Optimization of Disk Sorptive Extraction Based on Monolithic Material for the Determination of Aroma Compounds from Lantana camara L. by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

  • Present study describes the optimization of disk type sorptive extraction using monolithic material (Mono Trap) for the analysis of volatile aroma compounds from Lantana camara L. in combination with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Monolithic material sorptive extraction (MMSE) is a new sampling technique using a monolithic hybrid adsorptive disk (O.D. 10 mm, 1 mm thickness) made of high purity silica and activated carbon having a large surface area chemically bonded with octadecyl silane (ODS). The experimental parameters that may influence the MMSE efficiency have been optimized. Linearity, accuracy, precision and detection limits were evaluated to assess the performance of the proposed method. The method was validated with real plant samples of Lantana camara L. Twenty eight compounds including the main representative compounds of ${\alpha}$-curcumene and ${\beta}$-caryophyllene were found in analyzed samples. Results proved that proposed method could be used as a good alternative for the analysis for such volatile aroma compounds in plant samples.

  • This paper presents the design of a now controller for the read/write head of a hard disk drive. The general controller for seeking is the time-optimal control. However if we use only the time optimal control law, this could be vulnerable to chattering effect. To solve this problem, we propose a modified controller design algorithm in this paper. The proposed controller consists of bang-bang control for seeking and sliding-mode control for tracking. Moreover, to test the robustness and stability of control system, a bounded disturbance is selected to maximize a severity index. Simulation results show the superiority of the proposed controller through comparison with time optimal VSC(variable structure control).

  • 이 논문에서는 폭넓게 사용되지만 컴퓨터의 메모리 계층 구조상에서 병목지점으로 알려진 하드디스크의 획기적인 성능향상을 위해서 메모리 시스템이 내장된 새로운 형태의 디스크 구조를 제안한다. 제안하는 디스크 구조에서는 디스크에 메모리를 혼용하여 사용함으로써 디스크 응답시간을 크게 줄이고, 입출력을 빠르게 처리할 수 있다. 64MB까지의 디스크 메모리를 탑재한 경우 두 가지 실제 트레이스에 의한 시뮬레이션 결과 20여명이 사용하는 공유 시스템의 작업부하에서는 최대 80% 정도의 히트율을 통하여 최대 1/2, 그리고 개인용 시스템의 경우 초대 85% 가량의 히트율을 통해 1/5 수준으로 응답시간을 단축할 수 있었다. 앞으로 디스크에 단순히 메모리를 추가하는데 그치지않고 데이터 블록의 배치 방법, 데이터 분산 배분 방법, 보관정책, 선인출 방법 등을 이용하면 추가된 디스크 메모리의 효용을 극대화할 수 있다.

  • The parallel database machine approach is currently widely and successfully used. There are four major architectures which are used in this approach: shared-nothing architecture, shared-evertying architecture, shared-disk architecture, and hybrid architecture. In this paper, we use an analytical model to evaluate the performance of these database machine architectures. We define an abstract model for each type of database machine design to obtain performance equatons describing the execution times with respect to the hybrid hash join poeration. Using the performance equations, we evaluate the execution times of the various database machine design models.

  • This study proposes a new conceptual Hybrid Electric Brake System (HEBS) which overcomes the problems of the conventional hydraulic brake system. The HEBS uses the contactless brake system when vehicle speed is high to obtain superior braking force by eddy current, which is induced in pole area by magnetic flux through a rotating conductive disk. On the contrary, when a vehicle speed is low, contact type brake system such as conventional hydraulic brake system makes higher braking force.   • 오늘날 데이터베이스 시스템 의 스토리지에 많은 정보를 저장하게 되는데 이때 주로 HDD가 사용되고 있으며, 지금까지 대용량 저장 장치로 발전을 해왔다. HDD는 단위 비트 당 가격이 저렴한 이점이 있으나 HDD를 이용한 저장장치는 낮은 수행 속도 때문에 빠르게 정보를 제공받기를 원하는 사용자의 요구를 충족시키지 못하고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 빠른 I/O속도를 갖는 SSD를 이용한 저장 장치가 연구가 많이 되고 있으나 비트 당 가격이 비싼 SSD의 단점으로 인해 HDD를 전부 SSD로 대체하기에는 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 HDD를 SSD로 완전히 대체하는 시스템이 아니라 SSD를 캐시로 사용한 SSD의 기반으로 혼합 스토리지 구조를 이용하여 검색 성능을 최적화시키기 위한 방법을 제안한다.

Microwave Induced Reduction/Oxidation Reaction by SHS Technique (마이크로파를 이용한 SHS 방법에 의한 분말의 산화-환원반응)

  • A reduction/oxidation reaction between A1 metal powder and SiO2 powder was performed by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) reaction induced by microwave energy to produce a composite of Al2O3 and Si powders by using a 2.45 GHz kitchen model microwave oven. A Microwave Hybrid Heating(MHH) method was applied by using SiC powders as a suscepting material to raise the temperature of the disk samples and the heat increase rate of over 100℃/min were obtained before the reaction. The reaction started around 850℃ and the heat increase rate jumped to over 200℃/min after the reaction took place.

  • PVD에 의한 증착 대상 물질인 Ti, AlSi, Cr 및 각각의 타겟 전류, 바이어스, 압력 조건 들을 설계하여 적용시켰으며 PECVD와 CBC 코팅을 조합하여 발생되는 새로운 나노 멀티박막의 특성을 본 연구에서는 시험분석 및 평가하였다. 코팅층 깊이에 따른 조성 변화는 XPS를 이용하였으며 미세조직 및 표면 상태는 FE-SEM을 이용한 정밀 분석을 실시하였다. 또한, 박막의 경도는 나노인덴터를 이용하여 박막 자체의 경도만을 분석하였다. 한편, Pin-on-disk 방식의 마모시험기를 이용하여 표면조도와 상대재의 처리 상태에 따른 마찰계수를 시험 평가하였다.

Design for Hybrid Circular Bragg Gratings for a Highly Efficient Quantum-Dot Single-Photon Source

  • We present a design for hybrid circular Bragg gratings (hCBGs) for efficiently extracting single-photons emitted by InAs quantum dots (QDs) embedded in GaAs. Finite-difference time-domain simulations show that a very high photon collection efficiency (PCE) up to 96% over a 50 nm bandwidth and pronounced Purcell factors up to 19 at cavity resonance are obtained. We also systematically investigate the geometry parameters, including the $SiO_2$ thickness, grating period, gap width and the central disk radius, to improve the device performances. Finally, the PCEs and the Purcell factors of QDs located at different positions of the hCBG are studied, and the results show great robustness against uncertainties in the location of the QD.

  • Flash memories are one of best media to support future computer's storages. However, we need to improve traditional data management scheme due to the relatively slow characteristics of flash operation of SSD. Due to the unique characteristics of flash media and hard disk, the efficiency of I/O processing is severely reduced without special treatment, especially in the presence of heavy workload or bulk data copy. In this respect, we need to design and develop efficient hybrid-RAID storage system.
