Background: PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD) had a great impact on health care workers during the COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019, COVID-19). Better knowledge of the prevalence of PTSD and its risk factors is a major public health problem. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence and important risk factors of PTSD among medical staff during the COVID-19. Methods: The databases were searched for studies published during the COVID-19, and a PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis) compliant systematic review (PROSPERO-CRD 42021278970) was carried out to identify articles from multiple databases reporting the prevalence of PTSD outcomes among medical staff. Proportion random effect analysis, I2 statistic, quality assessment, subgroup analysis, and sensitivity analysis were carried out. Results: A total of 28 cross-sectional studies and the PTSD results of doctors and nurses were summarized from 14 and 27 studies: the prevalences were 31% (95% CI [confidence interval, CI]: 21%-40%) and 38% (95% CI: 30%-45%) in doctors and nurses, respectively. The results also showed seven risks (p < 0.05): long working hours, isolation wards, COVID-19 symptoms, nurses, women, fear of infection, and pre-existing mental illness. Two factors were of borderline significance: higher professional titles and married. Conclusion: Health care workers have a higher prevalence of PTSD during COVID-19. Health departments should provide targeted preventive measures for medical staff away from PTSD.

Methods: Staffing grades and their inpatient nursing fees as of the first quarter of 2022 were analyzed. Nurse managers and staff nurses answered surveys about the current and appropriate staffing levels, working days, and monthly salary. A total of 101 nurse managers and 588 staff nurses working in general wards at tertiary hospitals and general hospitals participated in the study. Results: The results showed that grade 1 staffing was found in 73.3% of tertiary hospitals and 63.7% of general hospitals. The current staffing ratios of tertiary hospitals and general hospitals were 1:9.3 and 1:10.4, respectively. The appropriate staffing ratios according to nurse managers and staff nurses at tertiary hospitals were 1:7.6 and 1:7.0, respectively, and 1:8.7 and 1:8.8 in general hospitals, respectively. The average estimated annual working days of staff nurses were 235.2 days in tertiary hospitals and 240.0 days in general hospitals. The median monthly salary for staff nurses was 4.957 million won in tertiary hospitals and 4.140 million won in general hospitals. The new staffing grade system was suggested from 1:6 (Grade 1) to 1:12 (Grade 5). The new inpatient nursing fee schedules were recommended to be paid based on nursing hours per patient day of each grade. Conclusion: The new staffing grade and inpatient nursing fee schedules are expected to increase staffing levels, improve the quality of nursing care, and provide a better work environment for nurses.
Background : This study is to identify the inappropriate hospital services for elderly inpatients over 65 years in general hospital with acute care functioning. Consequently elderly inpatient care and the management of long-term care facilities are key issues for current government health policy. Method : The survey was conducted for two months for all inpatients over 65 in 7 general hospitals, 6 work sampling days randomly selected. In each survey day, the subjective judgement by medical staff on the degree of acute care needs and by nursing unit manager on hospital services of each inpatients was also conducted. Result : The total number of cases collected are 2,541 elderly inpatients, according to subjective judgements by medical staff on inpatient condition. However 46.8% of cases are turned out to be non-acute care group. The frequency of medical services provided to non-acute group are 2~3 vital sign checks per day 78.2%, IV injection 40.1%, antibiotics medication 20.2%. Conclusion : Lots of elderly patients' who are staving in acute hospitals, at present need to be transferred to long-term care facilities. However, there was been shortage of long-term care facilities. It is expected to identify the need of elderly inpatients and therefore, to provide cost-effective, appropriate and good quality health services to elderly inpatients depending on their needs.
High turnover rate of nurses working in the hospitals is one of the serious problems in nursing society at the present time which can result in reducing the economic condition of hospital and providing low quality nursing care. This study was designed identify the causes and turnover rate of 248 clinical staff nurses in relation to their rewards and incentives in 6 hospitals located in Seoul from Oct.1 to Oct. 20, 1975. Questionnaires and analyzing items were formulated on the basic of Mallow's hierarchy of basic needs which were grouped in three categories such as safety and social and psychological rewards and incentives. The data were analyzed by means of mean, Chi square, Percentage and F- ratio. The following results were obtained: 1) There were 69% of respondents who have definitely decided or hoped to leave the hospital. 2) Those who are in the range of 26 to 30 years of age showed the strongest desire to leave the hospital. 3) There was no significant difference between those who want to leave the hospital and those who want to remain in relation to age, educational background, past experience and expecting period of clinical work. However, the married nurses tend to remain in the hospital than the single. 4) When the rewards scores in the three categories were calculated, psychological rewards were placed in the first rank by the mean score 14.09 ; and each of safety rewards and social rewards were 9.06 and 4.84. When the scores in three categories were compared it was found that there was significant difference. (F〈0.01).
Purpose: This study was done to assess the educational needs that should be considered in developing curriculum for staff in charge of public health services in public hospitals. Methods: The participants in this study were staff in charge of public health services in 130 public hospitals. The Borich's Needs Assessment Model which analyzed the relation of 'required competence level' and 'present competence level', was utilized. Data were collected from October to November 2007 using a structure self-report questionnaire. The return rate was 66.9%. The Cronbach's alpha score was 0.959. Results: The mean scores for 'required competence level', 'present competence level' and Borich's need were 4.02, 3.44, and 2.30 respectively. According to public health service items, 'strategies to recognize the present condition and analyze problems' had the highest score for Borich's need, but 'establishment of annual or monthly objectives' had the lowest score for Borich's need. Conclusion: Education was found to be very important for staff carrying out public health services. Ultimately the results of this study may be utilized to develop education program for staff carrying out public health services in public hospitals.

Purpose: The purpose of this study lies in investigating nursing and medical staff perceptions on the importance of surgical patient safety protocol, teamwork, and patient safety culture, and how their grasp of the factors affects the degree of their performance of the protocol. Methods: A survey was conducted on 249 nurses and medical staff participating in the operating rooms of one higher general hospital in Seoul, using a 5-point scale self-reported questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were used. Results: Operating room nurses yielded the highest scores on both the importance of the patient safety protocol and its performance. In patient safety culture, the operating medical staff yielded significantly higher scores than those of operating room nurses. Perception of the importance of the patient safety protocol and teamwork had a significant effect on the nurses' complete performance of the protocol. Conclusion: It is important to create a safety culture, where all the staff can actively and freely communicate with one another through team-based training programs. By enhancing teamwork and patient safety culture, it will be possible to establish the surgical patient safety protocol and to improve the performance of the protocol by health professionals.
Background : The doctors' strike was not only a manmade disaster but also a chance to apply a new pattern of emergency medical service for patients. We hope to propose a new pattern of emergency medical service by comparing the patterns of emergency medical service given by resident and staff during the doctors' strike. Methods : We reviewed the medical records of patients who received emergency medical service in the Emergency Department(ED) of Deagu Catholic University Hospital during 3 days a week prior to the residents' strike (July 21-23, 2000) with those of patients receiving emergency medical service during the first 3 days of the residents' strike (July 28-30, 2000). We evaluated the patient's severity, the cause of the ED visit, the performance on the laboratory study, ECG, and radiological study, the disposition, and the length of ED stay. Also, we compared the collected data by presenting doctor and by patient's severity. Results : The staff performed fewer tests admitted fewer emergent and non-emergent patients than the residents. Also, the length of ED stay was shorter in both the emergent (212.76 vs. 321.40 minutes) and the non-emergent groups (117.68 vs. 171.39 minutes) for patients presenting to staff. Conclusion : It is desirable that emergency medical service is given by staff, not by resident.
This study is executed to investigate convergent factors to job burnout(MBI-GS: Maslach Bunout Inventory-General Survey) among hospital administrative staff. The survey was administered to 201 staff from 9 general hospitals located in J area from Jul. 3rd, 2017 to Jul. 29th, 2017. The structured self-administered questionaries were used. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis shows the following results. The MBI-GS of respondents turned out to be significantly higher in following groups: a group in which Organizational Commitment Questionnaire(OCQ) is lower, a group in which Type A Behavior Pattern(TABP) is higher, a group in which depression(CES-D: Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale) are higher. The results show explanatory power of 52.1%. The results of the study indicate that the efforts, to increase OCQ, and to decrease TABP and CES-D, are required to improve the MBI-GS among hospital administrative staff. The results are expected to be useful for the program and human resource management to related to the MBI-GS among HAS. In the following study, the analysis of structural equation modeling about additional factors of the MBI-GS among hospital administrative staff will be needed.
