A Comparative Study of Computer Simulation using High-Speed Tensile Test Results with Actual Crash Test Results of DP Steels (복합조직강의 고속인장 결과를 이용한 컴퓨터 전산모사와 실제 충돌시험 결과와의 비교 연구)

  • Dual Phase (DP) steel which has a soft ferrite phase and a hard martensite phase reveals both high strength and high ductility and has received increased attention for use in automotive applications. To conduct structural analysis to verify vehicle safety, highly credible experimental results are required. In this study, tensile tests were performed in a strain rate range from $10^{-4}/s$ to 300/s for Sink Roll-Less (SRL) hot-dip metal coated sheets. Collision properties were estimated through simulation by LS-DYNA using the stress-strain curve obtained from the tensile test. The simulation results were compared with the actual crash test results to confirm the credibility of the simulation. In addition, a tensile test and a crash test with 2% prestrain and a baking (PB) specimen were evaluated identically because automotive steel is used after forming and painting. The mechanical behaviors were improved with an increasing strain rate regardless of the PB treatment. Thus, plastic deformation with an appropriate strain rate is expected to result in better formability and crash characteristics than plastic deformation with a static strain rate. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and absorbed energy up to 10% strain were improved even though the total elongation decreased after PB treatment, The results of the experimental crash test and computer simulation were slightly different but generally, a similar propensity was seen.

  • Flash butt weldability of 590MPa dual phase steel is carried out under micro metallographical examination and macro mechanical property tests. The objective of present study is to investigate the cause that brings on bond line fracture, and is to improve mechanical properties of the flash butt welded joint. The joint of flash butt welding has a superior tensile property, but has bad formability due to oxide formed at bond interface. The HAZ softening in the weld joint does not show. It was found that mechanical properties were increased with optimizing welding parameters and making application of oil dripping and post-weld heat treatment.

  • Resistance spot weldability of cold rolled 80kg/mm$^{2}$ and 45kg/mm$^{2}$ grade high strength steel sheets for automobile structure was investigated focussing on the influences of welding parameters such as welding current and welding time on the weld strength and the nugget formation. The results of this study showed that the optimum ranges of welding current for the grade 80 and grade 45 were 5.0 cycle(250 m sec.) It was also shown that the tensile shear strength of the resistance spot weld was strongly influenced by both current and time applied in welding procedure, however, the tensile shear strength was mainly affected by welding time for the higher strength steel.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Column connections using reinforced bar. The parameter of specimens is the area of each reinforced bar (SD40 : D13, D16, D19, D22, D25). The simple tensile experiment is conducted to 5 kinds of specimens. Estimating the load, displacement, and strain from each kind, we compared them to basic elementary type (Flange Type, Basic Type, DPA Type, DPB Type). In each specimen, We can get the yielding load obtained by the theoretical three failure modes which make it possible to predict the experimental results. Actually, through the comparison and analysis, we come to know that the experimental results and theoretical results are nealy the same. Further, we will exert to apply the connections using reinforced bar to construction of high-rise building.

  • Resistance spot welding has been widely used in the sheet metal joining processes because of low cost, high productivity and convenience. Recently, automobile and aerospace industries are trying to replace partly steel sheets with aluminum alloy sheets. But in the case of dissimilar materials, to apply resistance spot welding has been known to be very difficult owing to the effect of melting temperature. On this study, an effort was made to apply spot welding of dissimilar sheet metals, 2024 aluminum alloy and zinc coated steel sheet, evaluate the spot weld quality with tensile-shear strength test and nondestructive evaluation technique, C-scan image methodology. In this study results, as the current below 11 kA, melting of materials is not achieved well. Also as the current exceeds to 13.5 kA, the more spatters happen at welded zone and tensile-shear strength lowered. So, the feasibility of C-scan image technique proposed in the study is found to be suitable evaluation method for resistance spot weldability.

  • The high tensile strength of steel cable enabled the development of long span cable bridges which that a better tensile element can break the limitation of current bridge design. A carbon fiber has at least strength as steel cable and is very light material relatively. Due to its characteristics. commercial carbon fiber cables are already used in place of steel prestress tendons. This study proposes a parallel carbon fiber(CF) cable for cable based on NPWS and CFCC cables. Static and nonlinear analyses reveal that the CF cable develops much less stress than the NPWS cable cyclic loads.

  • Effects of manufacturing conditions, such as austenitizing temperature, patenting temperature and carbon content in steels, on mechanical properties, especially on reduction of area (RA), of hyper-eutectoid steel wires were investigated. RA increased and then decreased with transformation temperature. This was attributed to the presence of abnormal structures in steels transformed at low transformation temperatures and the occurrence of shear cracking during tensile testing of steels transformed at high transformation temperatures. The increase of austenitizing temperature resulted in the increased austenite grain size and consequently the decrease of RA. The decrease of RA with increasing the carbon content in steels was attributed to the increased fraction of cleavage fracture in tensile fractured surfaces.

  • To develop and understand dissimilar metals joining of Stainless steel and Copper, ultra-high speed laser lap welding was studied using single mode fiber laser in this study. SUS304 and Cu have large differences in materials properties, and Cu and Fe have no intermetallic compounds by typical binary phase of Cu and Fe system. In this study, ultra-high speed lap welds of SUS304 and Cu dissimilar metals using single-mode fiber laser was generated, and weldability of the weld fusion zone was evaluated using a tensile shear test. To understand the phenomenon of tensile shear load, weld fusion zone of interface weld area and fracture parts after tensile shear test were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis system. And it was confirmed that Cu was easily melting and penetrating in the grain boundaries of SUS304 because of low melting temperature. And high thermal conductivity of copper occurred dissipate heat energy rapidly. These properties cause the solidification cracking in weld zone.

  • This study was undertaken to determine tensile properties and low-cycle fatigue behavior of 0.6%C high carbon steel used of structural purposes at temperatures up to 500.deg.C. In the low-cycle fatigue test the upper limit was decided by elongation(i.e. the total strain range), while the lower limit was defined by the load (i.e. zero load). The following results were obtained. Both, the ultimate tensile strength and low-cycle fatigue resistance attain the maximum values near 250.deg.C. Above this temperature the values decrease rapidly as the temperature increases. The low-cycle fatigue resistance decreases whenever there is an increase of the total strain range. Because the hardness of cycle fatigued specimen correlates cyclic hardening and cyclic softening, therefore the hardness of cycle fatigued specimen is smaller than that of the nonfatigued specimen at room temperature and 500.deg.C but much larger than the hardness of the nonfatigued specimen near 250.deg.C.

  • To Recently, the buckling is easy to happen a thin plate and High Tensile Steel is used at the structure so that it is wide. Especially, the buckling is becoming important design criteria in the ship structure to use especially the High Tensile Steel. Consequently, it is important that we grasp the conduct after the buckling behaviour accurately at the stability of the body of ship structure. In this study, examined closely about conduct and secondary buckling after initial buckling of thin plate structure which receive compressive load according to various kinds aspect ratio under simply supported condition that make by buckling formula in each payment in advance nile to place which is representative construction of hull. Analysis method is F.E.M by ANSYS and complicated nonlinear behaviour to analyze such as secondary buckling.
