  • Since the superconductor type II with high critical current and high critical magnetic field was discovered in 1961, there were many studies on the superconducting coil for high field and highly homogeneous field. The graphical method and the numerical method by Newton Raphson technique have been studied as the method for design of homogeneous superconducting coil. It is comparatively easy to get a compensating coil for any given main coil by the above methods, but it is too laborious to get a general solution for main coil dimension. This paper studies the optimal design method for minimum volume of superconducting coil under certain central field and highly homogeneous field. The present method makes use of the nonlinear programming for optimization. The optimal solution of NMR superconducting coils by this method are demonstrated very well.

  • Lean burn gasoline engine is recognized as a promising way to meet better fuel economy. Lean burn engine is classified into port injection and direct injection(DI), DI is more active technique for improving fuel economy with ultra-lean operation, Nowadays, port injected lean burn engine has been produced by many Japan maker. Also, DI engine is also possible for production owing to improvement in control technique of spray, flow air fuel ratio. DI engine uses either homogeneous stoichiometric mixture or stratified mixture by controlling injection timing to be early or late respectively. HM(homogeneous mixture) is worse than SM(stratified mixture) in view of ultra-lean operation in partical load and Nox reducion by using EGR control. But, HM has advanteges in cold starting and emission reduction during transient operation, This paper describes experimental variables and bench test results of HM GDI engine.

  • In order to investigate the physical mechanism of the energy cascade in homogeneous isotropic turbulence, we introduce Galilean-invariant energy and its transfer rate in the real space as a function of position, time and scale. By using a database of direct numerical simulations (DNS) of homogeneous isotropic turbulence, it is shown that (i) fully developed turbulence consists of multi-scale coherent vortices of tubular shapes, (ii) the energy at each scale is mainly confined in vortex tubes with the radii of the same order of the length scale, and (iii) the energy transfer takes place around pairs (especially, anti-parallel pairs) of such vortex tubes. Based on these observations, it is suggested that the energy cascade can be caused, in the real space, by the process of the stretching and creation of smaller (i.e. thinner) vortex tubes by the straining field around pairs of larger (i.e. fatter) vortex tubes. Indeed, it is quite easy to find such events (in our DNS fields) which strongly support this scenario of the energy cascade.

  • The hybrid catalytic(catalytic+thermal) combustor of a lean methane-air mixture on platinum catalyst was investigated numerically using a 2-D boundary layer model with detailed homogeneous and heterogeneous chemistries. For the more accurate calculations, the actual surface site density of monolith coated with platinum was decided by the comparison with experimental data. It was found that the homogeneous reactions in the monolith had little effect on the change of temperature profile, methane conversion rate and light off location. However, the radicals such as OH and CO were produced rapidly at exit by homogeneous reactions. Thus the homogeneous reactions were important to predict the productions of CO and NOx exactly. In thermal combustor, the production of $N_2O$ was more dominant than that of NO due to the relative important of the reaction $N_2+O(+M){\to}N_2O(+M)$. Finally the production of CO and NOx by amount of methane addition were studied.

  • A five parameter viscoelastic model is developed to study harmonic waves propagating in the non-homogeneous viscoelastic filaments of varying density. The constitutive relation for five parameter model is first developed and then it is applied for harmonic waves in the specimen. In this study, it is assumed that density, rigidity and viscosity of the specimen i.e., rod are space dependent. The specimen is non-homogeneous, initially unstressed and at rest. The method of non-linear partial differential equation has been used for finding the dispersion equation of harmonic waves in the rods. A simple method is presented for reflections at the free end of the finite non-homogeneous viscoelastic rods. The harmonic wave propagation in viscoelastic rod is also presented numerically with MATLAB.

  • There are two types of WSN(wireless sensor networks) in terms of sensor node's capability, that is, homogeneous or heterogeneous WSN. Even though the latter has better performance than the former, it requires some overhead for deploying nodes or clustering the network. In this paper, we propose a new scheme, called VHS(Virtual Heterogenous Sensor-Network), which uses a homogeneous WSN regarding energy in a heterogeneous way. The proposed scheme's performance has been evaluated and compared with other homogeneous schemes by simulation. The results are shown to be better than the other existing homogeneous schemes used in a sample sensor network application.

  • A constant volume combustion chamber was used to investigate the combustion characteristics. of homogeneous charge of methane-air mixture under various initial pressure, equivalence ratio and ignition times. The constant volume combustion chamber(CVCC) mostly has been studied by the experiments of visualization until now. So it is needed the numerical analysis of fluid and combustion characteristics in chamber by the more detail simulation. In this paper, the numerical analysis is tried to approach basically the homogeneous charge combustion phenomena under the various conditions, and the combustion phenomena in chamber is numerically analyzed by the commercial FIRE code. As a results, the combustion phenomena which were mean temperature, OH radical and reaction rate in chamber were investigated and it showed that the smallest flame growth occurs for the lean state and the increase of initial charged pressure condition due to the reduced OH radical.

  • In this paper, the natural frequencies of non-homogeneous damped beam are determined by using the differential transformation. The beam considered has different stiffness, damping and mass properties in each of two parts. The various boundary conditions are assumed at each end. The results obtained by the present method agree very well with those reported in the previous works. The present analysis shows the usefulness and validity of differential transformation in solving a non-homogeneous damped beam problem.

  • In this paper, to analyze the initial valued non-homogeneous elastic half space by the scaled boundary analysis, the infinite element approach was introduced. The free surface of the initial valued non-homogeneous elastic half space was mode1ed as a circumferential direction of boundary scaled boundary coordinate. The infinite element was used to represent the infinite length of the free surface. The initial value of material property(elastic modulus) was considered by the combination of the position of the sealing center and the power function of the radial direction. By use of the mapping type infinite element, the consistent e1ements formulation could be available. The performance and the feasibility of proposed approach are examined by two numerical examples.
