  • In this paper, we addressed a modeling for the magnetic levitation stage. This planar magnetic levitator employs four permanent magnet liner motors. Each motor generates vertical force for suspension against gravity, as well as horizontal force for propulsion. Therefore. this stage can generate six degrees of freedom motion by the combination of forces. We derived a mechanical dynamics equation using Lagrangian method and electromechanical dynamics equation by using Co-energy method. Based on the derived dynamics, we can analyze the stage motion that is subject to the input currents and forces.

  • The properties of Tuned Liquid Damper are investigated theoretically. In this study, numerical model is a nonlinear model for a rectangular TLD under horizontal motion on the basis of the shallow water wave theory, where the damping of the liquid motion is included semianalytically. For TLD subjected to harmonic external force, the liquid motion of TLD is simulated. Analysis result is showed that liquid motion in TLD is strongli nonlinear even under small excitation.

  • This study is for seismic analysis of building structures with ambiguous modal direction This case is revealed symmetrical building structure or the structure that isn't coincided building axis with physical axis. Seismic analysis-time history analysis, response spectrum analysis and lateral force procedure-is carried out. It is concluded that analysis method for the structure with ambiguous modal direction don't suitable for lateral force procedure. It is recommended to use the CQC method for combining modal responses to the individual components and the SRSS rule for combining responses to the two horizontal components are of nearly equal intensities.

  • Torques on each joint, the compression on L5/S1 disc, the force on hand of a rider are estimated using a static biomechnic model. Forces that the rider applies to the pedals, saddle and handle during starting and speeding are estimated using static mechanics. Physical stress is considered accroding to handle height and horizontal distance between handle and pedal. When handle height is higher in normal speeding, the force on handle and sum of torques on each joint decreases.

  • The behavior of earth retention wall installed in cut slope is different from the behavior of retention wall applied in urban excavation. In order to establish the design method of anchored retention walls in cut slope, the behavior of anchored retention wall can be investigated and checked in detail. In this study, the behavior of anchored retention wall was investigated by instrumentation installed in cut slope for an apartment construction stabilized by a row of piles. The horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall was larger than the displacement of slope soil behind the wall at the early stage of excavation. As the excavation depth became deeper, the horizontal displacement of slope soil was larger than the displacement of anchored retention wall. It means that the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall due to excavation is restrained by soldier pile stiffness and jacking force of anchor. Jacking force of anchor was mainly influenced in the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall. The displacements of anchored retention wall and slope soil were affected mainly by an rainfall infiltrated from the ground surface. Meanwhile, the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall with slope backside was about 2-6 times larger than the displacement of anchored retention wall with horizontal backside of excavation.

  • Vibratory bowl feeders are widely utilized to align and feed the parts stacked inside the bowl of a feeder. The electro-magnetic force of the electromagnet in a bowl feeder generates the excitation force for the bowl to vibrate in both the horizontal and vertical directions to continuously feed the parts on the track. The feed rate of the part depends on the associated displacement in each direction during the vibration. Therefore, the excitation force induced by the electromagnet should be estimated in advance to ensure the suitable design of the bowl feeder. In this study, a theoretical solution was developed to calculate the electro-magnetic force of the electromagnet for a bowl feeder. Using the proposed solution, the electro-magnetic forces corresponding to a variation in the input parameters of the electromagnet, such as the voltage, frequency, and air gap, could be obtained. The force values obtained using the theoretical solution exhibited a satisfactory agreement with the results obtained using the finite element method, thereby demonstrating the validity of the approach. Subsequently, the bowl displacements were analyzed using the motion equation for the bowl feeder when the theoretically obtained excitation force were applied to vibrate the feeder. The correlation between the vertical displacements of the bowl and input parameters of the electromagnet could be obtained.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the horizontal shear strength on the interface between PC and cast-in-place concrete for PC composite beams. Six specimens were tested to examine the structural performance of the horizontal interface with different surface condition and stirrup detailing. Except for SF-291B specimen failed in flexural compression, strengths and deformation capacities of five specimens were determined by horizontal shear failure. Horizontal shear strengths by composite horizontal shear or shear friction in current codes could be used to predict the horizontal shear capacity of the interface for specimens. Also detailing for stirrup by PCI design provision could be used to accomplish the composite action in the interface.

  • This paper is intended to investigate the behavior of flexural-shear cracking in reinforced concrete beams without web reinforcement with FEM incorporated into a linear elastic fracture mechanics approach(LEFM). Each crack was propagated progressively by a finite length, then the quantitative reponses were examined. The results show that the horizontal crack was initiated by the bond-jnduced shear stress due to horizontal shearing action of the T-C force couple after the formation of the critical flexural crack. Also, the horizontal crack is considered to be a major factor of shear failure in slender reinforced concrete beams without web reinforcement.
