  • During PEMFC operation, OCV(open circuit voltage) and low humidity conditions accelerate the degradation of perfluorosulfonic acid membrane. There have been no studies that clearly explain why these conditions accelerate the membrane degradation. In this study, the hydrogen permeability through the membrane, I-V polarization of MEA, fluoride emission rate(FER) and $H_2O_2$ concentration in condensed water were measured during cell operation under OCV and low relative humidity(RH). The experimental results were evaluated with oxygen radical mechanism the most commonly known for membrane degradation. It seems that low RH of anode is a good condition for $H{\cdot}$ radical formation on the Pt catalyst and the OCV condition accelerate the $H{\cdot}$ to form $HO_2{\cdot}$ radical attacking the polymer membrane.

  • This study aims to present the practical Nitrogen monoxide (NO) removal capacity of cement mortar with Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) which is one of the paving materials by considering the environment of pavement in urban areas. NO removal capacity test under designated conditions of humidity of inflow gas and the test with variation of the degree of saturation of specimen were conducted. In the test for humidity, dry specimen is subject to the test and NO removal ratio was observed. Humidity-NO removal ratio curve is a log normal distribution in shape, and the maximum NO removal ratio appears at specific humidity. NO removal capacity test relying on the degree of saturation was carried out with wet specimen to reflect the unsaturated pavement by rainfall and domestic sewage. Wet specimen presents less NO removal capacity than dry specimen and the recovering evolution of NO removal capacity follows evaporation. Moreover, $TiO_2$ under the specific depth of specimen hardly contributes to NO removal capacity.

  • In recent years, the micro-tribological behavior of silicon has been the topic of much interest. peformance of thin film under light load is important for potential applications in MEMS. In this work under light load and various humidity, the tribological behavior of undulated surface with various width and shape was Investigated. The results show that undulated surface of linear type had good tribological properties abrasive wear occur depending on the sliding condition. Also the effect of humidity on friction and wear was not important if exist undulation. Finally, undulations on HDD were found to be effective in trapping wear particles.

  • This work investigated the methodology to simultaneously optimize the ozone and relative humidity composition for the $NO_x$ degradation using soil biofilter. Experiments were made as a function of inlet ozone concentration ($0{\sim}1,770\;ppb$) and relative humidity ($38{\sim}81%$). Factorial design ($2^2+3$) and response surface methodology by central composite designs were used to examine the role of two factors and optimal response condition on $NO_x$ degradation. It was found that a second-order response surface model can properly interpret the experimental data with an $R^2$-value of 0.9730 and F-value of 71.83, based on which the maximum $NO_x$ degradation was predicted up to 92.8% within our experimental conditions.

  • A new live-line insulator tester was developed to detect faulty insulators in 154kV power transmission lines. This paper is the second part of the two-part paper and deals with its inspection algorithm development. Unlike normal condition with low pollution and low humidity, the inspection data measured in the field under high pollution or high humidity showed that the voltage distribution of an insulator string has offsets in comparison with those of others and its insulation resistances are greatly decreased, which leads to wrong results of the existing inspection algorithms under such conditions. To solve this problem, we propose new diagnosis algorithms that can exactly detect faulty insulators from measured data regardless of environmental conditions. Its effectiveness was validated by live-line field tests in actual power lines.

  • This paper represents the numerical analysis for microenvironments various temperature and humidity in bed mattress. He purpose of this study is for healthful bed mattress by controling a bacteria with a prediction of the vapor and temperature distributions in the bed mattress. The numerical model is one dimensional unsteady state and the governing equations were discretized by fully implicit scheme. The numerical results were compared with experimental data, and showed a good agreement with them. Specially, the excess-relative humidity shows a lower distribution near the surface of mattress, meaning that the optimum living condition for bacteria will be caused.

  • In recent years, the tribological behavior of coated ceramic material has been the issue of much interest. Particularly, the understanding of the tribological performance of thin film under light load is important for its potential in applications of MEMS. The friction and wear behavior of ceramic material that occur at light load depends on several factors such as surface roughness, contact area and material properties. In this work, the tribological behavior of coated silicon under light load and low speed was investigated. Particularly, the effects of coated materials, humidity and undulated surface were also studied. The results show that the effect of humidity on fiction was influenced by the apparent area of contact between the two surfaces. Also both adhesive and abrasive wear occurred depending on the sliding condition. Finally, undulations on the silicon wafer were found to be effective in trapping wear particles and resulted in the reduction of friction.

  • The specimens for electron microscopic observation made in different seasons have different qualities even though they are made by the same procedure. We observed the various specimens made in each four season. As the results, we concluded that the different specimen conditions were caused by the humidity and penetrability of various solution into the block. In spring, fall and winter, the quality of specimen is good and the difference with one another is not found. But in summer, the specimen have worse quality than in other seasons and not good for sectioning process and observation. In summer with high humidity, we can gain better specimens by eliminating the humidity as much as possible in all processes, thus increasing penetration of various solutions into the specimen.

  • The efficiency and life time of the proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system is critically changed with its humidity which should be maintained properly during dynamic operation. Membrane humidifier is required to regulate proper humidity level for the design point of the PEMFC system. In this study, we presented the performance of the cylindrical membrane humidifier which is operated as water-to-gas. Dry air pressure, liquid water flow temperature, and air flow rate were chosen as the operating parameters. Humidity level is expressed with dew point.

  • This paper report the result of the investigation on the properties of drying shrinkage for alkali-activated slag mortar in different relative humidity Commonly we know that drying shrinkage means lost more moisture but the mechanism of drying shrinkage of alkali activated slag mortar is not entirely due to the quantity of weight loss of water from mortar. pore size distribution and the calcium silicate hydrate gel characteristics have a critical influence on the magnitude of drying shringkage to alkali activated slag mortar. For this investigation, Ca(OH)2, Na2SiO4 were as alkali activator with 5 dosages(6%, 9%, 12%, 15%, 20%) and curing condition were three different relative humidity(35%, 65%, 95%) at $20{\pm}3^{\circ}C$
