A method of synthetic time series generation was developed and applied to the simulation of homogeneous turbulence in a periodic 3 - D box and the hourly wind data simulation. The method can simulate almost exact sample auto and cross correlations of multiple time series and control non-Gaussian distribution. Using the turbulence simulation, influence of correlations, non-Gaussian distribution, and one-direction anisotropy on homogeneous structure were studied by investigating the spatial distribution of turbulence kinetic energy and enstrophy. An hourly wind data of Typhoon Robin was used to illustrate a capability of the method to simulate sample cross correlations of multiple time series. The simulated typhoon data shows a similar shape of fluctuations and almost exactly the same sample auto and cross correlations of the Robin.

A rapid, convenient homogeneous competitive enzyme immunoassay for estimating the amount of fenthion is described. The assay utilizes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase-hapten conjugates that are inhibited in solution by antibodies obtained from bovine serum albumin-hapten conjugates. In order to investigate the effects of bridging group recognition on the sensitivity of dose response characteristics, the bridging groups of varying alkyl chain length were attached at the phosphate position of fenthion. Among the antibodies used, the one obtained from the use of hapten (fenthion analog) with the same bridging group structure that was used in preparing the enzyme-fenthion conjugates showed maximum inhibition (up to 51.8%) in the absence of fenthion. In the presence of fenthion, the activity of the enzyme-hapten conjugate is regained in an amount proportional to the fenthion concentration. Under the optimized condition, the $ED_{50}$ value for fenthion was $0.809{\mu}g/ml$. The assay developed in this study is a rapid effective screening method for fenthion prior to precise analysis.
Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is a promising method for drastically enhancing the mechanical properties of the materials by grain refinement of metallic materials. However, inhomogeneous deformation during the SPD process results in the inhomogeneous microstructure of the SPD-processed material. We manufactured cylindrical copper specimens of 42 mm in diameter with ultrafine grains (UFG) using an equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) to figure out the relationship between homogeneous microstructure and the number of the processing passes. Two specimens, which are ECAP-processed 4 times (4pass) and 6 times (6pass) each with Route Bc, are prepared for comparison of mechanical properties and microstructure. The results show that the mechanical properties of the two specimens (4pass and 6pass) are similar. Moreover, both the specimens show highly enhanced mechanical properties. The 4pass specimen, however, shows inhomogeneity in hardness distribution, while the 6pass specimen shows a homogeneous distribution. Microstructure analysis reveals that the 4pass specimen has an inhomogeneous microstructure with incompletely refined grain structure. This inhomogeneity of the 4pass specimen could be explained by the circumferential rotation during ECAP process.
In this paper, the cavitating flows around a hydrofoil have been numerically investigated by using a 2-d multi-phase RANS flow solver based on pseudo-compressibility and a homogeneous mixture model on unstructured meshes. For this purpose, a vertex-centered finite-volume method was utilized in conjunction with 2nd-order Roe's FDS to discretize the inviscid fluxes. The viscous fluxes were computed based on central differencing. The Spalart-Allmaras one equation model was employed for the closure of turbulence. A dual-time stepping method and the Gauss-Seidel iteration were used for unsteady time integration. The phase change rate between the liquid and vapor phases was determined by Merkle's cavitation model based on the difference between local and vapor pressure. Steady state calculations were made for the modified NACA66 hydrofoil at several flow conditions. Good agreements were obtained between the present results and the experiment for the pressure coefficient on a hydrofoil surface. Additional calculation was made for cloud cavitation around the hydrofoil. The observation of the vapor structure, such as cavity size and shape, was made, and the flow characteristics around the cavity were analyzed. Good agreements were obtained between the present results and the experiment for the frequency and the Strouhal number of cavity oscillation.
In this paper we prove the following : Let M be a real (2n-1)-dimensional compact minimal semi-invariant submanifold in a complex projective space P(sub)n+1C. If the scalar curvature $\geq$2(n-1)(2n+1), then m is a homogeneous type $A_1$ or $A_2$. Next suppose that the third fundamental form n satisfies dn = 2$\theta\omega$ for a certain scalar $\theta$$\neq$c/2 and $\theta$$\neq$c/4 (4n-1)/(2n-1), where $\omega$(X,Y) = g(X,øY) for any vectors X and Y on a semi-invariant submanifold of codimension 3 in a complex space form M(sub)n+1 (c). Then we prove that M has constant principal curvatures corresponding the shape operator in the direction of the distingusihed normal and the structure vector ξ is an eigenvector of A if and only if M is locally congruent to a homogeneous minimal real hypersurface of M(sub)n (c).
Kang and Ko introduced a skew-symmetrizable matrix to describe a structure theorem for complete intersections of grade 4. Let $R=k[w_0,\;w_1,\;w_2,\;{\ldots},\;w_m]$ be the polynomial ring over an algebraically closed field k with indetermiantes $w_l$ and deg $w_l=1$, and $I_i$ a homogeneous perfect ideal of grade 3 with type $t_i$ defined by a skew-symmetrizable matrix $G_i(1{\leq}t_i{\leq}4)$. We show that for m = 2 the Hilbert function of the zero dimensional standard k-algebra $R/I_i$ is determined by CI-sequences and a Gorenstein sequence. As an application of this result we show that for i = 1, 2, 3 and for m = 3 a Gorenstein sequence $h(R/H_i)=(1,\;4,\;h_2,\;{\ldots},\;h_s)$ is unimodal, where $H_i$ is the sum of homogeneous perfect ideals $I_i$ and $J_i$ which are geometrically linked by a homogeneous regular sequence z in $I_i{\cap}J_i$.
In this paper, linear elastic isotropic structures under the effects of both stochastic operators and stochastic excitations are studied. The analysis utilizes the spectral stochastic finite elements (SSFEM) with its two main expansions namely; Neumann and Homogeneous Chaos expansions. The random excitation and the random operator fields are assumed to be second order stochastic processes. The formulations are obtained for the system solution of the two dimensional problems of plane strain and plate bending structures under stochastic loading and relevant rigidity using the previously mentioned expansions. Two finite element programs were developed to incorporate such formulations. Two illustrative examples are introduced: the first is a reinforced concrete culvert with stochastic rigidity subjected to a stochastic load where the culvert is modeled as plane strain problem. The second example is a simply supported square reinforced concrete slab subjected to out of plane loading in which the slab flexural rigidity and the applied load are considered stochastic. In each of the two examples, the first two statistical moments of displacement are evaluated using both expansions. The probability density function of the structure response of each problem is obtained using Homogeneous Chaos expansion.
Nanosized $SnO_2$ particles were synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method using tin chloride ($SnCl_4{\cdot}5H_{2}O$) and urea ($CO(NH_2)_2$). The powders were heated at $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The crystal structure, microstructure, thermal behavior, specific surface area were analyzed using XRD, FE-SEM, TGA and BET, respectively. The initial resistance and the $H_2$ sensing properties were measured as a function of ${Sb_2}{O_3}$ and Pd doping concentrations. The resistance was decreased with the addition of ${Sb_2}{O_3}$ and the sensitivity for $H_2$ gas was increased with the addition of Pd. Thus, the optimum $H_2$ gas sensing property was obtained in the 0.25.mol% ${Sb_2}{O_3}$ and 1.w% added $SnO_2$ powders.
This paper studies the experimental method that uses the homogeneous precipitation method to prepare mica flakes coated with anatase-type titania pearlescent pigment with urea as precipitant. The optimum technology parameters, the chemical composition, the microstructure, and the color property of resulting pigments are discussed. The coating principle of mica coated titania with various coating thickness is analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and tested by spectrophotometer analysis. The colored nanocrystalline pigments with different morphology and coating thickness 45-170 nm were prepared by homogeneous precipitation treatment of $TiOSO_4$(titanum oxysulfate) aqueous solutions. Characterizations on the pigments show that the pearlescent effects of the pigments depend mainly on mica size, thickness of the metal oxide deposit, its chemical composition, and crystal structure.
