  • In this Paper, new data matrix structure and respective processing algorithm for digital holographic storage are Proposed. Data matrix consists of user data and reference grid which is used to compensate geometrical errors such as magnification, shift and rotation of stored information. Processing algorithm identifies the location of reference grid and extracts user data. As a result of experiment, raw BER in case of shit, rotation and magnification are 3.09${\times}$10$^{-18}$ , 6.14${\times}$10$^{-12}$ , 1.2${\times}$10$^{-7}$ , respectively.

  • A control method for the angle servo of reference beam during reading recoded data images of a holographic data storage system is presented. The recording scheme with angle offset is adopted in order to verify the proposed angle servo. Using this recording scheme, the angle error signal is generated and we can implement the angle servo. Experiments have been performed on recording and reading data images to compensate Bragg angle mismatch.

  • A holographic data storage (HDS) has some advantages of high storage capacity, fast transmission, and short access time. However, there are two major concerns with the system which are two-dimensional (2D) inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-page interference (IPI). Thus, this paper proposes a 4-level 6/9 modulation code which mitigate inter-symbol interference (ISI).

  • In holographic data storage (HDS), a high transmission rate is accomplished through the use of a charge coupled device array for reading two-dimensional (2D) pixel image data. Although HDS has many advantages in terms of storage capacity and data transmission rates, it also features problems, such as 2D intersymbol interference (ISI) by neighboring pixels and interpage interference (IPI) by multiple images stored in the same holographic volume. Modulation codes can be used to remove these problems. We introduce a 2D 8/9 error-correcting modulation code. The proposed modulation code exploits the trellis-coded modulation scheme, and the code rate is larger (about 0.889) than that of the conventional 6/8 balanced modulation code (an increase of approximately 13.9%). The performance of the bit error rate (BER) with the proposed scheme was improved compared with that of the 6/8 balanced modulation code and the simple 8/9 code without the trellis scheme.

  • Novel photochromic oxide glasses are presented in this section. These glasses are based on phosphate formers containing both tungsten and antimony atoms. Exposure to visible continuous or pulsed laser beam results in an intense photochromic effect witch is shown to occur in the volume of the glass and results in a broad absorption band in the visible and near infrared. This effect was not identified to be related with a structural change and is assumed to be entirely electronic. A change in the absorption coefficient is observed in function of tungsten content, exposure time and increases with beam power. These glasses have been investigated regarding the possibility of holographic data storage using visible lasers sources. Changes in both refractive index and the absorption coefficient were measured using a holographic setup. The modulation of the optical constants is reversible by heat treatment.

  • In this paper, we introduce modified parity coding methods to reduce the errors caused by spatial beam intensity variations in a holographic data storage system. We explained the encoding and decoding process of the conventional parity coding and the modified parity coding techniques. We compared the bit-error-rate (BER) performances of the conventional parity coding and the modified parity coding techniques from experimental evaluation.
