  • Tensile and J-R tests were carried out to estimate the effects of dynamic strain aging(DSA) on SA106Gr.C piping steel. Tensile tests were performed under temperature range RT to $400^{\circ}C$ md strain rates from $1.39{\times}10^{-4}\;to\;6.95{\times}10^{-2}/s$. Fracture toughness was tested in the temperature range RT to $350^{\circ}C$ and load-line displacement rates 0.4 and 4mm/min. The effects of DSA on the tensile properties were clearly observed for phenomena such serrated flow, variation of ultimate and yield stress, and negative stram rate sensitivity. However, the magnitude of serration and strength increase by DSA was relatively small. this may be due to high ratio of Mn to C. In addition, crack initiation resistance, Ji and crack growth resistance, dJ/da were reduced in the range of $200-300^{\circ}C$, where DSA appeared as serrated flow and UTS hardening. The temperature corresponding to minimum fracture resistance was shifted to higher temperature with increasing loading rate.

  • This paper aims to analyze the economic feasibility and investigate the possibility of elastic seismic design of wind-designed highrise concentrically braced frames considering change of mechanical properties of Korean steel under the strong wind and the low seismicity in Korea. To this end, first, highrise concentrically braced frames were designed considering strong wind load. And then, analyses of the economics of them were performed. The seismic performance evaluation of wind-designed highrise buildings was conducted using the response spectrum analysis procedure. Analysis results show that it is possible to save up to approximately 90% of the amount of steel on the 10% increase in steel strength without serviceability. However, with serviceability, the design sectional area of the steel with relatively high strength tends to increment considerably because of the lateral stiffness due to reduction of the inertia moment and so on. This point might apply to limitation of the steel with high tensile yield strength.

  • Experiments were conducted to investigate the sensitivity of steel plate oxidation with temperature in a simulated furnace. Used steel plates were a general steel and a high tensile steel. Porous media burner (PM burner) used in model furnace was made for uniform temperature profile. The surrounding temperature was controlled by adjusting the flow rate of the mixture in the combustor. Oxide layer analysis was performed using SEM image analysis and EDS line scanning. Both steel sheets showed a tendency to increase the thickness of the steel sheet surface oxide layer as the temperature increases, and it was confirmed that the flaking phenomenon in surface oxidation layer appeared when the temperature was above a certain temperature.

  • Many researchers have reported that adding steel fiber to concrete improved its tensile and flexural strength significantly, but relatively few studies have been made on the compressive behavior of SFRC(steel fiber reinforced concrete). It is still less in case of high strength SFRC. The main objective of this research is to examine the effect of adding steel fiber on the compressive strength of high strength SFRC using fiber reinforcing index$(RI,\;V_f(l/d))$. It was found from the study that compressive strength was noticeably increased in proportion to RI.

  • The aim of the paper is to present some results about the influence of rheological phenomena on steel-concrete composite beams. Both the cases of slab with normal and high performance concrete for one and two-span beams are analysed. A new finite element model that allows taking into account creep, shrinkage and cracking in tensile zones for concrete, along with non-linear behaviour of connection, steel beam and reinforcement, has been used. The main parameters that affect the response of the composite beam under the service load are highlighted. The influence of shrinkage on the slip over the supports is analysed, together with the cracking along the beam. At last, by performing a collapse analysis after a long-term analysis, the influence of rheological phenomena on the ductility demand of connection and reinforcement is analysed.

  • In this study, in order to improve the lifespan of parts made of manganese steel, manganese steel was cast by varying the amount of Ti added to the steel. In order to confirm the characteristics of the cast material, processing characteristics including tensile and surface characteristics and bearing ratio were investigated. It was confirmed that when the amount of Ti added to high manganese steel exceeds 0.5%, the strength of the alloy is improved due to grain refinement, and fine carbides are formed inside the steel. This results in increased resistance to surface wear compared to the alloy with only Mn added. There was no significant difference in the increase in tensile strength as the Ti content in manganese steel was increased. However, inclusion of Ti showed a small but greater effect on wear resistance compared to Mn, and the size and the distribution of carbides become coarse depending on the Ti content. and was evenly distributed. It was confirmed that the strength and surface properties of manganese steel can be improved by the addition of Ti to improve the lifespan of parts made with this steel. It was found that Ti is effective in developing materials with excellent wear resistance due to refinement of dendrite crystal grains. In the samples where Ti was added, the carbide appears to increase the resistance to surface roughness, and due to the nature of Mn steel, surface hardening begins to occur, which appears to extend the life.

  • This study is on the constant-current stress corrosion test related to the load stress in welded zone and non-welded zone of high tensile strength steel for natural gas transmission. The surface corrosion pattern of the welded zone of API 5L-X65 specimens for natural gas transmission showed global corrosion and narrow pitting, and the pitting was increased by increasing the load stress. Initially, the average relative electrode potential and the average relative current of the high tensile strength steel for natural gas transmission specimens was decreased suddenly, and the average relative electrode potential was higher and the average relative current was lower in welded zone than base metal. and the average relative electrode potential was decreased by increasing the load stress, and the average relative current was somewhat increased by increasing the load stress. The corrosion rate was less in welded zone than base metal, and the corrosion rate was decreased by increasing the load stress.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of joinability by using acoustic emission(AE) signals and doing a pattern recognition for weld heat affected zone(HAZ) in tensile testing. This study was carried out an SWS 490A high tension steel for electric shielded metal arc welding(SMAW), $CO_2$ gas arc welding and TIG welding. And correspondingly, the root openings are 3, 4 and 2.8mm. The results of the tensile test of weld HAZ come out electric shield arc welding $>\;CO_2$ gas arc welding > TIG welding in case of single welding. It is believed that this is a phenomenon where difference of its root opening or base metal thickness. Also, the technique of AE is ideally suited to study variables which control time and stress dependent fracture or damage process in metallic materials.

  • This paper represents the s-cam manufacturing process with the high-carbon steel like S45C using laser welding system. Laser welding of the high-carbon steel is generally difficult because of hardening of the weld zone. Also, existing s-cam manufacturing process, electric resistance welding system, have some problems like increase of production and development cost. To solve those problems, we are introduced the laser welding system with the pre-heating system for precision welding of s-cam with separated shaft and cam part. S-cam manufactured with optimum laser welding conditions is verified the performance like tensile strength, torsional strength and fatigue test. Strength and fatigue test results are described.
