  • Underwater shape and hook depth in tuna longline gear are important factors to decide fishing performance. It also should be considered that management and analysis of hooked rate data from hooked fish species and sizes, and each fishing would be used as a reference data in the future fishing. In this research, after analyzing underwater shape of tuna longline gear by current direction and speed using simulation, experiments were executed in flume tank to verify accuracy of the analysis. Also using the depth of each hook from the simulation, a database system was setup to process the data of bait and hooked fish species. The results were as follows;1. When the attack angle and the shortening rate are fixed, a decrease of the hook depth is proportion to an increase of current speed. 2. When the shortening rate and current speed are fixed, a decrease of hook depth is proportion to an increase of attack angle. 3. When the attack angle and velocity of flow are fixed, a decrease of hook depth is proportion to an increase of shortening rate 4. As a result of comparison between the underwater shape by simulation and that by model gear, the result of the simulation was very close to that of model gear within $$ {\pm}3%$$ 3% error range. 5. In this research, hooked rate database system using hook depth of simulation can analyze the species and size of fish by the parameter; bait. hook depth, so It could be helpful to manage and analyze the hooked data on the field.

  • In this paper an analytical model is presented that addresses the compressive response of short-fiber reinforced concrete members (FRC) with hooked steel fibers. This model is applicable to a wide range of concrete strengths and accounts for the interaction between the cover spalling and the concrete core confinement induced by transverse steel stirrups and also for buckling of longitudinal reinforcing bars. The load-shortening curves generated here analytically fit existing experimental data well.

  • Morphological features of the two Korean Acrosorium species, A. flabellatum Yamada and A. venulosum (Zanardini) Kylin (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta) are described based on specimens collected from several localities along the coasts of Korea. Acrosorium flabellatum is easily distinguished from other Acrosorium species in lacking rhizoids in branchlets for attachment to substratum. The flabellate branching is also characteristic for this species. By contrast, Acrosorium venulosum is distinct from others in having the unique hooked branchlets. Taxonomic features found in the Korean Acrosorium species are compared, and a key to the species is provided based on this and previous data.

  • In this paper, a design equation for the punching shear capacity of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) slabs is proposed based on the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) standard specifications. Addition of steel fibers into concrete improves mechanical behavior, ductility, and fatigue strength of concrete. Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of fiber reinforcement in improving the shear behavior of reinforced concrete slabs. In this study, twelve SFRC slabs using hooked-ends type steel fibers are tested with varying fiber dosage, slab thickness, steel reinforcement ratio, and compressive strength. Furthermore, test data conducted by earlier researchers are involved to verify the proposed design equation. The proposed design equation addresses the fiber pull-out strength and the critical shear perimeter changed by the fiber factor. Consequently, it is confirmed that the proposed design equation can predict the punching shear capacity of SFRC slabs with an applicable accuracy.

  • Three economic marine algae that have been used as food and carrageenan sources were collected from Korea during a survey of marine algal flora. They share the generic features of Hypnea, and three major clades supported by the sectional features were confirmed in a phylogenetic tree based on rbcL sequences. The first species, which belongs to a species group corresponding to the sect. Spinuligerae, nests in the same clade with Hypnea yamadae in a genetic distance of 0%. It is morphologically characterized by an entangled base, subcompressed or subterete to terete axes, somewhat percurrent main axis, irregularly alternately branching with wide angle, and rarely hooked spinous branchlets. The second one is also referred to the sect. Spinuligerae and formed the same clade as Hypnea cenomyce. The genetic distance between both sequences was calculated as 0.0-0.1%, which is considered to be intraspecific. This species is distinct by somewhat entangled thallus at the basal part, percurrent axis, short spine-like branchlets densely covering the axis, and medullary lenticular thickenings. The third alga, which forms a species group corresponding to the sect. Pulvinatae, nests in the same clade as Hypnea nidulans (no intraspecific divergence). It shows occasionally epiphytic habitat rather than epilithic habitat of low mat-forming growth and percurrent erect main axes with dense lateral branchlets. Based on these morphological and molecular data, the three Korean species are identified as H. yamadae, H. cenomyce, and H. nidulans. This is the first record of the Hypnea species in Korea.

  • In this study, an automatic system for improving the working environment and increasing production efficiency of a laver aquaculture industry in Korea was developed by combining a hydraulic control system and a load cell in a current landing work of the laver. The improved gathering laver system allowed the automatic gathering process of the laver in the sea with the hydraulic control system connected to a cutting machine of the laver on the operating ship, which has been used for gathering the laver semi-automatically in a form of the traditional farming method. The transporting process of the laver from an operating ship to the land was improved as follows. A frame installed on the operating ship and the bag nets were designed and made to hold about 1,000 kg of the laver inside. The bag nets contain the laver on the improved operating ship were tied in knots and hooked on a crane using a load cell. The weight is measured immediately by lifting the bag nets through the load cell system. Weight information is communicated to the fishermen and successful bidders through the application. The advantages of the improved system can help fishermen to fish by improving their working environment and increasing production efficiency. The field survey to improve the landing operation of the laver aquaculture was conducted in Gangjin, Goheung, Shinan, Wando, Jindo, and Haenam in South Jeonnam Province. A total of 10 sites including Gunsan in Jeonbuk Province, Daebu Island in Ansan City, Jebu Island in Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province, and Seocheon in Chungnam Province were searched to collect data. Prototypes of the system were tested at the auction house of laver located in Goheung, where laver collection using hydraulic control and landing using road cell could be improved.

  • This experimental study was performed to lnvestigate the effects of the lergths dnd volume contents of glued hooked steel fiber for the fracture toughness and strength of c oncretc. The notched steel fiber reinforced concrete beams with different flber length(30, 60mm) and fiber volume content(O.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0%) were tested under 3-point benclmg, md 1 he flexural strengths, fracture energy and CMOD were obtained from the experimental data. The fracture energy v~ds used as d means to evaluate the fracture toughness ot concrete. The results showed that the frdcture toughness and 5trength of conuett. were generally increased ds the content of steel fiber was inc~edsed, arid the length of steel ilber had a great efiect on the flexural strength but little on the compressive itrength and fractule toughness. And also, considering the distributions of steel fiber, workablity and the maxinium size of coarse dqgregates, the optimum content of steel fiber seemed to be about 1.0 '0, and when lts length uias longer the results were somewhat tavorable.

  • In this study, potential of three machine learning techniques i.e., M5P, Support vector machines and Gaussian processes were evaluated to find the best algorithm for the prediction of flexural strength of concrete mix with steel fibre. The study comprises the comparison of results obtained from above-said techniques for given dataset. The dataset consists of 124 observations from past research studies and this dataset is randomly divided into two subsets namely training and testing datasets with (70-30)% proportion by weight. Cement, fine aggregates, coarse aggregates, water, super plasticizer/ high-range water reducer, steel fibre, fibre length and curing days were taken as input parameters whereas flexural strength of the concrete mix was taken as the output parameter. Performance of the techniques was checked by statistic evaluation parameters. Results show that the Gaussian process technique works better than other techniques with its minimum error bandwidth. Statistical analysis shows that the Gaussian process predicts better results with higher coefficient of correlation value (0.9138) and minimum mean absolute error (1.2954) and Root mean square error value (1.9672). Sensitivity analysis proves that steel fibre is the significant parameter among other parameters to predict the flexural strength of concrete mix. According to the shape of the fibre, the mixed type performs better for this data than the hooked shape of the steel fibre, which has a higher CC of 0.9649, which shows that the shape of fibers do effect the flexural strength of the concrete. However, the intricacy of the mixed fibres needs further investigations. For future mixes, the most favorable range for the increase in flexural strength of concrete mix found to be (1-3)%.
