  • We report a case of Hymenolepis diminuta infection in a 2-year-old child living in a suburban area of Catania, Italy. This case was initially referred to us as Dipylidium caninum infection, which was not cured after being treated twice with mebendazole. However, by analyzing the clinical presentation and stool samples we arrived to the diagnosis of H. diminuta infection. The case presented with atypical allergic manifestations which had never been reported as clinical features of symptomatic H. diminuta infection; remittent fever with abdominal pain, diffuse cutaneous itching, transient thoracic rash, and arthromyalgias. The patient was treated with a 7-day cycle of oral niclosamide, which proved to be safe and effective. This case report emphasizes that a correct parasitological diagnosis requires adequate district laboratories and trained personnel. In addition, we recommend the importance of reporting all H. diminuta infection cases, in order to improve knowledge on epidemiology, clinical presentation, and treatment protocols.

  • We introduce a new multimedia telemedicine system which is called Telemedicine for Real-time Emergency Multi-consultation(TREM), based on multiple connection between medical specialists. Due to the subdivision of medical specialties, the existing one-to-one telemedicine system needs be modified to a simultaneous multi-consulting system. To facilitate the consultation the designed system includes following modules: high-quality video, video conferenceing, bio-signal transmission, and file transmission. In order to enhance the operability of the system in different network environment, we made it possible for the user to choose appropriate data acquisition sources of multimedia data and video resolutions. We have tested this system set up in three different places: emergency room, radiologist's office, and surgeon's office. All three communicating systems were successful in making connections with the multi-consultation center to exchange data simultaneously in real-time.

  • Earlier in Korea Kimchi was made in every family and every province has own taste and specialties. These days almost of the Kimchis are manufactured. We collected variable Kimchis, which were made for private use and isolated microorganisms. Some interesting micobial cells were identified and studied for its application as food and drinks. One of them was identified as Lactobacillus sakei KJ123. This strain is known as producing interesting aromatic components during Sakei fermentation like Kimchi in variable conditions. We tried to develop a health beverage with fermentation process. The Cucurbita maxima has been known as a traditional healthy food and variable positive effects on the human body were already reported. In this study we tried to develop a production process for a healthy fermented drink on this substrate with strains originated from Kimchi. Many kinds of lacctobacilli species existed in the fermented food cannot survive in the acidic conditions like human stomach. So we selected resisting strains in this conditions. The survival rate of Lactobacillus sakei cells in the artificial gastric juice and bile acid and other physiological characteristics at the variable conditions have been tested. After fermentation process some sensory tests on the product with panels were tried.

  • This study investigates the relationship between human resource capacity and financial and non-financial performance. We examine the previous studies on human resources and corporate performance, the performance factors of SMEs, financial performance and non-financial performance. Based on this research, model and research hypothesis were set up. According to study result, CEO's competency influences on both of non-financial and financial performances. The period of CEO's experience in one industry positively effects on filing number of intellectual properties(IPs). Firm's basic competency positively effects on non-financial performance but has meaningless impact on financial performance. The extent of education and experience of executive managers positively influences on filling number of IPs. The extent of education and experience of R&D personnel also positively effects on technology innovation output. Executive managers specialties may influence on long term performance but are identified that those have no influence on financial performance.

Data were collected from 285 respondents who have participated in 'Learning Organization Project'(response rate =$50.5\%$). Structured questionnaire were applied by self administrated survey for two weeks since 2003 May. Main results were as follows; In the result of factor analysis, four factor were created and almost questionnaire items were classified into as same categories as theoretical concepts. Cronbach's a coefficient also showed over 0.7 in all categories. This result means that measurement tool to evaluate the development level of learning organization is valid and reliable. In the comparison of the development level of learning organization by participants' specialties, managerial workers perceived the lowest construction level, while medical technicians evaluated it as the highest level. In regression analysis, the perception levels of work environment, task and human aspect showed positive relationship with job competency significantly. For job satisfaction, levels of task and human aspects had positive relationship significantly. In addition, for organizational commitement, levels of organization and human aspect were positive predictors. Finally, for the satisfaction about experience of learning organization project, levels of environment, task and hmm aspects were related positively. We concluded from these result that the positive relationship between construction levels of learning organization and organization effectiveness was extended to hospital, besides industrial fields. We recommend the introduction and facilitation of learning organization project in various settings to improve the competency of knowledge management in individual and organizational levels.

The study also examined the correlations among the major causes of job stress, job results and job turnover rate. A part of the questionnaire consisted of questions on major causes of job stress, job result, and intention and trial to leave a job. The subjects were to rate on 5 point Likert-type scales. The other part included the questions on demographic and individual characteristics of the subjects and their company characteristics. For the survey, the subjects were 99 fashion merchandisers and 128 fashion designers who are employed by mens or womens wear manufacturers. The SAS PC+ package was used to calculate frequency, Cronbach $\alpha$, multiple regressions. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The high degree of the job results were resulted from the high degree of specialties in their job characteristics, high contentment in human relations, career development and income, and low role conflict. 2. Stronger intentions and more trials to leave their job were correlated to better task performance in the workplace, lower commitment to their job, and lower job satisfaction. 3. • Trichinellosis (trichinosis) is a parasitic infection caused by nematodes of the genus Trichinella. Pigs are the most common source of human infection. We describe a case of a 47-year-old woman presented with a wide range of intermittent symptoms including prolonged fever, dry cough, diarrhea, rash, myalgias and arthralgias. The patient was attended by physicians with various medical specialties such as dermatologists, rheumatologists and allergiologists, but they did not establish a certain diagnosis because of the gradual onset of symptoms, raising the suspicion of a systematic disease. After extensive work up, the diagnosis of trichinosis was established with femoral muscle biopsy compatible with inflammatory myopathy of parasitic etiology with trichinosis to be the predominant diagnosis. Despite the significant delay of diagnosis for almost three months, patient was treated successfully with no further complications. Trichinellosis is a food-borne treatable infection. Preventive measures include community education especially in zones where parasite prevalence is increased, improvement of farming and cooking techniques.

  • The responsibility to ensure the health rights of detainees, particularly their medical rights, fundamentally lies with the state in all nations. However, in the correctional facilities of the Republic of Korea, these rights are currently not adequately safeguarded. Numerous detainees express dissatisfaction with the medical services provided and show a preference for voluntary external treatment. However, barriers such as prolonged application processes for external treatment and the requirement for detainees to cover their medical expenses present significant challenges. Therefore, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea has advocated for an increased medical budget in correctional facilities and a bolstered professional medical workforce to improve the medical care of detainees. Recommendations for improvements include: (1) establishing dedicated correctional hospitals for detainees, (2) setting up specialized correctional wards, (3) collaborating with military hospitals, (4) launching mobile medical buses for diverse specialties, (5) enhancing collaboration with public and private medical institutions, (6) increasing compensation for partnering external medical institutions, (7) improving the working conditions of medical officers, (8) safeguarding the defense rights of medical staff, (9) improving the working conditions of public health doctors from the Ministry of Justice in correctional facilities, and (10) pre-assigning public health specialists and military doctors to correctional facilities. By implementing these measures, it is anticipated that the quality of medical services in the Republic of Korea's correctional facilities will improve, reducing the demand for external treatments among detainees and ensuring their health and medical rights are realistically upheld.
