  • A pilot plant, which is simplified the hot water heating control system of a large scale residential building, is used to investigate the effects of control methods and operating conditions on the system performance and to compare control characteristics. Digital variable structure controller(DVSC) and digital PI controller are implemented to control the speed of the circulating pump for the pilot plant using PC. For the DVSC, a control algorithm is suggested, which using a nonlinear sliding surface and a PID sliding surface outside and inside of output error boundary layer, respectively. Smith predictor algorithm is used for the compensation of long dead time. The suggested DVSC yields improved control performance compared with existing DVSC using linear sliding surface only. the system responses with the suggested DVSC shows good responses without overshoot for various operating conditions and robust under external disturbances compared with digital PI controller.

  • Energy consumption data are surveyed and measured to develop energy demand models for hospital buildings as part of a complete package. Daily consumption profiles for electricity, heating, cooling and hot water are surveyed for 14 carefully chosen hospitals to establish energy demand patterns for a time span of a year. Then the hourly demand patterns of the 4 loads are field-measured for different seasons and statistically analyzed to provide higher resolution models. Used in conjunction with energy demand models for other types of buildings, the high resolution of 8760 hour energy demand models for a hospital for a typical year will serve as building blocks for the comprehensive model that allows the estimation of the combined loads for arbitrary mixtures of buildings.

  • Simulation on the hot water ONDOL heating system was made in order to investigate the variation of room temperature and specific fuel consumption of boiler. Heat balance equation was derived by response factors and solved implicitly. Variation of room temperature and specific fuel consumption of boiler were calculated with respect to the thickness of room floor, the absorptivity of wall for solar radiation, on-off temperature range of boiler and air exchange. The results show that specific fuel consumption of boiler is independent of the thickness of room floor and decreases with increasing the absorptivity of wall and on-off temperature range of boiler. However, it increases with increasing the air exchange. They also show that, when the absorptivity and on-off temperature range of boiler are increased, the amplitudes of room temperature variation increase.

  • Solar assisted heat pump with freon circulating system has been developed. Revising the cool chamber(flower storage) with the solar thermal hot water producing system, the more amount of hot water can be produced, which can be even used for room panel heating. The compressor was cooled by water jaket instead of air cooled so that the system energy efficiency was improved quite well.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the healing loss and the heavy metal residues such as copper, zinc, manganese, cadmium and lead In porcine visceras by inductively coupled argon plasma spectrometer(ICP), and to probe changes when porcine visceras were boiling In water treatment(BWT), heating in autoclave treatment (HAT) and heating In oil treatment (HOT) . The range of heating loss on porcine viscera were BWT(23.11∼34.53%) , HAT(18.48∼28.00%) and HOT(14.20∼25.22%)and the heart tissue were higher and liver were lower than those of the other tissues. The total value of heavy metal residues in large intestine, small intestine, heart, kidney, liver and stomach tissue were 11.298${\pm}$5.302 ppm, 27.825${\pm}$8. 177 ppm, 16.756${\pm}$6.334 ppm 21.107${\pm}$6.057 ppm, 25.369 ${\pm}$ 10.164 ppm and 12.611 ${\pm}$5.513 ppm, respectively. Heavy metal residues in porcine visceras tended to decrease according to heating methods and the variety viscera, and the change of total heavy metal residues on BWT, HAT and HOT were 4.16∼32.57%, 12.01∼28.09% and 9.60∼25.76%, respectively. The decrease of lead element of mean value were 21.76% and copper, zinc, manganese and cadmium element were 18.00∼ 18.16%. The change of heavy metal residues were not significant in the porcine visceras(P>0.05), and the these were significantly correlated among the three heating method(P < 0.05).

  • The change in color of vegetables containing chlorophyll on cooking has been of concern to food scientists. This experiment was initiated to determine the effect of different heating methods and time on the chlorophyll of green pepper. Peppers were heated at 100 C for 5, 10, and 15 min by using boiling water, steam and hot air and for 1, 2 and 3 min in microwave oven. The results showed that chlorophyll content decreased with increasing heating time. Among the heat treatments employed steaming gave the greatest effect and boiling water was the next. Hot air and microwave treated samples changed only small amount of chlorophyll. Generally pheophytin formation was increased with decreasing chlorophyll content.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the situation of energy consumption and its characteristics in large scale store. The related survey is carried out in large scale store to investigate the energy consumption and energy use trend of heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments and others. The area of large scale discount store is about $65000m^2$, located in Daejeon. For Annual Energy Analysis of building, We surveyed used energy for 1 year and simulated using a building energy simulation(TRNSYS 16). The results of this study are as follows. 1)The amount of annual total energy consumption are 18615.244MWh/yr(286.4KWh/$m^2yr$), The rate of heating, cooling and base energy(for hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments, cooking and others) is 3054MWh/yr(47kWh/$m^2yr$), 5660.09MWh/yr(87.08kWh/$m^2yr$), 9900.47MWh/yr(152.31KWh/$m^2yr$) respectively. The total used energy is higher than others building in Korea. Especially, The energy consumption of large scale store is very depends on operating period and pattern such as space temperature, occupancy, lighting system, equipments operating schedule and etc.

  • In order to verify and take measures against a variety of troubles which cannot be predicted in a well-controlled laboratory, it is necessary that solar system should be experimented in an actual situation during a long period. Through this experiment it can be also understood how the load pattern and operational conditions expected in a design process become different to those in the actual running, which can be applied to a new system design. We installed 6 kW solar hot water heating system with a shower facility and operated during 7 months. As a result, average 8.3 persons took a shower a day; solar fraction is 71% and total collector efficiency is 40% during the periods from March to September. We confirmed several troubles encountered in the actual situation and considered practical center-measures.
