Korea has a dark age in terms of culture in the last 20th century. Korea had been struggling between the Great Powers of the world in the imperialism and had sacrifice to keep our own culture itself. Japanese imperialist's a invasion, culture liquidation by Japan, Independence from Japan, Korean war and Influence by US are major bitter historical affair after close of Chosun Dynasty in the process of modernization. Therefore Korea couldn't stay in the center of world cultural core parts and was degraded as cultural consumption country which was provided oversea culture by other countries. Then Korea couldn't develop our unique traditional idea and culture. In the meantime there are both extreme phenomena; one is expulsion of other cultures absolutely and the other is only following western culture unconditionally like trimming policy in the end of colony age. These discreet and unfiltered western culture had been influenced Korea culture over the wide range strongly and resulted in cultural colony situation to produce western imitation culture without philosophy and traditional spirit. Even though Korea has met opportunity in the culture, we called "Han Trend", no formation of own culture is main reason for psychological panic. Korea furniture design is one of parts of lost of tradition culture and typical parts in reproducing western imitation culture. As a result furniture industry's major reason for loss value as exporting industry compared to other industries result in most of the furniture products without our unique identity. This situation become more deepen unfortunately. This report would like to suggest the direction of design with global competition capability and cultural identity to boost Korean furniture design industry by comparing, analyzing and speculating between design of Chosun dynasty and philosophy of modernism in western.
The purpose of this study is to compare the social image and the external image of a Korean woman in 1970s and find out that the make-up can provide an important clue to examine the image of a woman in a given period. The research scope covered 10 top news of the daily newspapers and articles of women's magazines. A focus was made to an analysis on words and photos from them. The relationship of each image scale was examined by comparing the linguistic image scale and the visual image scale. The results were as follows : First, a frugal and tidy image. It was the look of our tidy, simple, traditional and classic woman. Second, an image of a cute and pure lady of refined manners. In 1970s, women were supposed to be 'a loving wife', a cultured female image with a faithful role of a 'wise mother' and a lady of refined manners as the best value. Third, a frivolous and decadent image. Double-faced image of a woman which included the women, who had to live as the lady of refined manners during the daytime and seductive woman during the night. Fourth, an image of a contemporary working woman. It was the image as a chic, confident and dignified working woman requested by the society of the times. Namely, it can be understood that women had a make-up of a soft and gorgeous tone as an expression of a will to keep a confident and female aspect in the course of working in the society by the women experiencing 1970s, the turbulent period. Consequently, it is possible to understand that the make-up was utilized as a means to express an ideal beauty of the time pursuant to the historical background or feature.
A lobby of a hotel is an important space by which the image of a hotel as a whole, the brand-identity, is determined. This study has researched and analyzed the special property in presentation of a landmark in a hotel lobby for its spatial factors, which affects visual cognition, and it is to provide information that can set out the foundation of space design for the appropriate landmark in a certain hotel lobby corresponding to the unique characteristics of a hotel. The regional range of this study includes the lobby spaces of 10 five-star hotels in Shanghai China and Seoul Korea. The types of spatial factors as landmarks and manifestation of those, which affect the visual cognition of the users are the range of context in this study. For this study, field-study and survey were both used in research. The results that have been concluded through this study are as follow. First, manifestational quality of a landmark in a hotel lobby is represented in its size, figure and contrast of 'shape', in its visibility and territory of 'space' and in its symbolic value and historical property of 'meaning', and each of those factors are related to the others. Secondly, the types of spatial factors in a landmark are displayed as being focused on the openness of the space or with large-scaled spatial factors. Light and lumination intensify the manifestation of various spatial factors in a landmark. Thirdly, each representational characteristic of spatial factors in a landmark, which are closely linked to each other should be controlled precisely in order to bring out functional and symbolic feature of a hotel lobby.
The purpose of this study is to research the viewpoint of space practice method through the discussion about social space. The study researched how social practice strategy is unfolded through the understanding about daily life, space manufacture and interaction. As a social practice, space design should adopt the interaction approach method on the basis of social relationship latent in the base of space. As a result of study, the viewpoint of space practice can be summarized into 3 viewpoints as below. First, it is the viewpoint of recognition through the experience meeting daily life. Rural space is the one of experience where daily life and social relationship interact each other. As a delicate sensible experience, it is the recognition of special space detected in the space where daily life occurs. Second, it is the viewpoint of form creation as a media product of society and space. Space is a whole creature of the relationship that has been formed socially as a historical process. Depending on the goal of community, new form is created by sharing the characteristic of space and having sense of kinship. Third, it is the viewpoint of tuning as a practice for subject participation. Rural space is the daily space to practice structured society subjectively through interaction. In the place of subjective life, there should a space practice with the tuning and cooperation method between subject and society. The main vein of space practice, which is analyzed with the discussion about social space, shows that out lives are maintained by space practice and directly connected to social relationship and structure. After all, the space, which is searched for through space design, has a clear subjectivity, ensures abundant subject life and is led to realization of community value.
Islam toot a great interest in the utility sciences such as mathematics and astronomy as it needed them for the religious reasons. It needeed geometry to determine the direction toward Mecca, its holiest place: arithmetic and algebra to settle the dates of the festivals and to calculate the accounts lot the inheritance; astronomy to settle the dates of Ramadan and other festivals. Islam expanded and developed mathematics and sciences which it needed at first for the religious reasons to the benefit of all mankind. This thesis focuses upon the golden age of Islamic culture between 7th to 13th century, the age in which Islam came to possess the spirit of discovery and learning that opened the Islamic Renaissance and provided, in turn, Europeans with the setting for the Renaissance in 14th century. While Europe was still in the midst of the dark age of the feudal society based upon the agricultural economy and its mathematics was barey alive with the efforts of a few scholars in churches, the. Arabs played the important role of bridge between civilizations of the ancient and modern times. In the history of mathematics, the Arabian mathematics formed the orthodox, not collateral, school uniting into one the Indo-Arab and the Greco-Arab mathematics. The Islam scholars made a great contribution toward the development of civilization with their advanced the development of civilization with their advanced knowledge of algebra, arithmetic and trigonometry. the Islam mathematicians demonstrated the value of numerals by using arithmetic in the every day life. They replaced the cumbersome Roman numerals with the convenient Arabic numerals. They used Algebraic methods to solve the geometric problems and vice versa. They proved the correlation between these two branches of mathematics and established the foundation of analytic geometry. This thesis examines the historical background against which Islam united and developed the Indian and Greek mathematics; the reason why the Arabic numerals replaced the Roman numerals in the whole world: and the influence of the Arabic mathematics upon the development of the modern mathematics.
The traditional culture, which is a historical product possessed by each country, represents the competitiveness of the country and becomes a national resource. Raw lacquer has a very long history and tradition in China. Lacquer, which is the basic material of Raw lacquer. Also it is a natural paint which has the functions of preservation, insectproof and waterproof used from ancient times in Asia, not only in China but also in Korea and Japan. Such Raw lacquer using lacquer has a long history and it is becomes to a tradition. On the other hand, Its value and meaning are being faded by oilpaintings and watercolors. Much effort and research are needed to become more popular. I would like to introduce the lacquering technique in illustration as one way. There are a lots of expression techniques in the present illustration, but lacquer expression is rarely seen. In the illustration, lacquering technique is a modern reinterpretation of traditional culture by combining modern technology with traditional culture. In this paper, a Raw lacquer with a long tradition of soul is informed to the public and it is a way to bring attention to the beauty of lacquer and reproduce the original expression technique as an illustration to enhance the understanding of traditional culture, I hope that Raw lacquer will be used in the field.

Music with the development of the media since the 20th century marks a change into an era where the live performance and music of the masses, which were hard to imagine in previous times, are shared. Based on this cultural trend, teenage music, which has been completely alienated from existing culture, is in line with the birth of Rock 'n' Roll, an event that has entered the mainstream, and the emergence of the guitar, especially the solid body electric guitar. The Fender Stratocaster, which is referred to as the epitome of this electric guitar, has joined the history of popular music for rock 'n' roll. To this day, the immense influence, which still encompasses many followers and generations, has served as a bridge that continues to be reproduced, even in the historical trend of popular music and the status of electric guitars. In addition, even in the rapid development of popular music and media, we will always be able to give true meaning and value to the vitality with the times. This paper examines the features and marks of these Fender Stratocasters.

Gwangju Metropolitan City has implemented a creative regeneration project of Gwangju Folly in the site of Gwangju-eup Fortress as part of the Gwangju Design Biennale by inviting well-known international architects. This study examined and analyzed the characteristics of location, place, and space through actual survey. The results were as follows. Gwangju Folly were mainly located at the four gates and corners of Gwangju-eup Fortress, main entrances of Asia Culture Complex, and historical places where the May 18 Democratization Movement occurred. The common place of Gwangju Folly was a footpath and common location types were the full location of footpath width and the partial location of footpath width. For the spatial types of Gwangju Folly, the practical type which people can stay was the most common(2/3). In the partial location of footpath width, the type which people take a rest and look out over the surroundings accounted for a half. In the full location of footpath width, the gate type which people pass accounted for 2/5. However, as footpath width was minimum for walking, both partial and full occupation types were narrow in place. It influenced the image of Gwangju Folly. Gwangju Folly did not play as a figure and show architects' intentions clearly because of their narrow locations. Therefore, it is very necessary to make a plan to maintain places so that Gwangju Folly do not have a cramped image and architects' intentions become clear with citizens' cultural competence. Also, urban property which creates the identity and attraction of Gwangju continuously should be settled down through helping citizens recognize the intention and value of artistic works.

The field of design is expanding and diversified in modern society while several new functions are presented by converging a variety of fields of knowledge. There are changes happening in people's way of thinking, sensitivity and behaviors as they are seeking for a new way of expression and aesthetic values. Accordingly, the black and white drawings are increasing as a new way of recognition of tradition or new materials. This paper is to make a study of the expression methods and their analysis of the black and white drawings, based on their historical and social background, and has suggested black and white expression methods as an aesthetic value consistent with the traditional oriental beauty and emotional sensitivity. This paper is also aimed at studying practical usage of the expression of black and white drawings shown in the TV-CM design, and expanding the scope of design by analyzing the conception, features, and classification of the black and white drawings and searching for a new technique or an oriental expression method.
When VTSOs (Vessel Traffic Service Operator) determine the degree of collision risk for two vessels, they consider comprehensive information about each vessel's course, speed, DCPA, TCPA, and encountering situation. In this study, we proposed a utility function based on the risk attitudes of VTSOs toward the Risk Index (RI). The RI was calculated using the risk of encounter, the risk of approach, and the risk of time for two vessels in order to predict each ship's collision risk from the VTS viewpoint. We obtained each coefficient of the RI and the risk attitude through a survey of collision risks among VTSOs of Korea. In order to verify whether the proposed utility is reasonable, we validated by applying the degree of collision risk to some historical cases of accidents in Busan port along with the Ship of ES value($ES_S$) of ES(Environmental Stress) model.
