This paper presents six novel hybrid machine learning (ML) models that combine support vector machines (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting (GB), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), and categorical gradient boosting (CGB) with the Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) algorithm. These models, namely HHO-SVM, HHO-DT, HHO-RF, HHO-GB, HHO-XGB, and HHO-CGB, are designed to predict the ultimate strength of both rectangular and circular reinforced concrete (RC) columns. The prediction models are established using a comprehensive database consisting of 325 experimental data for rectangular columns and 172 experimental data for circular columns. The ML model hyperparameters are optimized through a combination of cross-validation technique and the HHO. The performance of the hybrid ML models is evaluated and compared using various metrics, ultimately identifying the HHO-CGB model as the top-performing model for predicting the ultimate shear strength of both rectangular and circular RC columns. The mean R-value and mean a20-index are relatively high, reaching 0.991 and 0.959, respectively, while the mean absolute error and root mean square error are low (10.302 kN and 27.954 kN, respectively). Another comparison is conducted with four existing formulas to further validate the efficiency of the proposed HHO-CGB model. The Shapely Additive Explanations method is applied to analyze the contribution of each variable to the output within the HHO-CGB model, providing insights into the local and global influence of variables. The analysis reveals that the depth of the column, length of the column, and axial loading exert the most significant influence on the ultimate shear strength of RC columns. A user-friendly graphical interface tool is then developed based on the HHO-CGB to facilitate practical and cost-effective usage.

High-rise building shapes are changing from orthogonal to irregular form and the current trend is to arrange members in geometric grid-patterns at the perimeter of buildings. This study proposes a simple model for the preliminary design of a hexagrid high-rise building. The size of the cross section is set to be different at each module and hexagrid unit, which is different from the previous studies in which all hexagrid members were the same. To examine the effect of hexagrid size on structural performance, 60-story hexagrid buildings with 1-, 2- and 4-story high modules are designed and analyzed. Maximum lateral displacement, steel tonnage, load carrying percentage of perimeter frame and combined strength ratio are compared for 15 buildings. As the lateral load carrying capacity of hexagrid structure was inferior to a diagrid structural system, proper lateral stiffness should be allocated to the core frame in a hexagrid structure. The best ratio of flexural to shear deformation was 4 and larger unit size was better in considering constructional cost and structural efficiency. As the maximum lateral displacements of the buildings were within 84%~108% of the limit, the proposed method seems to be applicable to preliminary design of hexagrid buildings.

LNG (liquefied natural gas) is considered the best alternative eco-fuel, and many studies on the LNG fuel system have been performed to use LNG as the fuel for ships. For the LNG fuel supply system, natural gas transfers from the vaporizer to the engine in the gaseous state with a temperature of $50^{\circ}C$ and a pressure of 35MPa. Therefore, a structural safety evaluation of the double-walled pipelines considering thermal load is essential. In this article, an uniaxial tensile test for super duplex stainless steel, material for double-walled pipe, according to the annealing time was carried out to analyze the thermal effect. In addition, thermo-structural analysis of the high temperature-high pressure double-walled pipe with fixed supports that are now used widely was carried out to evaluate the structural safety. To minimize stress concentration of the connection point between the support and inner pipe, the shapes of the new type support that can slip through inner pipe were proposed, and the supports which has best structural performance was selected using the results from the thermo-structural analyses of new supports and an analysis of the whole double-walled pipeline was performed to ensure structural safety. These results can be used as a database for the design of double-walled pipelines and sliding support.
To study the evaluation standard and control limit of mortar filling layer void length, in this paper, the train sub-model was developed by MATLAB and the track-bridge sub-model considering the mortar filling layer void was established by ANSYS. The two sub-models were assembled into a train-track-bridge coupling dynamic model through the wheel-rail contact relationship, and the validity was corroborated by the coupling dynamic model with the literature model. Considering the randomness of fastening stiffness, mortar elastic modulus, length of mortar filling layer void, and pier settlement, the test points were designed by the Box-Behnken method based on Design-Expert software. The coupled dynamic model was calculated, and the support vector regression (SVR) nonlinear mapping model of the wheel-rail system was established. The learning, prediction, and verification were carried out. Finally, the reliable probability of the amplification coefficient distribution of the response index of the train and structure in different ranges was obtained based on the SVR nonlinear mapping model and Latin hypercube sampling method. The limit of the length of the mortar filling layer void was, thus, obtained. The results show that the SVR nonlinear mapping model developed in this paper has a high fitting accuracy of 0.993, and the computational efficiency is significantly improved by 99.86%. It can be used to calculate the dynamic response of the wheel-rail system. The length of the mortar filling layer void significantly affects the wheel-rail vertical force, wheel weight load reduction ratio, rail vertical displacement, and track plate vertical displacement. The dynamic response of the track structure has a more significant effect on the limit value of the length of the mortar filling layer void than the dynamic response of the vehicle, and the rail vertical displacement is the most obvious. At 250 km/h - 350 km/h train running speed, the limit values of grade I, II, and III of the lengths of the mortar filling layer void are 3.932 m, 4.337 m, and 4.766 m, respectively. The results can provide some reference for the long-term service performance reliability of the ballastless track-bridge system of HRS.

In this paper, an EM sensing based prestressing force estimation method is proposed, in which it can estimate tensile force of PS tendon for PSC girder. The PSC girder has more improved performance than the general concrete girder by introducing the prestressing to the concrete. Thus the PSC girder bridge is widely constructed due to its high performance and low cost. However, the prestressing force has not been managed nevertheless it is major factor for the maintenance of the PSC girder bridge. The prestressing force was just measured during construction using jacking device and after that, it can not be managed. For this reason, this paper proposes a tensile force estimation method of PS tendon based on EM sensor. The permeability of ferroelectric material is changed according to the induced stress to the material, in which it can be measured using EM sensor. To measure the permeability of PS tendon, the EM sensor was fabricated and verified by performing the MTS test. The test was performed using 7-wire steel tendon under the 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 KN of tensile force. The permeability of PS tendon was gradually decreased according to the increasement of tensile force. The regression method was used to find the relation between permeability and stress. As a result, the permeability has linear relation with the tensile force of PS tendon and the pre-stressing force can be estimated by the derived estimation equation.

Presently, the location and direction information are certainly needed for the autonomous vehicle of the ship. Among them, the direction information is a essential elements to automatic steering system. And the gyro-compass, the magnetic-compass and the GPS compass are the sensor indicating the direction. The gyro-compasses are mainly used in the large-sized ship of the GMDSS(Global Maritime Distress & Safety System). The precision and the reliability of the gyro-compasses are excellent but big volume and high price are disadvantage. The magnetic-compass has relatively fine precision and inexpensive price. However, the disadvantage is in the influence by the magnetism object including the steel structure of a ship, and etc. In the case of the GPS compass, the true north is indicated according to the change of the location information but in case of the minimum number of satellites or stopping of a ship or exercise in the error range, the exact direction cannot be obtained. In this paper, the performance of the GPS compass was improved by using the least-square curve fitting method for the mutual trade off of the angle sensor. The algorithm which improves the precision of an azimuth by applying the weighted value according to the size of covariance error was proposed with GPS-compass and magnetic compass. The characteristic and the performance of the proposed algorithm were analyzed and verified through experimentation. The applicability of the proposed algorithm was shown through the experimental result.

In this study, the l/35 reduced-scale model experiment were conducted to investigate designed ventilation system performance at rescue station in tunnel fire. A model tunnel with 2 mm thick of steel, 10 m long, 0.19 m high and 0.26m was made by using Froude number scaling law. The cross-passages installing escape door at the center. were connected between accident tunnel and rescue tunnel. The n-heptane pool fire, $4cm\times4cm$, with heat release rate 698.97W were used as fire source. The fire source was located in the center and portal of accident tunnel as Worst case.. An operating ventilation system extracted smoke amount of 0.015 cms. The smoke temperature and carbon monoxide. concentration in cross-passage were measured to verify designed ventilation system. The results showed that, in center fire case without ventilation in accident tunnel, smoke did not propagated to rescue station. In portal tire case, smoke spreaded to rescue station without ventilation. But smoke did not propagated to rescue station with designed ventilation.
Concrete is a durable and cost-benefit construction material, however performance degradation occurs due to steel corrosion exposed to chloride attack. Penetration of chloride ion usually decreases due to hydrates formation and reduction of pores, and the reduced chloride behavior is considered through decreasing diffusion coefficient with time. In the work, HPC (High Performance Concrete) samples are prepared with 3 levels of W/B (water to binder) ratios of 0.37, 0.42, and 0.27 and 3 levels of replacement ratios of 0%, 30% and 50%. Several tests containing chloride diffusion coefficient, passed charge, and compressive strength are performed considering age effect of 28 days and 180 days. Chloride diffusion is more reduced in OPC concrete with lower W/B ratio and GGBFS concrete with 50% replacement ratio shows significant reduction of chloride diffusion in higher W/B ratio. At the age of 28 days, GGBFS concrete with 50% replacement ratio shows more rapid reduction of chloride diffusion than strength development, which reveals that abundant GGBFS replacement has effective resistance to chloride penetration even in the early-aged condition.

Steel pile foundations are widely used for offshore constructions due to their high bearing capacity and efficiency. Typically, offshore structures that have reached the end of their design life are required to be demolished. However, pile foundations are often left on site due to technical and economic limitations. The pile left on the site not only pollutes the environment, but can also cause obstacles for the construction of new structures. Therefore, research is required to completely eliminate these foundations at the site. In this study, a new type of double-wall pile foundation that can drastically reduce the pull-out load was conceptually proposed, and a series of model tests were performed to validate the performance of the double-wall pile foundation. The installation and extraction of the double-wall pile were simulated in dry sand in the model test, and the measured up-lift load was compared to that of the conventional pile. According to the result, the maximum up-lift load induced by the decommissioning of the double-wall pile was reduced by 45% when compared to the traditional pile in dense sand. This study verified the mechanism for reducing the up-lift load of the double-wall foundation and confirmed the possibility of completely decommissioning a pile that has reached the end of its nominal service life.

To investigate the exposure effect of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), we measured airborne total PAHs as an external dose, urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP) as an internal dose of PAHs exposure, and analyzed the relationship between urinary 1-OHP concentration and PAHs exposure. The study population contained 44 workers in steel-pipe coating and paint manufacture industries. The airborne PAHs was obtained during survey day, and urine were sampled at the end of shift. Personal information on age, body weight, height, eniployment duration, smoking habit, and alcohol consumption was obtained by a structured questionnaire. Airborne PAHs were analyzed by the gas chromatograph with mass selective detector. Urinary 1-OHP levels were analyzed by the high performance liquid chromatograph with ultraviolet wavelength detector. For statistical estimation, t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, arid regression analysis were executed by SPSS/PC (Windows version 10). The mean of environmental total PAHs was $87.8{\pm}7.81{\mu}g/m^3$. The mean concentration ($526.5{\pm}2.85{\mu}g/m^3$) of workers in steel-pipe coating industries using coal tar enamel was the higher than that ($17.5{\pm}3.36{\mu}g/m^3$) of workers in paint manufacture industries using coal tar paint. The mean of urinary 1-OHP concentration ($51.63{\pm}3.144{\mu}\;mol/mol$ creatinine) of workers in steel-pipe coating industries was the higher than that ($2.33{\pm}4.709{\mu}\;mol/mol$ creatinine) of workers in paint manufacture industries. The mean of urinary 1-OHP concentration of smokers was the higher than that of non-smokers. There was significant correlation between the urinary concentration of 1-OHP and the environmental concentration of PAHs (r=O.S48, p<0.001), pyrene(r=0.859, p<0.001), and urinary cotinine (r=0.324, p<0.05). The regression equation between the urinary concentration of 1-OHP in ${\mu}g/g$ creatinine($C_{1-OHP}$) and airborne concentration of PAHs (or pyrene) in ${\mu}g/m^3$ ($C_{PAHs}$ or Cpyrene) is: Log ($C_{1-OHP}$)=-0.650+0.889×Log($C_{PAHs}$), where $R^2=0.694$ and n=38 for p<0.001.Log ($C_{1-OHP}$)=1.087+0.707${\times}$Log(Cpyrene), where $R^2=0.713$ and n=38 for p<0.001. From the results of stepwise multiple regression analysis about 1-OHP, significant independents were total PAHs and urinary cotinine (adjusted $R^2=0.743$, p<0.001). In this study, there were significant correlation between the urinary concentration of 1-OHP and the airborne concentration of PAHs. The urinary 1-OHP was effective index as a biomarker of airborne PAHs in workplace. But it was influenced by non-occupational PAHs source, smoking.
