Adaptive Scanning for H.264/AVC Intra Coding

  • In this letter, an adaptive scanning that improves intra coding efficiency in the H.264/AVC standard is proposed. The proposed adaptive scanning utilizes the prediction directions (modes) that include the horizontal and vertical edge information in a block. Depending on the prediction directions, the proposed method uses three scanning methods: zigzag scanning, horizontal scanning, and vertical scanning. In the proposed method, horizontal and vertical scanning are used in vertical and horizontal prediction modes, respectively, and the normal zigzag scanning in the H.264 standard is used in all other intra prediction modes. The proposed method reduces the bit rate by approximately 2.5% compared with H.264/AVC, without the degradation of video quality.

Horizontal-parallax-only Optical Scanning Holography with an Electronic Low-pass Filter

  • We propose a novel technique that records the horizontal-parallax-only (HPO) hologram of a real object using optical scanning holography (OSH). The proposing HPO-OSH is composed of a conventional OSH and an electronics low pass filter. When we scan an object along vertical direction before horizontal direction, the electronic low pass filter filters the vertical fringes with preserving horizontal fringes and gives an HPO hologram. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to record the HPO hologram using OSH without either truncation of the scanning beam or digital post processing.

  • When conscious and unconscious exploring information of space-visitors which is contained in the information acquired in the process of seeing any space is analyzed, it can be found what those visitors pick up as factors in the space for its selection as visual information in order to put it into action. This study, with the object of the space reproduced in three dimensions from the cafe which was visited for conversation, has analyzed the process of acquiring space-information by sex to find out the features of scanning path, findings of which are the followings. First, the rate of scanning type of males was "Combination (50.5%)- Circulation (31.0%) and that of females "Horizontal (32.5%) - Combination (32.1%)", which shows that there was a big difference by sex in the scanning path which took place in the process of observing any space. Second, when the features of continuous observation frequency by sex is looked into, the trends of increased "horizontal" scanning and decreased "Combination" scanning of both showed the same as the frequency of continuous observations increased, while in case of "Circulation" scanning, that of females was found to decrease but that of males showed the aspect of confusion. Third, the 'Combination' scanning of males was found strong at the short observation time with three times of continuous observation frequency defined as "Attention Concentration" while the distinct feature was seen that the scanning type was dispersed to "combination-circulation" as the frequency of continuous observation increased. Females start the information acquirement with "combination-circulation" but in the process of visual appreciation they showed a strong "Horizontal" These scanning features can be defined as those by sex for acquiring space information and therefore are very significant because they are fundamental studies which will enable any customized space-design by sex.

  • 도로교통 안전진단에 있어 도로의 형상분류를 통한 도로 선형 및 횡단면 데이터의 추출은 매우 중요한 작업이다. 기존의 조사원에 의한 도로안전진단은 많은 시간과 비용이 요구되는 반면 도로안전진단을 위한 다양한 정보를 제공하지 못한다는 단점이 있다. 따라서, 레이저 스캐닝 장치를 장착한 차량측량시스템을 이용, 수치사진측량시스템 기술을 활용하여 자동으로 도로형상을 분류하고, 도로 선형 및 횡단면 데이터를 추출하는 방안이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 이를 위해 모바일 레이저 스캐닝 데이터를 취득하여 처리하고, 이를 통해 도로 선형 및 횡단면 데이터를 추출할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고, GPS-VAN 을 이용 취득된 모바일 레이저 스캐닝 데이터를 처리, 도로 선형 및 횡단면 데이터를 추출하는 연구를 진행하였다.

Effective Reduction of Horizontal Error in Laser Scanning Information by Strip-Wise Least Squares Adjustments

  • Though the airborne laser scanning (ALS) technique is becoming more popular in many applications, horizontal accuracy of points scanned by the ALS is not yet satisfactory when compared with the accuracy achieved for vertical positions. One of the major reasons is the drift that occurs in the inertial measurement unit (IMU) during the scanning. This paper presents an algorithm that adjusts for the error that is introduced mainly by the drift of the IMU that renders systematic differences between strips on the same area. For this, we set up an observation equation for strip-wise adjustments and completed it with tie point and control point coordinates derived from the scanned strips and information from aerial photos. To effectively capture the tie points, we developed a set of procedures that constructs a digital surface model (DSM) with breaklines and then performed feature-based matching on strips resulting in a set of reliable tie points. Solving the observation equations by the least squares method produced a set of affine transformation equations with 6 parameters that we used to transform the strips for adjusting the horizontal error. Experimental results after evaluation of the accuracy showed a root mean squared error (RMSE) of the adjusted strip points of 0.27 m, which is significant considering the RMSE before adjustment was 0.77 m.

현장 초기응력 측정과 시추공 이미지 스캐닝 자료의 통합 분석을 통한 포항분지 제 3기 지층 내 수평응력 분포 특성 연구 (Study on the Current Horizontal Stress Characteristics of the Tertiary Rock Formations in the Pohang Basin by Integrated Analysis with In-situ Rock Stress Measurement and Borehole Scanning Data Set)

  • 본 연구에서는 포항 도움산 지역 내 시험공 3개소의 심도 75 m~716 m 구간에서 획득된 원위치 암반 초기응력 측정 자료를 바탕으로 포항분지 제3기 지층 내에 형성되어 있는 수평응력 분포 특성을 분석하였다. 수압파쇄법에 의한 대심도 초기응력 측정 결과, 조사 지역의 수평응력 성분 크기는 국내 여러 지역 자료에 대한 선형 회귀분석으로부터 계산된 평균값에 비해 매우 낮은 범위의 값을 나타내었다. 그러나 시추공 스캐닝 조사에서 분포 암종의 낮은 강도 특성에 의해 유발된 다양한 규모의 시추공 파괴 현상들이 다수 확인되었다. 최대 수평응력의 방향성에 대한 보다 정확하고 폭넓은 정보를 도출하기 위해 수압파쇄시험과 시추공 스캐닝 자료에 대한 통합 분석을 추가적으로 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 상부 퇴적암층과 하부 화산암층에서 최대 수평응력 작용 방향은 각각 진북 기준 $80^{\circ}{\sim}100^{\circ}$ (N80E~N80W)와 $120^{\circ}{\sim}140^{\circ}$ (N60W~N40W) 방위각에서 우세한 방향성을 나타내었다. 이러한 연구 결과로부터 심도 증가로 지층이 변화함에 따라 최대 수평응력 방향이 시계 방향으로 회전하는 경향성을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • MEP layout and 3D Laser scanning are widely used equipment for displacement measurement in construction site. In this study, MEP layout and 3D Laser scanning were used to measure the lateral displacement of the same structure, and then the advantages and disadvantages of each were compared and analyzed. In general, it has been shown that MEP layout can save a lot of time compared to 3D Laser scanning. And it was found that the lateral displacement measurement results measured at a distance of 15m were similar to each other.

전통한지 표면 및 단면의 현미경적 관찰 (Microscopic Observation of Surface and Cross Section of Korean Traditional Paper-Hanji)

  • To investigate fiber orientation of Korean traditional paper, Hanji, the fiber arrangements on the surface and cross section of Hanji were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The surface observation showed that the fibers of traditional paper were arranged in vertical and horizontal directions, and those of ssangbal sheet forming were arranged more in vertical direction. The fibers of machine made Hanji and copying paper were usually arranged in vertical direction. As for the observation of cross section of traditional paper, fibers arranged in horizontal direction tended to be increased with the increase of thicknesses. The thick traditional paper have cracks in the middle part of structural section of paper. They were larger in cross section in horizontal direction than in vertical direction. The horizontal arrangement of traditional paper seemed to be about 8% to 14% higher to the vertical arrangement, which is very lower to other papers.

  • 본 논문에서는 광 스캐닝 홀로그래피 기술을 이용하여 실제 반사형 물체의 복소 홀로그램을 스펙클 잡음 없이 촬영하고 데이터양을 줄이면서 동시에 일반적인 진폭 유일 공간 광 변조기를 이용해 광학적인 방법으로 복원할 수 있도록 탈축 수평 시차 홀로그램으로 변환하였다. 변환된 탈축 수평 시차 홀로그램이 공간상에 복원되어 디스플레이가 될 수 있음을 보이기 위하여 수치적인 방법을 이용하여 홀로그램을 복원하였다.

  • Currently NTSC, PAL, and SECOM are widely used for TV broadcasting systems. In Korea, NTSC has been used to reduce transmission bandwidth and broadband flickers using the Interlaced scanning method. Image data in the Interlaced scanning method require De-interlacing compensation for PC-based multimedia applications. The existing compensation algorithms such as ZOI, FOI, and ELA provieds simple computations and effective image compensation while the PSNR is low and horizontal and vertical edges are hardly detected. In this paper, the ADI(Adaptive De-Interlacing) algorithm that can increase PSNR and detect horizontal and vertical edges is proposed and a hardware system is implemented using three ACTEL 1020B FPGA chips. The system consists of the algorithm part implemented using two FPGAs and the memory control part implemented using rest one. Also the system operation is investigated for real time processing.
