Effect of Mixing and Placing in Hot Weather on Hardened Concrete Properties

  • Portland cement concrete exposed to high temperatures during mixing, transporting, casting, finishing, and curing can develop undesirable characteristics. Applicable requirements for such the hot weather concrete differ from country to country and government agencies. The current study is an attempt at evaluating the hardened properties of the concrete exposed to hot weather in fresh state. First of all, this study reviews the current state of understanding and practice for hot weather concrete placement in US and then roadway sites with suspected hot weather concrete problems were investigated. Core samples were obtained from the field locations and were analyzed by standard resonance frequency analysis and the boil test. Based on the results, there does not appear to be systematic evidence of frequent cracking problems related to high temperature placement. Thus, the suspicious deteriorations which are referable to hot weather concreting would be due to other factors.

  • The government is encouraging the notice of obligatory reclaimed asphalt as a result of the economic and social positioning of green growth to reduce the amount of waste resources and to solve natural resource problems by recycling continuously generated waste resources. However, it is necessary to develop application guideline for each application to apply reclaimed asphalt to the site because quality control of the reclaimed asphalt is difficult and the specifications are ambiguous as well. Therefore, in this study, the mix design, quality test, performance test, and finite element analysis about reclaimed Asphalt Pavement were conducted to develop application guideline for reclaimed hot asphalt. The mix design was carried out for the comparative general hot mix asphalt mixture, the reclaimed hot mix asphalt mixture using the additive, and the reclaimed hot mix asphalt mixture without the additive. Indirect tensile strength and tensile strength ratio tests were used to characterize the reclaimed hot mix asphalt mixture. Using the results of dynamic modulus test and FWD test for KPRP analysis and finite element analysis, the performance life was evaluated for general pavement and pavement using recycled aggregate. Finally, the life cycle cost analysis was used to compare and analyze the economics of reclaimed asphalt concrete pavement.

  • High strength concrete was placed at the mass concrete slabs, walls, pillars of RC building from August till August. And the construction is going on now. This paper presents mix design, production, quality control and experience with field application of high strength ready-mixed concrete under hot weathered conditions. It is shown to be possible to produce high strength concrete that has 45MPa compressive strength using superplasticizer and cement replaced with 20% fly-ash with appropriate control.

  • To study of binder and fine aggregate a lot of replacement fly-ash concrete, initial characteristics, standard environment of curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$, hot-weather environment of curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$, . Flesh concrete tested slump. air contest and Hardening concrete valuated setting period of form, day of age 1, 3, 5. 7, 10, 28 compression strength in sealing curing. Purpose of study is consultation materials in field that variety of fly-ash replacement concrete mix proportion comparison and valuation. (1) Experiment result age 28day compression strength more higher plan concrete then standard environment in curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$, , most strength F43 is hot-weather environment in curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$, replacement binder 25%, fine aggregate 15%. (2) Hot-weather environment replacement a mount of fly-ash is a same of plan concrete setting period of form. Age 28day compression strength replacement a mount of fly-ash more hot-weather concrete then plan concrete.

농촌 도로 포장용 준고온 아스팔트 콘크리트 적용 평가 (Evaluation for Application of Warm-mix Asphalt Concrete for Rural Road Pavement)

  • The asphalt pavement industry has introduced the warm-mix asphalt (WMA) as a mean of energy saving and environmentally safe technology, because the WMA mixture can be mixed and compacted at 30℃ lower than conventional hot-mix asphalt (HMA) at 160℃ or higher. The implementation of WMA can be a good option for paving operations for rural road in remote place, not only due to energy saving and environmental issues, but also lower working temperature. Using WMA technology, the cooled-down asphalt mixture can be still compacted to meet the quality requirement in narrow winding rural road in remote places. Therefore, this study is designed to evaluate engineering properties of WMA binders and concretes, which were prepared for rural road pavement. The objective of the study was to evaluate and suggest proper fundamental properties level of the WMA concrete for rural road pavement. The kinematic viscosity test result indicated that the WMA binders used in this study were effective for compaction at lower temperature, i.e., at 115℃, compared to the HMA binder. According to strength property analyses, it was found that the WMA concrete was acceptable for rural road pavement even though it was compacted at 30℃ lower level. Since the deformation strength (SD) of 3.2 MPa was found to satisfy rutting and cracking resistance minimum guidelines, this value was suggested as a minimum SD value for rural road pavement, considering lack of maintenance program for rural area.

폐타이어 재활용 아스팔트 콘크리트의 역학적 특성 (Mechanical Properties of Hot Mix Crumb Rubber Modified Asphalt Concrete Using Waste Tire)

  • 본 연구는 폐타이어 고무분말을 이용한 아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물의 성질에 대한 실험적 연구결과를 나타내고 있다. 기존의 재래식 아스팔트 혼합물과 폐타이어 고무분말 첨가 아스팔트 혼합물의 성상을 비교하기 위하여 다양한 물성 시험을 실시하였다. 고온에서 아스팔트 혼합물의 소성변형에 대한 저항성 평가인 휠트랙킹 시험결과 고무분말을 함유한 아스팔트 혼합물이 기존의 재래식 아스팔트 혼합물보다 약 50% 정도 상회하는 결과를 보였다. 또한, 표층용 아스팔트 혼합물을 유사한 기상조건과 하중을 가하여 아스팔트 혼합물의 내구성을 측정하는 라벨링 시험을 실시하였다. 시험결과 고무분말을 함유한 아스팔트 공시체가 재래식에 비하여 약 15%정도 우수하였다. 따라서, 향후 폐타이어의 적극적인 도로용 재료로서의 활용은 공학적인 측면에서 뿐만 아니라 폐자원의 리싸이클링 측면에서 고려될 때 향후 커다란 이득이 될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

  • 본 연구는 슬럼프 감소, 연행 공기 부족, 건조수축 균열, 강도감소 등 굳지 않은 콘크리트와 굳은 콘크리트의 성질에 대한 타설시 고온의 악영향에 대한 원인분석을 실시하고 이를 경감시키기 위한 감수제, 공기연행제, 지연제 등의 화학적 혼화제와 플라이 애쉬, 고로 슬래그 등의 무기질 혼화재의 다양한 적용이 검토되었다. 즉, 서중 콘크리트의 품질향상을 위한 다양한 콘크리트 배합이 설계되고 각 배합에서의 굳지 않은 콘크리트 및 굳은 콘크리트 에 대한 영향이 분석되고 몇 가지의 최적 배합이 도출되었다.

  • PURPOSES : Hot-mix asphalt(HMA) concretes show a trend of strength increase at low temperature due to binder stiffness increase, but strength decrease below a ceratin low temperature. This is due to the differential thermal contraction(DTC) which is induced by a significant difference in coefficients of thermal contraction between aggregate and asphalt which is coated around the aggregate. This DTC damage is well known to occur in HMA concrete, but is not yet investigated in warm-mix asphalt(WMA) concretes. METHODS : To evaluate DTC damage on WMA in this study, the flexural strength($S_f$) of WMA concretes, which were produced at $30{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ lower temperature, was evaluated in comparison with that of HMA at -5, -15 and $-25^{\circ}C$. RESULTS : Most of WMA and HMA mixtures showed flexural strength increase down to $-15^{\circ}C$ and decrease below $-15^{\circ}C$. this type of strength reduction below $-15^{\circ}C$ can e explained as the effect of differential thermal contraction that is a consequence of the large difference in coefficients of thermal contraction between aggregate and asphalt. the property reduction of WMA is similar the result of previous works dealt with HMA mixtures. CONCLUSIONS : Even though there is some differences by materials used, the WMA concretes showed a significantly lower DTC damage than HMA concrete at low temperature at ${\alpha}$=0.05 level.

재생첨가제를 적용한 순환 아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물의 공용성능 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Performance Evaluation of Reclaimed Asphalt Concrete Mixture with Rejuvenator)

  • 국내에서는 폐아스팔트를 통한 순환골재를 생산, 도로 자원으로 재활용하여 폐자원 활용에 활용하고 있다. 하지만 정부부처에서 제시한 순환아스팔트 의무사용량 40%를 아스팔트 포장에 적용할 경우, 품질저하가 발생하고 현재 제한적인 사용이 이루어지고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구는 순환골재 30%를 혼입한 순환아스팔트에, 재생첨가제를 사용하여 제작한 혼합물에 대한 품질 시험 및 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 품질시험 및 성능평가를 통해 일반 가열 아스팔트를 대체하여 순환아스팔트를 사용하는데 문제가 없는지 검토하였으며 실험 결과, 일반 가열 아스팔트와 순환아스팔트의 값은 유사하여 대체하여 사용하는데 문제가 없음을 알 수 있었다. 순환아스팔트를 사용함으로써 경제성을 높이고 폐자원을 활용할 수 있는 장점이 있으며 추후 연구를 통하여 재생첨가제와 순환골재의 적정비율을 선정하여 순환골재 혼입비율을 높이고, 보다 경제적이고 환경친화적인 순환 아스팔트의 개발이 요구된다.

Purpose of study is consultation materials in field that variety of fly-ash replacement concrete mix proportion comparison and valuation. (1) Setting test result, fly-ash ratio of replacement higher delay totting time. Same volume of fly-ash ratio of replacement is lower fly-ash ratio of replacement fine aggregate delay setting time. Setting test in curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$ over twice fast setting in curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$ and all specimen setting delay in curing temperature $5^{\circ}C$. F40 specimen end of setting about 30 time. (2) Experiment result age 28day compression strength more fisher plan concrete then standard environment in curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$, cold weather environment in curing temperature $5^{\circ}C$, most strength F43 is hot-weather environment in curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$ replacement binder 25%, fine aggregate 15%. (3) Hot-weather environment replacement a mount of fly-ash is a same of plan concrete setting period of form. Age 28day compression strength replacement a mount of fly-ash more hot-weather concrete then plan concrete.
