Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the status of the Human research Protection Program (HRPP) within a hospital or a research institute in Korea. Methods: Survey was conducted during June 12th-21th 2019. Survey was distributed to the members of Korean Association of IRB (KAIRB) through each IRB office. Descriptive statistics were performed using SPSS ver. 26. Results: A total of 86 people responded, and 75 (87.0%) answered that they have perceived the HRPP. Seventy out of 86 respondents (81.4%) were conducting internal audit, several institutions were operated simultaneously the other form of audits such as IRB audit, system audit. Regarding the management of Suspected Unexpected Serious Adverse Reaction (SUSAR), 62.8% answered that they have regulation that can decide to suspend the study when there is a risk to subject safety. Among the respondents, 66.3% performed 'Help desk.' Conclusion: In this study, we assessed the current status of HRPP operation at each research institution based on Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) HRPP guidelines. The HRPP accredited institution operated the subject protection activities according to this program, and even if the HRPP was not officially operated, the related activities were conducted focusing on the cases that could have a significant impact on the safety of research subjects. In order to ensure the quality of domestic clinical trials and to stably establish the HRPP, efforts at the individual institution level will be required.
This study aimed to identify the contributors of extra-curricular activities of preschool children focusing on home environmental factors(financial capital, human capital, and social capital) and maternal belief about factors on academic achievement(child's effort, child's ability, teacher's instruction, and maternal teaching). One hundred and seventy three mothers whose preschool children were attending child-care centers in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do participated in the survey. Kinlaw et al.(2001)'s Importance of Effort/Ability Scale was used to assess the mother's belief about the factors on academic achievement. Stipek et al.(1992)'s Activities Sub-scales was revised to measure a social capital, that is the mother's formal and informal activities providing to their preschool child. Educational level was utilized as human capital and monthly income was considered as financial capital. Also, using open ended questions, the subjects were asked to respond to the numbers of extra-curricula activities their child was presently attending, and when he or she began to attend the extra-curricular activity. The main results are as follows. In general, the mothers provided informal activities to their preschool child more than formal activities. Also, they believed the teacher's instruction is the most important and the child's ability the least important in their child's academic achievement. The number of extra-curricular activities was predicted by mothers' formal activities and their belief on their child's ability. The age of starting extra-curricular activities were explained by mothers' formal activities and their educational level.

Precipitation, runoff, and evapotranspiration are changing worldwide due to climate change and human activities. Because watershed runoff is an important component of the hydrological cycle, it is important to investigate the changes in watershed runoff for water resources management. This study collected observed data of runoff, precipitation, temperature, and evapotranspiration in the Geum River basin as well as their synthetic data according to Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) scenarios, investigated the trend of hydro-meteorological variables using the Mann-Kendall test, and quantitatively evaluated the effects of climate change and human activities on the watershed runoff using the climate elasticity approach and the Budyko framework. The results indicated that the relative contribution of climate change and human activity to changes in runoff varies from region to region. For example, the watershed with the greatest contribution from climate change and human activity were the Yongdam Dam (#3001) basin and the Daecheong Dam (#3008) basin, respectively. Future climate change showed an increase in precipitation and temperature in both RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios, resulting in changes in runoff in the Geum River basin from 44.8% to 65.5%, respectively. We concluded that the effect on watershed runoff can be separated into climate change and human activities, which will be important information in establishing sustainable water resource management plans.
Human milk and bovine milk in normal stage were fractionated four parts : whey, skimmilk membrane, and casein pellet. The specific activity (nmole / mim / mg protein) and distribution ratio(%) of suborganella marker enzymes in each separated milk fraction were determined. Especially, neutral $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase, acid $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase, NADH-cytochrome C reductase, and acid phosphatase were higher in human milk. However, both $Ca^{2+}$-ATPases were not detected in all fractions of bovine milk. On the other hand, 5'-nucleotidase, phosphodiesterase I, alkaline phosphatase, and $\gamma$-glutamyl transpeptidase activities in bovine milk were higher than in human milk. Most of the marker enzymes were highly distributed in cream fraction of either human milk or bovine milk, and their specific activities were high to 24 fold from 3 fold when compared with that of whole milk. These results suggest that marker enzymes in mammary epitherial cell are transfered into cream fraction by the membrane rearrangement, and different biochemical reaction between human and bovine exists for milk secretion in mammary gland.
Purpose - This study verified the mediating effect of volunteer activities in the influence of global citizenship consciousness on human rights sensitivity of university students majoring in business administration. Research design, data, and methodology - The survey was conducted on 172 4-year college students in G City, Korea. SPSS 23.0 program was used to perform frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple regression analysis. In addition, path analysis was conducted to confirm the mediating effect of volunteer activities. Result - First, the "justice domain" had a statistically significant effect on human rights sensitivity. Second, the "cognitive domain" had a positive and significant effect on volunteer participation. Third, the volunteer participation of university students majoring in business administration had a positive and significant effect on human rights sensitivity. Fourth, in the relationship between global citizenship consciousness and human rights sensibility of university students, volunteer participation had a partial mediating effect. Conclusion - The period of college enrollment is an important time to establish life goals and strategies as adults. Therefore, if the university environment is built to grow into a healthy global citizen, it will help to cultivate global competence and the "sensitivity to human rights" that is more emphasized in the era of the 4th industrial revolution.
The purpose of this study was to explore the Korean housewives' consumption experiences and perceived quality of life. Perceived quality of life was composed of four dimensions: motivation, affect, efficiency, and activation. The study results are: 1. Housewives spare their time for physiologic activities(22.9%), household activities(20.1), and personal activities(10.1%) in sequence. 2. Although the motivation that housewives do shopping activities is coming from a sense of duty, the perceived quality of life during shopping is showing far more positive affect than the perceived quality of life during other activities. In this context, shopping activities are interesting in that they are thought of a kind of entertainment as well as work. 3. With an analysis of covariance, housewives' perceived quality of life has an effect on everyday life in that 4 perceived qualities of life such as motivation, affect, efficiency and activation has a significant effect on flow and it has a significant effect on satisfaction.
The purpose of this study is to find out leisure constraints of the elderly and to examine how these constraints influence their participation in leisure activities and life satisfaction. The data analysis of 291 senior citizens over 60 years old were conducted, the research results are as follows: first, leisure constraints of senior citizens stem from individual, societal, economic, family constraints. It indicates that anyone of constraints did not exclusively determine leisure constraints. Rather, the result implies that leisure constraints for the elderly is from multifaceted levels of social system. Second, participation in leisure activities positively worked on life satisfaction. Third, leisure constraints of the elderly directly influenced their participation in leisure activities and life satisfaction. In conclusion, to revitalize senior citizens' participation in leisure activities is critical in advancing their life satisfaction. Nationwide positive and supportive social environment for their leisure participation should be established first, on which social and legal systems should be consequently organized. At the same time, social supports to provide opportunities for their leisure participation are required for the future senior citizens.
Oleanolic acid (OA), a triterpenoid known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, is commonly present in several medicinal plants but its anticoagulant activities have not been studied. Here, the anticoagulant properties of OA were determined by monitoring activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), prothrombin time (PT), fibrin polymerization as well as cell-based thrombin and activated factor X (FXa) generation activities. Data showed OA prolonged aPTT and PT significantly and inhibited thrombin catalyzed fibrin polymerization. In addition, OA inhibited the activities of thrombin and FXa and inhibited the generation of thrombin or FXa in human endothelial cells. OA also inhibited TNF-${\alpha}$-induced tissue factor expression on human endothelial cells. In accordance with these anticoagulant activities, OA showed an anticoagulant effect in vivo. These results indicate that OA possesses antithrombotic activities and suggest that daily consumption of a herb containing OA may be preventing thrombosis in pathological states.
Legumes have been important components of the human diet. They contain not only protein, starch, and dietary fiber, but also various phenolic compounds such as flavonoids and phenolic acids. The importance of phenolic compounds to human health is well known due to their antioxidant activities. In this study, three legumes (adzuki beans, common beans, and black soybeans) frequently cultivated in Korea were evaluated for their total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activities using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), ABTS (2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline 6-sulfonate)), and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant potential) assays. In addition, correlations between agricultural traits and antioxidant activities of these three legumes were analyzed. Antioxidant activities assessed by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays and TPC showed wide variations among legumes types and accessions. Among the three legumes, adzuki beans showed higher TPC and antioxidant activity than the other two legumes. In correlation analysis, seed size showed negative correlations with antioxidant activities and TPC. In principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis, each of the three legumes was clearly separate. Results of this study can be used as basic information for developing functional materials for each legume. They can also help us understand the overall antioxidant activity of the three legumes.
Concept and establishment of essential amino acids in animals and human beings rendered immeasurable contributions to animal production and human health. In ruminant animals, however, essential amino acids have never been completely established. The present review proposes a hypothesis that histidine may not be an essential amino acid for normal growing cattle (Japanese black) at least at the growing stage after about 450 kg of body weight on the basis of the experimental results of histidinol dehydrogenase activities in some tissues of the cattle together with hints from which the hypothesis was derived. At the same time, histidinol dehydrogenase activities in liver, kidney and muscle of swine, mouse, fowl and wild duck will be shown and the essentiality of histidine in these animals will be discussed. Finally, the essentiality of histidine for adult human will briefly be discussed.
