The first objective of this study is to examine the finanacial management practices of rural housewives. The second objective is to determine the effects of sociodemographic characteristics on financial management practices. The Deacon & Firebaugh's model of family resource management framework and previous studies were used to determine the effects, regarding a9e, income, number of family, education level, and farming/nonfarming as independent/input variables, and monthly saving and managerial behavior index as dependent/throughput variables. A sample of 179 rural housewives aged less than 60 was selected from Shihung-Si Gyonggi-Do Province. Results showed that rural housewives more frequently did keeping bills, making purchase-list and verifying purchase need than recording where money spent making financial plan, and evaluating spending. With regard to household debt use, 60% of the sample had debt the most borrower used debt for farming, 73% of borrowers paid for their debt behind the schedule, and the main source of borrowing was NACF (NongHyup). Using installment credit, the rural housewives mainly bought cosmetics. 25% of the sample had credit cards. Average debt was 6, 070, 000 won, and 81% of annual income. In terms of saving, 85% of the sample saved, and 23% of the sample lived with the money after save. The main reasons of saving were for education and marriage of children and emergency. The main saving institutions were NACF and NLCF (ChukHyup). The regression showed that income was negatively associated with monthly saving, and age was identified as the positive determinants of managerial behavior index.
The aims of this study are to classify the life styles of urban housewives, to see their relationship between life style and demorgaphic variables, and also to see the relationship between life style and dietary patterns. This study has been performed by a questionsire about life style, demographic variables and dietary pattern. The selected samples were 475 housewives. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, Duncan test, X-test and F-test. Life style is classified into 4 types: temporary enjoying type, passive irrational type, realistic conservative type, actual progressive type. The housewives who are in temporary enjoying type usually do randomly and don't think seriously something. And they have tendency to enjoy themselves. Therefore they don't have any plan for dietary behavior. The passive irrational type's housewives have no consistancy in their life and they do everything temporarily. The housewives who are in this type have relatively low incom, low level of education and they are high in age. The people who are in realistic conservative type act reasonably and elastically everything. They use convenient food very much, because they are willing to save time to make them. The housewives who are included in actual progressive type are well organized and planned in dietary behavior than others, when they dine out, they eat with family together in general, they usually use only a kind of western sauces and convenient food. They are relatively young, highly educated, and they are high income group. In conclusion realistic conservative type and actual progressive type are both relatively desirable type in dietary behavior, but in temporary enjoying type and passive irrational type, there, have to do some guide and education about managing family resources and dietary behavior.
The purpose of this study is to present a desirable model of memorial rites on the basis of their essential significance, as recognized by middle-aged housewives. This study was based on an interview survey that was conducted with 40 housewives in their 40's and 50's who live in Seoul. The interviews were carried out from August 1, 2009 to October 20, 2009, using a semi-structured questionnaire. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the middle-aged housewives recognized the significance of memorial rites as an expression of their sincerity, or as a cultural demonstration of affection commemorating their ancestors. Secondly, the housewives mentioned possible changes to different memorial rites depending on the will of their children's generation. These included a grafting of different memorial rites between religions, or a shift of the memorial rites to a religious institution or a memorial facility, in addition to maintaining the current practice in one's home. Thirdly, we proposed memorial rites that are carried out in one's home (Confucian, Christian, Confucian plus Catholic, or Confucian plus Buddhist style), a religious institution (Catholic church or Buddhist temple), and a memorial facility (arboretum, graveyard or enshrine facility).
The purpose of this study was to reduce the unemployed housewives' stress and to seek proper strategies to cope with the stress by understanding stress of urban unemployed housewives' caused by financial management. The survey for this study was conducted in the capital city of Korea, Seoul and other major cities. The subjects included housewives in these areas who currently cohabited with their spouses and had at least on child or more. The preliminary and main survey questionnaires were distributed between November 12, 2001 and February 27, 2002. The results of the study were to establish an appropriate policy in order to improve the economic welfare and to develop strategies or related programs in order to overcome financial crisis in the family economy. the major findings were as follows: (1) The stress level of urban unemployed housewives caused by the financial management showed an average of 2.64 out of 5.0 and the level of utilizing strategies to cope with the stress indicated an average of 2.79 out of 5.0 (2) There were significant relationship between the stress caused by the financial management and the strategies of overcoming the stress indicated positive correlation(r=.378). (3) Relative contributor among independent variables to cope with stress was analysed and at the second phase in the process of the analysis, the subjective variables appeared to be significant variables to contribute to cope with the stress.
The purpose of this study is to investigate some related factors which influence subjective economic well-being of the urban housewives, based on family cohesion and adaptability. Questionnaires were distributed to the 1,800 housewives residing in Seoul. The 1261 data obtained were analyzed by Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Multiple Regression. The major findings of this study were summarized as follows. (1) There were significant differences on the economic well-being of the urban housewives according to the social demographic variables, the objective variables, the perceptions of the subjective variables, the conjugal variables, the perceptions of the subjective economics well-being by the urban housewives were in the rank of the perceptions of the subjective(R²=.37), the objective variable(R²=.33) and the family cohesion and adaptability(R²=.28). Based on the above findings, this study concludes that the intermediary variables. such as family cohesion and adaptability are essential elements for comprehending the urban housewives’economic well-being. Accordingly in has been found that the value of family remains important factors to guide in despite the radical changes. If greater attentions should be directed to the social welfare, the quality of family life could be improved and stabilized.
This study was carried out to give some help for housewives recognizing the desirable purchase of processed foods and food additives. This results were abtained as follows; In case of purchase action for processed foods of housewives confirmation of manufacturing date was the highest point(4.62). When housewives bought processed foods they considered the taste of them as first, and frequencies of processed foods intake showed the ratio of 46.6%, also it was shown to be used once a week. The order for use of processed foods were milk, milk products(butter, cheese, yoghurt, lactic bacterium beverage) 40.2% >canned foods 22.6% >meat products(ham, sausage, bacon) 20.9% > jelled fish 16.3%. Most of housewives wanted to have the knowledge and information for food additives at the highest point(4.11). The interest about food additives of housewives was shown to the order of synthetic preservative 3.86 >chemical seasoning 3.74 >synthetic sweetener 3.59 >synthetic coloring agent 3.53. Also, it was shown to be thought that the hazard factors effected on food safety were agricultural chemical residue(30.9%), environmental pollution(25.2, food additives(23.0%), and microorganism contamination(20.9%).
This study was to investigate the consumption pattern, behaviors, and motivational attitudes related to fruit and vegetables. Data were collected from 344 mothers whose children were attending an elementary school and a middle school in Kimcheon. The average vegetable expenses were under 10,000 won per week. The frequency of purchasing vegetables was 2-3 times a week. Housewives usually bought the vegetables at local markets and grand shopping centers. As for buying vegetables, housewives considered the organic vegetables, preference, price, and nutrition in order. In the family, the vegetables were favored by husbands most and by sons least. The average fruit expenses were under 10,000 won per week. The frequency of purchasing fruit was 2-3 times a week. Housewives usually bought the fruit at local markets and grand shopping centers. As for buying fruit, housewives considered preference, price, and nutrition in order. The fruit were favored by all members most and by husbands least. Housewives identified barriers to increasing vegetables and fruit consumption, including preference for other foods, lack of availability, cost, and time and effort to prepare. Several implications for nutrition interventions were suggested. First, a key motivation for these women was eating healthy food when they are pregnant, suggesting a persuasive appeal to use in interventions. Second, review of the women's current behaviors led to an identification of four specific behaviors that had the most potential for increasing overall consumption. Finally, the findings suggested ways in which nutrition interventions could address each of the barriers identified.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the housewives' needs for educational program. In this study the needs lot housewives educational program are consisted on 3 areas ; 1. program contents, 2. program management and 3. program activization plan. For the survey and statistical analysis the questionares from 445 full-time housewives who participate in educational program at present are used. The results of this study are following; 1, in the area of program contents the needs for housing/health, nutrition, family life planning for elderly stage and enhancement of parents-children relationship are very high. This contents are very related with research topics of human ecology. So the researcher of our science are expected to be involved more in the related program development and actualization in the field. 2. in the area of program management the needs for the concret management process such as human resource management and education period are much higher than the educational provision. 3. in the area of program activization the systematization of the program incording with program level is most needed. 4. the housewive who are keeping the social characteristics such as social orientation, the motivation of social integration, the participation in the social-oriented educational program have higher needs for the most entire program contents, management and activization plan.
The aim of this study is to analyze the attitude of family economic management in urban and rural household and how it effect to each household. It was investigated the attitude of housewife for the family economy planning purchase, consumption and utilization of the resources by questionnaire. For the analysis, usable respones(410 from urban and 264 from rural housewife) were verified. The result of investigation if as follows ; 1. the housewives in urban and rural have attitude of purposal purchase in general. the information for the new products and prices are usually got6 by mass media. the urban wives keep records more than rural housewives. 2. They have reasonable behavior in purchase but when they select the goods, urban housewives prefer to the goods made by well-known company and rural housewives consider the prices. Otherwise the rural housewives take more the cooperative buying than urban housewives. 3. In urban they save some money regularly but in rural they can rarely save. the housewife manages all money for living expenses in urban, but in rural they do not so. 4. Human resources and nonhuman resorces are utilized in rural house better than the urban but especially household equipments are not used completely in both case.
This study was designed to demonstrate the wide scope of the home production activities. The purpose of this study are first to identify the factors affecting various near environmental home production activities second to examine the effect of the near environmental home production activities on the life satisfaction. Qustionnaires from 729 housewives in Seoul are analyzed in this study. The major findings are as follows: 1. Homeproduction activities with neighbors are influenced by the housewives' physical health. In the case of adult children family life cycle number of family members etc. are influential variables. In the case of step-parents and housewives' parents the number of family members family life-cycle etc. are influential variables. In the case of adult sisters housewives' birth order is influential variables. Home production activities utilizing facilities in the near environment are influenced by high-rise apartment housing tenure etc. Production activities through the participation in the organizations are influenced by family life cycle and similiarity to neighbors. 2. Production activities through the participation in the organizations home production activities with adult sisters and brothers and home production activities with adult childern have positive effect and home production activities utilizing facilities in the near environment have negative effect on the life satisfaction of the housewives. And the near environmental satisfaction affects on the life satisfaction of the housewives. Therefore the result of this study indicates that including the near environmental home production activities to the home production is rational.
