  • The syntheses of different types of stilbenoid libraries have been studied recently. In these courses, the screening of the generated natural product-mimic focused libraries led to the identification of the novel lead compounds for human cytochrome P450 (CYP) lAs, melanin production, and sortase A. A library of trans-stilbene derivatives was prepared through a new efficient solution pahse synthetic pathway and their inhibitory activities were evaluated on human cytochrome P450s(CYP) 1A1, 1A2, and 1B1 to find a potent and selective CYP1 inhibitor. • The purpose of this study is to develop an inquiry sheet for the contents of the clothing curriculum of home economics in middle schools using a physical fiber Identification method to increase students' interests in and understanding of clothing materials. Therefore, a physical fiber Identification method suitable to middle school students was developed in actual classrooms and the effects were analyzed. As a result, the physical fiber identification method was developed to distinguish between wool and acrylic knits; moreover, the identification method between silk and polyester fiber was studied. And then the inquiry sheet using fiber identification method was also developed. When interests in learning, attitudes of acceptance toward learning, and learning achievements of the experimental group (used the inquiry sheet) and the control group (did not use the inquiry sheet) were compared, the experimental group scored higher in every category, all of which were meaningful differences. Thus, this study demonstrated that the developed fiber differentiation method and inquiry sheet improved self-directed learning as well as learners' understanding of clothing materials by enabling the application the knowledge to the learners' realities.

  • The identification of bacterial pathogens to humans is critical for environmental microbial risk assessment. However, current methods for identifying pathogens in environmental samples are limited in their ability to detect highly diverse bacterial communities and accurately differentiate pathogens from commensal bacteria. In the present study, we suggest an improved approach using a combination of identification results obtained from multiple databases, including the multilocus sequence typing (MLST) database, virulence factor database (VFDB), and pathosystems resource integration center (PATRIC) databases to resolve current challenges. By integrating the identification results from multiple databases, potential bacterial pathogens in metagenomes were identified and classified into eight different groups. Based on the distribution of genes in each group, we proposed an equation to calculate the metagenomic pathogen identification index (MPII) of each metagenome based on the weighted abundance of identified sequences in each database. We found that the accuracy of pathogen identification was improved by using combinations of multiple databases compared to that of individual databases. When the approach was applied to environmental metagenomes, metagenomes associated with activated sludge were estimated with higher MPII than other environments (i.e., drinking water, ocean water, ocean sediment, and freshwater sediment). The calculated MPII values were statistically distinguishable among different environments (p < 0.05). These results demonstrate that the suggested approach allows more for more accurate identification of the pathogens associated with metagenomes.

  • Recently, de-identification of personal information, which has been a long-cherished desire of the data-based industry, was revised and specified in August 2020. It became the foundation for activating data called crude oil[2] in the fourth industrial era in the industrial field. However, some people are concerned about the infringement of the basic rights of the data subject[3]. Accordingly, a development study was conducted on the Batch De-Identification Tool, a personal information de-identification automation tool. In this study, first, we developed an image labeling tool to label human faces (eyes, nose, mouth) and car license plates of various resolutions to build data for training. Second, an object recognition model was trained to run the object recognition module to perform de-identification of personal information. The automated personal information de-identification tool developed as a result of this research shows the possibility of proactively eliminating privacy violations through online services. These results suggest possibilities for data-based industries to maximize the value of data while balancing privacy and utilization.

  • SINE-R retroposons have been derived from human endogenous retrovirus HERV-K family and found to be hominoid specific. Both SINE-R retroposons and HERV-K family are potentially capable of affecting the expression of closely located genes. From cDNA library of human fetal brain, we identified seven SINE-R retroposons and compared them with sequences derived from GenBank database. The SINE-R retroposons from human feta1 brain showed 85∼97% sequence similarities with the human-specific retroposon SINE-R.C2. They also showed 88∼96% sequence similarities with the sequence of the schizo-cDNA clone that derived from postmortem frontal cortex tissue of a schizophrenic patient. Phylogenetic analysis using the neiqhbor-joining method revealed that the seven new SINE-R retroposons from cDNA library of the human feta1 brain have proliferated independently during human evolution. The data indicate that such SINE-R retroposons are expressed in human fetal brain and deserve further investigation as potential leads to understanding of neuropsychiatric diseases.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the symbolic meaning in body image and fashion style portrayed in Korea and American movies in aspects of sex, race, nature, and technology. The researcher analyzed movies in Korea and USA, and the results were as follows. In aspects of sex, movies portrayed new masculinity and femininity escaped from previous gender stereotypes, and the clothing styles characterized sex identity and sex roles. In aspects of race, more various races appeared in America movies than Korea's, and the appearance and stereotypes related with race were blurred by the globalization and the change of film market environments. In aspects of nature, Korea movie portrayed the human being as lyrical appearance in nature, and America movie expressed the human as a strong men conquering the nature in adventure movie or super human image combined with nature thing which endowed nature's superior characteristics to human body in fantasy and science fiction movies. In aspects of technology, the human bodies were described as cyborg, alien, or super human, which symbolized the do-identification in digital world, de-boundarization between human and machines, and the human's uncertainty.

  • In this paper, we propose a Line-of-Sight (LoS)/Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) identification- based Human Activity Recognition (HAR) system using Channel State Information (CSI) to improve the accuracy of HAR, which dynamically changes depending on the reception environment. to consider the reception environment of HAR system, the proposed system includes three operational phases: Preprocessing phase, Classification phase, and Activity recognition phase. In the preprocessing phase, amplitude is extracted from CSI raw data, and noise in the extracted amplitude is removed. In the Classification phase, the reception environment is categorized into LoS and NLoS. Then, based on the categorized reception environment, the HAR model is determined based on the result of the reception environment categorization. Finally, in the activity recognition phase, human actions are classified into sitting, walking, standing, and absent using the determined HAR model. To demonstrate the superiority of the proposed system, an experimental implementation was performed and the accuracy of the proposed system was compared with that of the existing HAR system. The results showed that the proposed system achieved 16.25% higher accuracy than the existing system.

  • Nowadays many people are concerned about being healthy, and many dairy products are taken as health supplementary foods. Among dairy products, kefir, also called as Tibet mushroom, is a yogurt fermented by kefir grain, which is a mixture of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts. Although there are many empirical evidences that kefir is very influential for human body, the exact reason is not definitively discovered. Therefore, it would be useful to understand characteristics of a kefir grain and to categorize bacteria in a kefir grain. In this paper, molecular biological apparatus such as PCR, electrophoresis, PCR purification, DNA sequencing were used to identify and classify the species of lactic acid bacteria and yeast in a kefir grain. We used PCR-based identification method using 16S rRNA primer and Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) primer. We identified 6 different species which were selected on different medium. In addition, observation with scanning electron microscope (SEM) enabled us to grasp an external shape of the kefir grain. Although we found a limited number of microbial species, more intensive research are needed for extensive identification of microorganism species in Korean kefir grain.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest a practical and simple method for the identification of the joint mechanical properties and to apply it to human knee joints. The passive moment at a joint was modeled by three mechanical parts, that is, a gravity term, a linear damper term and a nonlinear spring term. Passive pendulum tests were performed in 5 fat and 5 thin men. The data of pendulum test were used to identify the mechanical properties of joints through sequential quadratic programming (SQP) with random initial values. The identification was successful where the normalized root-mean-squared (RMS) errors between the simulated and experimental joint angle trajectories were less than 10%. The parameter values of mechanical properties obtained in this study agreed with literature. The inertia, gravity and the damping constant were greater at fat men, which indicates more resistance to body movement and more energy consumption fer fat men. The suggested method is noninvasive and requires simple setup and short measurement time. It is expected to be useful in the evaluation of joint pathologies.
