  • Safety of residents could be considered and then increased when we plan, design, and operate a city. In Korea, CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) is currently being applied to new towns. However, it is not systemized and neither efficient, for there are no constraint provisions, and the foreign cases are not specifically customized to the current situation of the country. This means, the introduction of CPTED is an indispensable fact, but there are limits to the budget aids and actual application, for there is no legal base to support it. This study, therefore, aims to find the limits from analyzing related laws and regimes, administrative regulations, and applied cases, and to deduct improvement plans based on examined foreign cases. In this Study, the supporting system of foreign CPTED related laws and regulations was analyzed around the cases of England and U.S.A, and based on that information, the present condition and limits of CPTED related laws and regulations of Korea were deducted. As a result of this study, there were no constraint provisions to apply the design guidelines to actual planning, and there were limits on backup aid and actual application due to the lacking of analyzing the relevant area. Also, an acceptable framework must be arranged by the revision of laws and ordinances to compel the system, and link it with the CPTED certification system which will revitalize the whole system.

  • This Study aimed to construction the plan of the statistics for national greenhouse gas inventories of international standards. Currently, the statistics of the greenhouse gas inventories of South Korea, has a problem that is not able to build the changed information. In previous studies, it has been limited to the construction of the information within each category. In order to solve these problems, targeting Gyeonggi province, we analyzed the land use change by utilizing the various information such as satellite images, KLIS, UPIS. As a result, we suggested the following implementation, classification system of LULUCF category, improvement of accuracy by utilizing satellite images of high resolution, additional research for methodology. Based on these contents, we suggested the construction plan of the statistics for national greenhouse gas inventories(LULUCF sector). Frist, it is necessary to construct of land use change informations for the past 20 years, Then, it need to create the matrix of land use change by utilizing satellite images and various land information systems.

  • The purpose of this study is ti find out a desirable way to stability and improvement of household economy by studying the changes of consumption level and consumption pattern of urban salary and wage earners' households during the years from 1970 to 1978. For this study, "Annual Report on the Family Income and Expenditure survey" (Published by the Bureau of Statistics, Economics Planning Board) has been used as basic material, and the methods of analysis used here are the time series analysis. We have gained the results as follows: 1) From 1970 to 198, the total income level increased at the rate of 416.2% in nominal price, but only 74.4% in reql price, while the total expenditure level showed 338.5% increase in nominal price, but its real increased proved only 418.2% in consideration of inflation. APC decreased from 95.1%(in 1970) to 80.7%(in 1978). 2) As for the expenditure pattern for the above mentioned nine years, the rate of food expenditure increased until 1975 under the price influence, but it trended to decease there after on . The rate of housing expenditure showed a gradual increase while that of fuel and light expenditure was on the decrease. The rate of clothing expenditure had been on the decease until 1974 but it began to increase gradually thereafter on. The trend of miscellaneous expenditures was irregularly up and down, educational expences being the first rank among them, Non-living expenditure had been constant until 1974 but it decreased a little after that. From the results it was found that the consumption level of the salary and wage earners' household in all cities from 1970 to 1978 was not practically improved because of rise in prices, nor was the Engel's coefficient and the rate of miscellaneous expenditure changed distinctively. However, as the successive decrease of APC suggests the possibility of economic development, we must try to put stress on economy in consumption and on encouraging. This will help run our household economy in safety and stability.

  • This study develops a predictive model for household water end-uses based on data that have measured household characteristics, housing characteristics and other items, surveyed over 3 years in Korea. However, the measured data was left-skewed and it was not fitted to normal distribution. The parameter estimate were biased when using a multiple regression model. In addition, the results of the testing for the model were usually of significance due to the tiny residual from a large number of observations. In order to solve the problem, we suggested log-normal regression model and Weibull regression model as alternatives. The results of this study can be utilized in the planning stages of water and waste water facilities.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest the types of recovery activities and the major contents of preimpact recovery plan through theoretical review. Disaster recovery is to provide immediate support during the early recovery period necessary to return vital life support systems to minimum operation levels, and continuing to provide support until the community returns to normal. Disaster researchers distinguished 4 types in recovering from disaster as follows; an emergency period, a restoration period, a reconstruction period, and a developmental reconstruction period. And recovery measures are both short-term and long-term. Short-term measures are relief and rehabilitation and long-term measures include reconstruction. Finally, to design a preimpact recovery plan, we should define a disaster recovery organization that includes major stakeholders, identify the location of temporary housing, determine how to perform essential tasks, address the licensing and monitoring of contractors and retail price controls to ensure victims are not exploited, determine how recovery tasks will be carried out at historical sites, and recognize the recovery period as a unique time to enact policies for hazard mitigation and incorporate this objecive into the recovery planning process.

  • It is not surprising that senior centers are widely used nationwide as Korea becomes an aging society. This study attempts to figure out senior citizens' needs and evaluations of senior centers in terms of characteristics of their usage and spatial composition. A face to face interview using a questionnaire was conducted on 255 senior citizens who has been using senior centers located in Jangyu new city apartment housing complex. The questionnaire is composed of questions asking characteristics of their usage, evaluations of spatial composition, and respondents' demographic data. Findings are: First, it is found that many respondents visit senior centers everyday and spend 4 to 6 hours a day. Their main activities are meeting friends, taking hobbies, and dining. That is, senior centers play a pivotal role in daily lives of senior citizens. Such characteristics should be taken into account in space design when planning to build a future senior center; Second, it is found that senior centers play a role of auxiliary space for building their sense of belonging and familarity. It is found that furnitures in senior centers are worn out and safety measures are not sufficiently considered; Third, it is found that they highly evaluate flexible spacial composition that could be partitioned or extended depending on occasions even though they prefer independent space; Fourth, it is found that kitchen facilities are not large enough considering the fact that more that half of the respondents have their lunches in senior centers. Even though they do not cook for themselves kitchen space should be large enough for preparing meals simultaneously for a large number people.

  • In case of the large-scaled indoor gymnasium that has been constructed in the local area, there are many instances for the use as multipurpose space where the public performances are possible such as leisure activity, lecture, assembling activity, drama, concert and so on for the resident together with the purpose of sporting facility. In order for utilization to the maximum of the function of such indoor gymnasium, the acoustic capabilities concerned with Definition of both Voice and Music are simultaneously required. However, in case of the large-scaled athletic facility, since it was designed with high ceiling-height in view of its characteristics, it forms a Sound Focus and then the sound is concentrating to the specific part, and because the vibration of sound is too loud due to its broad volume, the acoustic defects such as many Echoes are arising. On such viewpoint, based on the drawing of the indoor gymnasium that is scheduled to be built at B County, Chonbuk Province, this Study has proposed such indoor gymnasium equipped with the optimized acoustic condition passing through Acoustic Simulation Phase. As the result of Acoustic Simulation, we could design the indoor gymnasium that equipped with really satisfying acoustic performance 'after' reformation compared with 'before' reformation, and it is considering that such material could be utilized as the fundamental material that brings a curtailment effect of the construction cost and also enables us to improve the acoustic performance, at the stage of planning and designing for the similar sporting facility in the future.
