경남 통영군 2개 도서 지역 주민의 장내 기생충 감염 상황 (Intestinal parasite infections among inhabitants in two islands of Tongyeong-gun, Kyeongsangnam-do)

  • 우리 나라 도서 지역의 장내 기생충 감염 현황을 파악하기 위한 조사 연구의 일환으로 1989년 8월과 9월에 경남 통영군 산양면 및 욕지면 도서주민 189명의 대변을 수집하여 셀로판 후층 도말법과 formalin-ether 원심침전법으로 각각 1매 씩의 도말 표본을 만들어 검사하였다. 전체적인 윤충류 충란 양성률은 30.2%이었으며 윤충류 종별 양성률은 펀충 24.3%, 회충 2.1%, 구충 2.1%, 동양모양선충 0.5%, 간흡충 1.1%, 이형흡충류 1.6%, 유·무구조충 2.6%이었으며 원충류 종별 양성률은 람블껄모충 1.6%, 대장아메바 0.5%이었다. 편충란 양성률은 남자(17.1%) 보 다 여자에서 (29.9%) 다소 높았고 연령별로 10∼19세 군에서 가장 높았으며 E.P.G.는 평균 303이었다. 이 조사로 아직도 도서 지역의 장내 윤충류 감염률은 도시나 농촌지역에서 보고된 것보다 비교적 높다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

라오스 초등학생의 장내 기생충 감염 실태 조사 (Prevalence of intestinal parasite infections on a national scale among primary schoolchildren in Lao PDR)

  • In order to investigate the epidemiological situation of intestinal parasite infections in Lao PDR, parasitological surveys were carried out on a national scale including 17 Provinces and the Vientiane Municipality. A total of 29,846 stool specimens were collected from primary schoolchildren in May 2000 June 2002 and examined once with the cellophane thick smear technique. The cumulative egg Positive rate For intestinal helminthes was 61.9%, BV species, the rate for As caris lumbricoides was 34.9%, hookworm 19.1%, Trichuris trichiura 25.8%,Opisthorchis viverrini 10.9%, Taenia spp. 0.6% and Hymenolepis spp. 0.2%. The northern mountainous regions suck as Phongsaly, Huaphan or Saysomboune Province showed higher prevalence(over 70%) of soil- transmitted helminthes. The regions along the Mekong River such as Khammuane, Saravaue or Savannakhet Province showed higher prevalence(over 20%)of fish-borne parasites. On the other hand, Schistosoma mekongi eggs were detected from1.7% of schoolchildren only in Champassak Province, a previously known endemic area. The highest prevalence was noted in Phongsaly Province(96.0%) and the lowest in Bolikhamxay Province(27.5%). An additional smal1-scale survey by cellophane anal swab detected Enterobius vermicularis eggs in 35.7% of 451 schoolchildren aged 6-8 in Khammuane, Vientiane, Champassak Province and the Vientiane Municipality. Meanwhile, the mean blood hemoglobin level of hootrworm-infected children was not lower than that of hookworm-uninfected children, suggesting that nutritional factors are more important than parasite infection per se. Nevertheless, the above results indicate that a nationwide parasite control project is necessary to reduce possible morbidity of parasitic diseases in the country.

A small-scale survey of intestinal parasite infections among children and adolescents in Legaspi city, the Philippines

  • To determine the status of infection caused by intestinal parasites among children and adolescents living in Legaspi city, the Philippines, we performed a small survey by fecal examination for helminth ova and protozoan cysts with formalin-ether concentration method. Of the 64 examinees, the infection rate was 78.1%. The infection rates of primary school children, preschool children and adolescents were 95.5%, 64.7% and 87.5%, respectively. The infection rate in urban areas was 56%, and 92.3% in rural areas. The infection rates were 51% with Trichuris trichiura, 40% with Ascaris lumbricoides, 23.4% with hookworm, 15.6% with Iodamoeba butschlii, 14.1% with Endolinax nana, 9.4% with Entamoeba coli and 7.8% with Giardia lamblia. There were 33 cases with multiple infection (51.6%). Mixed infection with more than 3 parasites was observed in 15 cases, all of them being children and adolescents living in rural areas. By this survey, it was conjectured that helminthic infection is prevalent among children and adolescents in Legaspi, Philippines. 국내 기생충 질환의 현황 및 전망

  • The current status and future prospects of parasitic infections in Korea is briefly reviewed. Soil-transmitted helminth infections including ascariasis, trichuriasis, and hookworm infections decreased remarkably. owing to the national control activities excuted by the Korea Association of Health Promotion(formerly Korea Association of parasite Eradication) using mass heath education. Important recent trends include reemergence of vivax malaria since 1993, persistence of food-borne trematode infections including clonorchiasis and intestinal trematode infections, increased detection of zoonotic parasitosis, close-up of infection with opportunistic parasites including cryptosporidiosis, toxoplasmosis, and pneumosytosis, increase of imported tropical infectious disease, appearance of new parasitic disease such as gymnophalloidiasis, and increase of accidental infections with free-living amoebae. These trends represent greatly changed overall patterns of parasitic infections in Korea.

  • The NGO program of "intestinal parasite Control among primary Schoolchildren of Lao PDR", supported by KOICA and implemented by KAHP, has started in 1999 and will be executed until 2004. Under cooperation of the LAo Ministry of Health, WHO, Korean Embassy and KOCIA, for the last 4 years, KHIP has conducted parasitological survey throughout the country, supply of medical equipment and anti-helminthics and treatment of positive people. The results of the survey is as below : A total of 29,846 stool specimens were collected from primary schoolchildren from May 2000 to June 2002 and examined once with the cellphone thick smear. By species, the rate for Ascaris lumbricoides was 34.9%, hookworm 19.1%, Trichuris trihiura 25.8%, Opisthorchis iverrini 10.9%, Taenia spp. 0.6% and Hymenolepis spp. 0.1%. The northern mountainous regions showed a higher prevalence of soil-transmitted helminths. Frictional Behavior of Solid and Hollow Cylinders in Contact Against a Porcine Intestine Specimen

  • In order to design an effective foot surface which can provide adequate friction for a self-propelled medical microrobot moving inside the small intestine, frictional mechanisms between the small intestine inner wall and the foot surface of the robot must be understood. In this paper, mechanical interlocking effect was considered to design the surface of the foot that can generate the desired frictional force. The concept of the design was derived from the hookworm that lives inside the small intestine. Hookwarms are known to adhere to the small intestine wall by interlocking with villi on the surface of the small intestine. The interlocking mechanism was considered as the main frictional mechanism for the design of the microrobot foot surface in this work. 2 mm and 6 mm diameter solid and hollow cylindrical shaped foot specimens were designed and tested to assess the frictional force between the specimens and the porcine small intestine specimen.

오소리에서 Uncinaria의 감염 증례 (Uncinaria infection in a Badger, A case report)

  • A male badger which showed depression and bloody diarrhea was submitted to Iksan Branch of Chonbuk Veterinary Service Laboratory for necropsy on May 1998. Grossly, paleness of the mucous membranes was observed and the small intestinal contents were hamorrhagic. The numerous tiny hookworms, sized in 5-10 mm and greyish-white in color, attached to the intestinal mucosa. Male bursa was well developed. Histologically, intestinal lumen was filled with hemorrhagic contents, which contained worms. The epithelial cells of the villi were underwent degeneration and lamina propria was infiltrated by lymphocytes and plasma cells, and goblet cells were hyperplastic. There were rounded cutting plates in the funnel-shaped buccal capsule and transverse striation on sheath in hookworm, ultrastructurally, which were consistent with Uncinaria sp. The shape of eggs were ellipsoidal and morula, and some eggs contained a mobile larva. It was concluded that this badger was infected with Uncinaria.

대구 시판 엽채류에서의 기생충란과 유충 부착상의 변화 (Change in Incidence of Parasite Eggs and Larvae from Vegetable in the Markets of Taegu)

  • 대구시내의 비륭 시장에서 엽채류 등 상치 열무 및 배추를 구입하여 기생충란과 유충의 부착상을 1982연 7월부터 1983연 6월까지 1연간에 걸쳐서 조사하여 이(1969)와 최·이(1972)의 조사성적과 비교하였다. 율소엽은 단단한 솔로 세척하여 부착된 기생충의 종유, 부착률 및 채소 200g당 기생충란의 평균 부착수를 조사하였다. 채소엽에서 4종의 기생기란 회충, 모양선충, 구직및 간흡충란과 2종의 유충 기충의 사상 및 간상유충을 찾아 볼 수 있었다. 이 중 회충란의 부착률은 4.2%로서 가장 높았으며 다음은 구충란으로서 3.6%였다. 채소 2009당 회충란의 부착수는 열무 0.6f권, 상치 및 배추는 각각 0.3개였고 기충의 사상발충은 열무 0.4%, 상치 0.3개, 배추 0.1개였으며 간상유충은 열무 0.2%, 상치 0.1%, 배추 0.05개로서 간상유충보다 사상유충이 많이 부착되어 있었다. 이(1969)와 최·이(1972)의 조사성적에서는 채소 200g당 회충란의 부착수는 열무 7.5%, 상치 3.1%, 배추 0.5개였는데 비하여 이번 조사성속에서는 열무 0.6개, 상치 및 배추는 각각 0.3개로서 심히 감소되었음을 나타내었다.

에꽈돌국 과야스주 빨말 본당 지역 주민의 장내 기생충 감염상태 (Status of intestinal parasite infections in inhabitants of Palmar, Guavas Province, Ecuador)

  • 한국 가톨릭의사협회는 남미 에꽈돌국 과야스주의 해안 지방인 빨말 본당에서 운영하는 "빠띠마 성녀 기념 본당 진료소"의 의료사업을 지원하고 있다. 그 사업의 하나로 이 지역 메스띠조인의 보건 실태를 관찰하고 앞으로의 중점 보건 사업을 파악하기 의하여 1989년 8월 6일부터 8월 19일까지 주민 진료와 합께 대변검사를 실시하고 기생충 감염 실태를 조사하였다. 이 지역은 동부 태평양에 연한 해안 어촌 마을인 빨말(본당), 아양게, 함벨리(공소)와 해안에서 떨어져 있고 목축을 주업으로 하는 바빌 데세초, 리오세꼬, 밤빌꼬자오, 마난띠 알 데 꼴론체 및 세비자 등 공소마을로 구성되어 있고 주민은 모두 약 20,000명으로 추산된다. 대변검사는 직접 도말법(요드염색 후) 1매와 셀로판후층도말법 1매를 각각 검경하여 장내 원충 포낭 및 윤충 충란 배출을 검사하였다. 검사 대상자는 진료소를 찾은 주민이며 빨말 본당 지역의 주민 160명을 포함한 해안 마을 주민 226명과 내륙 공소 마을 주민 99명 등 모두 325명이었다. 대변검사 결과 충란 및 포낭 양성률이 66.1%이었고 윤충 충란 양성률은 38.2%, 원충 포낭 양성률은 56.1%이었다. 기생충별 양성률은 회충 18.1%, 편충 19.4%, 구충 0.6%, 왜소조충 3.7%, 유구 및 무구조충 1.8%, 이질아메바 19.4%, 대장아메바 28.6%, 소형아매바 5.5%, 요드아메바 1.5%, 람블편모충 11.1%, 킬로마스틱 스메니리 0.6%이었다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 보면 이 지역에서 가장 중요한 기생충 감염은 이질 아메바와 람블편모충이며 따라서 위생적인 식수를 마련하는 것이 가장 중요한 보건사업이라고 판단되었다. 목축을 주로 하는 내륙 마을중에는 조충증과 유구낭미충증이 유행하는 지역이 있었다.
