  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the present workfamily balance policy and suggest a vision for moving forward. First, this study identified the scope of the workfamily balance policy and assessed the importance of this policy in relation to other family-related policies. Second, we evaluated the workfamily balance policy from the perspective of family resource management. Third, we suggested orientations and strategies for better policymaking from this same viewpoint.

  • This study is to review the policy objective of the spread of family value in 2nd Family Policy 2011-2015. The spread of family value is newly adapted sphere in 2nd Family Policy. But this policy objective is not clear, diverse or comprehensive. So, this study attempts to examine two questions: what is the family value in healthy family policy? How this objective is reflected to policy services. Because families are shaped by changes in social norm or trend, this study examined the changing demographics of family affect to family value. And the meaning of family value and the viewpoints are clarified. Last, for the extend of this policy objective, this study suggests to reach consensus on future family in Korean society, to emphasize function of family as social safety net.

GIS-Based Research on Location and Spatial Characteristics of the Slum in Daejeon

  • This study performed GIS and statistical analyses on the location and spatial characteristics of the slum in Daejeon. Spatial data of 648 slum residents in Daejeon were collected and 131 residents among them were surveyed. The results showed the trends of higher rent, lower social exclusion and closer neighboring relations in slum center than the surrounding areas, which could be interpreted as the interrelated multilateral effects of the micro- (housing), meso- (relations), exo- (community) and macro- (government policy) systems. The strong bonds among neighbors and various supports from social service facilities elevated the slum area's rent and diminished residents' social exclusion more than housing conditions (for instance, poor hygiene and low safety). Slum tenants willingly paid a premium for their substandard housings and refused moving to governmentally provided modern housing units. In urban development, administrative authorities need to be cautious about slum uprooting. Much rather an alternative renewal approach is needed which protects the slum's intimate relations while improving its overall living standards.

  • A comprehensive research effort in order to develop and disseminate modernized Korean housing (Hanok) has recently been initiated by Korean government. This large scale research project encompasses a wide spectrum of housing development including public policy, architectural plans, modules, construction materials and methods, prefabricated assemblies, automated production, construction management, and advanced information systems. For the purpose of integrating and automating the whole processes from an industry perspective, it is of great importance to develop a standard classification system and project numbering system (PNS) for the modernized Korean housing. This paper focuses on the standard classification systems and PNS for cost and schedule control. The distinct characteristics and managerial requirements were explored and embedded into the proposed classifications for modernized Hanok.

  • Apartment housing is a widely-spread type in Korean housing market. Nevertheless, it has caused serious problems such as traditional community corruption, unsafe structure, defects and litigation from noise. Noise, especially in concrete structure for apartment housing, is hardly controlled in proper to prevent sound transmission between upper and lower families with existing system, In foreign countries, there are floating floor systems to enhance the noise control performance in multi-family housing. Therefore, this study aims to analyze subjective responses on sound characteristics in residential buildings. We analyzed the residential response and the quantities of measured data from environmental noise. The results of this study will be useful to provide guideline to make policy of environmental noise and criteria.

  • The advanced rural village development project started in 2005, and this project of purpose is improvement of housing environment and promotion of region activation. Researcher investigated about the advanced rural village development project of nine complex through field survey. The aim of this study is to be offered data of idyllic housing policy by examination actual conditions of study subject. Based on this study, mainly three results can be drawn as follows ; first, this project makes a great contributed to flow in population from urban to activate rural areas. Second, the project success depends on improvement an institution and planed, timely approach. Third, central government must plan network system with rural development project in political, and must support local government into political frame. The local government must consider a regional housing plan overall and must make an effort itself for the project success.

  • While reconstruction has been criticized since 1990 for its tendency of resource over-usage and negative impact on the surrounding environments, remodeling has begun drawing attention as its new alternative. Through examining the recent legal and systematic conditions such as Construction Law, Common Housing Administration Ordinance, and Housing Law, etc. this research analyzes problems on the current legal systems on remodeling, and it aims to suggest systematic and policy-driven schemes which could revitalize remodeling on its software and hardware sides. Careful consideration in regards to remodeling should be given from the initial design stage and throughout the maintenance stages of construction to achieve lengthy durability of buildings, and realization of long-term maintenance costs should also be pursued during this process. This will set in place the practice of remodeling in longer than 50-years intervals since the construction rather than the current 20 or 30 years.

The Economic Analysis on the Heating System Remodeling by the Life Cycle Costing in Permanent Rental Apartment (LCC 기법을 이용한 영구임대아파트 난방방식 리모델링에 대한 경제성분석 -유지관리비용을 중심으로-)

  • Considering the present development situation of rental apartment since 1982, the supply of rental housing for low-income dwellers has contributed a amount of quantities, but has been deficient qualities in housing policy. To propose the device of remodeling for low-income dwellers in deteriorated apartment, this study investigated the energy consumption of central heating system and the characteristics of maintenance cost in permanent rental apartment. The results of evaluation of alternative heating systems by Life Cycle Costing in permanent rental apartment were as follows; From Life Cycle 15∼20 years by Present Worth Method, the economic heating system of remodeling is central heating system (heat source: B-C oil), unit heating system(natural gas), central heating system(natural gas) in order.

The Comparison of Maintenance Cost and Residents′Consciousness of Remodeling by Rental Apartment Types (임대아파트 유형별 유지관리비와 거주자의 리모델링 의식비교)

To propose the device of remodeling for low-income dwellers in deteriorated apartment, this study investigated the characteristics of maintenance cost and the residents'consciousness of remodeling by rental apartment types. The results of this study were as follows; The annual maintenance cost of permanent rental apartment was 14,249 won/$\textrm{m}^2$$.$yr, that of fifty years period rental apartment was 13,372 won/$\textrm{m}^2$$.$yr. In the case of remodeling in deteriorated heating system, the principal decision factor of choice was showed “economics” as priority. Residents in rental apartment preferred remodeling to reconstruction, and unit heating system to central heating system.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the research trends and characteristics in the research subjects related to the housing for the elderly in Korea. The number of 199 studies was selected from the paper of Architectural Institute of Korea. The data of the present condition for welfare facilities are exploited from Korea National Statistical Office. The elderly welfare facilities are divided as 5 kinds of things ; housing facilities, medical facilities, leisure facilities, retired facilities and mixed facilities. And policy and statutes of welfare facilities are included in this study. The data were analysed with contents and chronological order and then the trends of research were studied by facilities. As the results of study, studying about housing facilities is well progressed but, the other parts of studying are little short. Especially, studying for retired facilities is seldom done so we need systematic survey and study.
