads to significant damage in the foundations of bridges or beam-column spliced sections where repair is difficult and expensive. Analytical results from this study shows that hybrid steel-GFRP composite concrete sections where GFRP is used as auxiliary bars show adequate ductility with a significant increase in strength. Results also compare different design parameters reaching a number of design recommendations for the proposed hybrid section.

The exhaust gas emission from marine diesel engines is one of the major environmental issues. The authors focus the use of photovoltaic energy for the electric power system on marine ships. This paper proposes an operation method of a photovoltaic/diesel hybrid generating system for a small ship in consideration of the fluctuating photovoltaic power due to solar radiation. The aim of the proposed operation method is to minimize the fuel consumption and storage capacity of the battery. The validity of the proposed control method is shown by the numerical simulation based on the experimental data of the photovoltaic system.

Rapid population growth with high living standards and high electronics use for personal comfort has raised the electricity demand exponentially. To fulfill this elevated demand, conventional energy sources are shifting towards low production cost and long term usable alternative energy sources. Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) are becoming popular as stand-alone power systems for providing electricity in remote areas due to advancement in renewable energy technologies and subsequent rise in prices of petroleum products. Wind and solar power are considered feasible replacement to fossil fuels as the prediction of the fuel shortage in the near future, forced all operators involved in energy production to explore this new and clean source of power. Presented paper proposes fuzzy logic based Energy Management System (EMS) for Wind Turbine (WT), Photo Voltaic (PV) and Diesel Generator (DG) hybrid micro-grid configuration. Battery backup system is introduced for worst environmental conditions or high load demands. Dump load along with dump load controller is implemented for over voltage and over speed protection. Fuzzy logic based supervisory control system performs the power flow control between different scenarios such as battery charging, battery backup, dump load activation and DG backup in most intellectual way.

In this paper, we develop a hybrid speaker recognition system [1] enhanced by pre-recognizer and post-recognizer. The pre-recognizer consists of general speech recognition systems and the post-recognizer is a pitch detection system using adapted continuous wavelet transform (ACWT) to improve the performance of the hybrid speaker recognition system. Two schemes to design ACWT is considered. One is the scheme to search basis library covering the whole band of speech fundamental frequency (speech pitch). The other is the scheme to determine which one is the best basis. Information cost functional is used for the criterion for the latter. ACWT is robust enough to classify the pitch of speech very well, even though the speech signal is badly damaged by environmental noises.
