  • Most countries have their own culture that presents different types of behaviour. The employees' specific ways of working, according to each country, influence its organisation, thus cultural differences have become an essential issue in operating management. Therefore, this study explored how the different cultures based on Hofstede's paradigm interact within the specific Korean context. This study examined how cultural related HRM practices were enacted in the Korean hotel industry, how the frameworks of Hofstede's model impact the employee outcomes, including the concept of organisational justice. This study followed a quantitative approach which relied on a positivist paradigm to evaluate the different HRM practices at hotel workplaces with the view of employees. This study gathered a survey on 601 hotel employees in the deluxe sector. The analysis of quantitative data was undertaken using SPSS version 23.0 software and AMOS 23.0 to achieve the research aim for the study. This study contributes new findings to the research literature. The results of this study showed how Confucianism also plays a predominant role in understanding Korean culture, more than the Hofstede's original four dimensions of culture.

  • This study examines whether the two variables that encompass the number of rooms sold and occupancy, as independent variables, positively affect a total of revenue generated from the hotel industry. Using a simple regression analysis and a standard multiple regression analysis, the study evaluates if the two independent variables play an important role in influencing a total of revenue in the hotel industry. A finding tells that researchers need consider a removal of the occupancy rate for a better and accurate prediction. It is expected that this study will contribute to a theoretical development of a study group that focuses on what determinants enable to improve a financial performance in the hotel sector.

  • The purposes of this study were twofold. First, it aimed to develop the olive-oil liaison (Roux). Second, it tried to examine customer perceptions of the olive-oil liaison compared with commonly used butter liaison in hotel restaurants. The theme of the study was derived from the present trend of pursuing healthy food so-called 'well-being'. As a result, the extra virgin olive-oil liaison(Roux) with the optimal ratio of 1.4 : 1 (flour: olive-oil) was developed through repeated sensory tests. The findings also showed that customers prefer products with the olive-oil liaison to products with butter liaison in terms of satisfaction and intention to re-purchase.

  • This study's objective is to use the construal-level theory (CLT) to explore the effect of the utility of online travel reviews on tourists' perception. To accomplish this goal, online travel reviews are divided into two different categories based on concreteness, and the usefulness of each review is compared with the temporal dimension of psychological distance. The results show that close future tourists are more influenced by concrete reviews than abstract reviews; however, the far future tourists are more influenced by abstract reviews than concrete reviews. Based on these results, theoretical and practical implications are discussed, and suggestions are made for future research.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of job embeddedness on job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention in the food and beverage division of hotels. In addition, this study sought to identify the effects of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on turnover intention. Based on the literature reviews, five hypotheses were tested: job embeddedness was positively related to job satisfaction and organizational commitment and negatively related to turnover intention and job satisfaction and organizational commitment were negatively related to turnover intention. The subjects evaluated in this study were employees of the food and beverage division of five or four stars hotels in Seoul. Five hundred questionnaires were distributed and 293 were collected from July 1, 2009 to August 31, 2009, using convenience sampling method. After removing useless questionnaires, a total of 250 questionnaires (five-stars hotel 177, four-stars hotel 73) were analyzed using the factor analysis, a reliability test, and structural equation modeling analysis. The results revealed that job embeddedness was positively related to job satisfaction (t=8.762), organizational commitment (t=5.364) and negatively related to turnover intention (t=-3.500). Therefore, hypothesis I, II and III were accepted. However, job satisfaction (t=-.933) and organizational commitment (t=-1.923) were not negatively related to turnover intention. Therefore, hypothesis IV and V were rejected.

  • The temporary tax deduction on investment cutting the corporate income tax within 10% of the amount of investment is aimed at stimulating the investment for economic activity. 25 business sectors are applied to this tax law and in tourism, the accommodation registered by tour promotion law and international convention plan business belong to it. I'd like to mention the problem of the temporary tax deduction on investment amount for hotels and suggest better solutions. This tax law is so temporary applied that we shouldn't get tax deduction after June 30, 2002. So, we can't get income tax deduction on the investment out of the available period. And further more this tax law has a rule not real investment but solely new project investment for hotels. There are numbers of difference between real investment and new project investment. The amount of investment is based on an object of acquisition taxation. And also there are numbers of difference between real investment and an object of acquisition taxation. For example, landscape construction is a great part of hotel construction but it's not an object of acquisition taxation. For running hotel business, we also need lots of equipments such as linens utensils for restaurant and decorations for hotel interior. But these are also excluded from this tax law. As you know, these equipments can be regarded as product equipments in manufacture industry. Therefore we should take the specificity of hotel investment into consideration and expand the role of the temporary income tax deduction on investment amount for hotels.
