Purpose - This paper is aimed to analyze the effects of the mandatory closing regulation targeting large retailers, which has been implemented since 2012 to protect small retailers. We examine the changes in consumers' choice of retailers and their purchasing patterns of agri-food following the implementation of such regulation. Research design, data, and methodology - Household spending patterns were identified through the historical data of household food purchase, consumer panel provided by the Rural Development Administration. Clustering was employed to determine the household spending patterns. Moreover, the different household spending patterns before and after the regulation were comparatively studied. The patterns of consumers' choice of retail stores and shopping baskets by the type of retailers, derived from the respective datasets before and after the regulation, were compared to analyze the effects of the regulation. Results -After the regulation, some consumers who used to shop at large retailers before the regulation changed their shopping places to small retailers. However, the product categories that consumers had mainly purchased before the regulation were rarely changed even after the regulation. Conclusions - Although the regulation helped migrate some of the consumers to small retailers, the regulation seemed to have failed to stimulate consumers to purchase the goods, normally bought at large retailers, from traditional markets. In other words, traditional markets are not effective substitutes for regulation-affected retailers.

This study analyzed the isolation effect for a 15-story reinforced concrete (RC) building with regard to changes in the beam-column stiffness ratio and the difference in the vibration period between the superstructure and an isolation layer in order to provide basic data that are needed to devise a framework for the design of isolated RC buildings. First, this analytical study proposes to design RC building frames by securing an isolation period that is at least 2.5 times longer than the natural vibration period of a superstructure and configuring a target isolation period that is 3.0 s or longer. To verify the proposed plan, shaking table tests were conducted on a scaled-down model of 15-story RC building installed with laminated rubber bearings. The experimental results indicate that the tested isolated structure, which complied with the proposed conditions, exhibited an almost constant response distribution, verifying that the behavior of the structure improved in terms of usability. The RC building's response to inter-story drift (which causes structural damage) was reduced by about one-third that of a non-isolated structure, thereby confirming that the safety of such a superstructure can be achieved through the building's improved seismic performance.
The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the educational program of life safety for low grade elementary school students. The objectives of the life safety education were established, and the contents and instructions of the educational program were organized according to the needs of the 560 children and their mothers. Both experimental and control groups were evaluated before, immediately after and 3 weeks after the education in terms of knowledge about safety, attitudes and behaviors. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Twelve contents for safety education consisted of safety for electronic games, playing facility, mobile exercise machines, elevator/escalators, traffic and prevention for injury, pricking/cutting, collision/fall/slippery, drowning, burning, electric shock, food toxicity and child missing/sexual harassment/kidnapping. 2. The score of knowledge for safety, attitude, and behavior of the experimental group was improved after the post-tests. Thus, the educational effects were demonstrated to be significant in all evaluation sections.

In this study, performance based seismic design was performed on the shear wall structural system and the beam-column system as a variable general rebar and seismic rebar, and comparing the capacity of the two models of each system. From nonlinear analyses, the capacity of the shear wall structural system applying seismic rebar has shown a stable behavior after the maximum strength, but there is little difference. Furthermore, both models showed similar capacity between story drift and story shear force and capacity of members. These results are attributed to the fact that the seismic rebar, which is highly ductile under the seismic load applied to the target structure, does not render sufficient capacity.
Recently, many urban traditional houses have been replaced by villas and apartments for the inconvenience of lifestyle. The aim of this study is to survey the present distribution condition, research the extension and alteration, focused on Korean urban traditional houses in Cheongju which is the old city in an inland area, and inquire into the behavior patterns of an aged living alone livelihood and a large household. As a result, in the typical 'ㄱ' types of central inland houses, all the rear and side parts are nearly extended except facades facing court, while the detached houses for an aged living alones and tenants have enlarged rooms, kitchen and 'Daecheong' within the existing wooden framework. We could grasp the enlargement of room, 'Daecheong', corridor, and storage in the layout of the existing house. There are so many alterations such as the stand-up kitchen and a water closet. A new extension on an old house was intensely built for tenants.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference and needs of leisure facilities of residents living in apartment complexes. The questionnaire survey was conducted in the selected apartment complexes, and 676 responses were used for data analysis. The statistical techniques used for data analysis included frequencies, percentage, mean, $X^2$-test, and multiple regression. The major findings were as follows: 1) Subjects needed the diverse leisure facilities such as sports center and resident's self government facilities. And they needed diverse facilities for sports. 2) In terms of location, they needed leisure facilities which was closer to their house. 3) The degree of satisfaction of leisure facilities was lower than neutral. The satisfaction of leisure facilities related with diversity of leisure facilities and program, and poor environment. 4) It was found that the respondents preferred safe and various leisure facilities, and the leisure facilities were exclusively used for the residents only, and the use by non-residents should be charged at the expense. Also, respondents were willing to pay additional fee for the better quality of leisure facilities, and sports leisure facilities congregated in one building were highly desirable.
Eater Seal, the child care experts, observes that children with disability significantly benefit from receiving appropriated care along side their peers. Typically developing children serve as role models from which children with disabilities team age-appropriated communications and social behavior. Therefore the children with disability can actively participate in well-designed child care settings. But unfortunately in Seoul, Korea, only 2% of children with disability are taken care of in child care centers. And even the disabled children at the child care centers are mostly mentally or emotionally disabled because the building, programs and services of the centers are restrictive to the children with severe physical disabilities. This study reviewed Korean domestic physical environment of child care centers for children with disabilities. 15 centers located in Seoul were surveyed. Our survey revealed that the accessibility to buildings is poor. There are many places with difference in height of floors. Also, there are no elevators in all buildings surveyed. Accessibility to toilet is noted as significant problem, especially wet floors in toilets. In a nursing room, a space for psychological rest and special education is needed for children with mental disability. Technical specifications on how to make buildings and facilities accessible for the children with disability should be developed. The goal of this study is to provide basic information to develop domestic design guidelines to ensure that the child care centers are safe, convenient, and usable for everyone possible.
The main scope of this study is to define such system of space composition factor to diversify the interior space of the apartment housing. Staring from the space analysis, identification of the design factors, characters of the anthropometry for the dwelling behavior, and analyzed dimensions of the interior furniture from the market data have uniformly integrated to engage with such system for innovation and diversification of the space design method. The elements of the composition factors are as follows: 1. Structural elements - $\circled1$Bearing wall $\circled2$Ceiling $\circled3$Floor $\circled4$Structural column 2. furniture elements - $\circled1$Fixed furniture $\circled2$Movable furniture $\circled3$Non-bearing wall $\circled4$F1exible wall $\circled5$Void & Solid 3. Finished material elements - $\circled1$Structural material $\circled2$Doub1e shell $\circled3$Color & Tone $\circled4$Lighting system For the design system selected space in restricted in 3way directional axis X,Y,Z to form its volume and direction of the space composition factors. X-axis is stands for horizontal length of the factor, Y-axis is for the space depth, and lastly, Z-axis is for the hieghts of the space based on anthropometris.
Coupling beams posses proper strength, stiffness and ductility capacities to resist efficiently under seismic loads. The strength, stiffness and ductility capacities for special diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beam with a span-to-depth ratio 2.0 or less is higher than those of coupling beam with conventionally reinforced concrete coupling beam. However, diagonally reinforced detailing creates major construction problem. In this study, design alternatives for diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beams were experimentally investigated. The results show that angle reinforced coupling beam(specimen SA) exhibited a better stable behavior in comparison with non-diagonally coupling beams(specimens SB-series) and sustained corresponding drift ratio, peak-to-peak stiffness and cumulative dissipated energy in comparison to diagonally coupling beam(specimen CA).
This study examines the furniture usage behavior of the apartment dwellers in tile city of furniture usage by resident’s characteristics, such as floor space size, household income, the stage of family life cycle and housewife’s age. To this end, interviews were conducted with 304 individuals, either household heads or their spouses living in three residential areas in Seoul. The sample was selected among people living in apartment units with the 30s and 40s pyong of floor space size. The major findings of this study are as fllows ; The furniture and furnishings selected for the study are grouped into four clusters such as conversation-space components, ordinary decoration, high-quality decoration and miscellaneous components. Families in the stage of primary school life cycle were likely to possess fewer furniture and decorations than those in the stage of high school life cycle and in the launching stage. Younger housewives are less likely to possess ordinary and high-quality decorations than the older. Those living in the larger apartment units are likely to decorate their living room in an ornamental rather than functional way, and to possess more ordinary and high-quality decorations than those in the smaller. In this study, the size of floor space appers a variable most powerful to explain the pattern of furniture usage.
