Reinforced concrete (RC) does not provide sufficient resistance against impacts and blast loads, and the brittle structure of RC fails to protect against fractures due to the lack of shock absorption. Investigations on improving its resistance against explosion and impact have been actively conducted on high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCCs), such as fiber-reinforced concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete. For these HPFRCCs, however, tensile strength and toughness are still significantly lower compared to compressive strength due to their limited fiber volume fraction. Therefore, in this study, the tensile behavior of slurry-infiltrated fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (SIFRCCs), which can accommodate a large number of steel fibers, was analyzed under static and dynamic loading to improve the shortcomings of RC and to enhance its explosion and impact resistance. The fiber volume fractions of SIFRCCs were set to 4%, 5%, and 6%, and three strain rate levels (maximum strain rate: 250 s-1) were applied. As a result, the tensile strength exceeded 15 MPa under static load, and the dynamic tensile strength reached a maximum of 40 MPa. In addition, tensile characteristics, such as tensile strength, deformation capacity, and energy absorption capacity, were improved as the fiber volume fraction and strain rate increased.
The effect of welding speed on the weldability, microstructures, hardness, tensile property of Nd:YAG laser welding joint in 600MPa grade precipitation hardening high strength steel was investigated. A shielding gas was not used, and bead-on-plate welding was performed using various welding speeds at a power of 3.5kW. Porosity in the joints occurred at 1.8m/min, but were not observed over the welding speed of 2.1m/min. However, spatter occurred over the welding speed of 6.6m/min. The hardness was the highest at heat affected zone(HAZ) near fusion zone(FZ), and was decreased on approaching to the base metal. The maximum hardness increased with increasing welding speed. The microstructure of FZ was composed of coarse grain boundary ferrite and bainite(upper) but the HAZ near the FZ contained bainite(Lower) and fine ferrite at a low welding speed. With increasing welding speed, ferrite at the FZ and the HAZ became finely and upper binite changed to lower bainite. In a perpendicular tensile test to the weld line, all specimens were fractured at the base metal, and the tensile strength and the yield strength of joints was equal to those of raw material. Elongation was found to be lower than that of the raw material.
Steel spherical hinged bearings have high loading capacity, reliable load transfer, flexible rotation with universal hinge and allowance of large displacement and rotation angle. However, bearings are in complex forced states subject to various load combinations, which lead to the significant influence on integral structural safety. Taking the large-tonnage complex steel spherical hinged bearings of Terminal 2 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport as an example, full-scale rotation and shear behaviour tests of the bearings subject to axial tensile load are carried out, and the corresponding finite element simulation analyses are conducted. The results of experiments and finite element simulations are in good agreement with the coincident development tendency of stress and deformation. In addition, the measured rotational moment is less than the calculated moment prescriptive by the code, and the relationship between horizontal displacement and horizontal shear force is linear. Finally, based on these results, the rotation and shear stiffness models of bearings subject to axial tensile load are proposed for the refinement analysis of integral structure.
In the present study, we investigated whether the surface oxidation of C-bearing TWIP steel ℃curs in the air during specimen delivery from an annealing furnace to a water bath and how the microstructure and tensile properties are influenced by surface oxidation. A cold-rolled Fe-18Mn-0.6 (wt%) steel was exposed in the air for 5 s after annealing at various temperatures (750℃, 850℃ and 1000℃) for 10 min in a vacuum, and then water-quenched. For comparison, another specimen, which had been quartz-sealed in a vacuum, was annealed at 1000℃ for 10 min and immediately water-quenched without exposure to air. The 750℃ and 850℃-annealed specimens and the quartz-sealed specimen showed a γ-austenite single phase in the entire specimen due to negligible surface oxidation. However, the 1000℃-annealed specimen exhibited a dual-phase microstructure consisting of ε-martensite and γ-austenite at the sub-surface due to decarburization. Whereas the specimens without decarburization revealed high elongations of 70-80%, the decarburized specimen exhibited a low elongation of ~40%, indicating premature failure due to cracking inside the decarburized layer with ε-martensite and γ-austenite.

As ships become larger, thicker and higher tensile steel plate are used in shipyard. Though special chemical compositions are required for high-tensile steels, recently they are made by the TMCP (Thermo-Mechanical control process) methodology. The increased Yield / Tensile strength of TMCP steels compared to the normalized steel of same composition are induced by suppressing the formation of Ferrite and Pearlite in favor of strong and tough Bainite while being transformed from Austenite. But this Bainite phase could be vanished by another additional thermal cycle like welding and heating. As thermal deformations are deeply related by yield stress of material, the study for prediction of plate deformation by heating should niflect the principle of TMCP steels. The present study is related to the development of an algorithm which could calculate inherent strain. In this algorithm, not only the mechanical principles of thermal deformations, but also the initial portion of Bainite is considered when calculating inherent strain. Distortion analysis results by these values showed good agreements with experimental results for normalized steels and TMCP steels during welding and heating. This algorithm has also been used to create an inherent strain database of steels in Class rule.

The production technology of high strength and toughness wear resistance steel involves attempt to application of severe wear parts for the construction machinery. A well balanced alloy content ensures that optimum tensile properties are achieved for the high strength. After high temperature deformation like as rolling or forging it has bainite microstructure and lower yield rato(under 80%) The effectiveness of the research approach is illustrated with experimental results on good steel cleanliness(O2 :12.2 ppm, 0,004% S, 0.008%, P nonmetalic inclusion dT: 0.10) and excellent mechanical properties (TS$\geq$140kgf/mm2 El $\geq$10% IV$\geq$20j/cm2) Therefore this should be wear resistance steel which develops high strength and high toughness without heat treatment
This study investigated the yielding capacity and performance of seismic dampers constructed with steel ring plates using numerical and analytical approaches. This study aims to provide an analytical relationship for estimating the yielding capacity and initial stiffness of steel ring dampers. Using plastic analysis and considering the mechanism of plastic hinge formation, a relation has been obtained for estimating the yielding capacity of steel ring dampers. Extensive parametric studies have been carried out using a nonlinear finite element method to examine the accuracy of the obtained analytical relationships. The parametric studies include investigating the influence of the length, thickness, and diameter of the ring of steel ring dampers. To this end, comprehensive verification studies are performed by comparing the numerical predictions with several reported experimental results to demonstrate the numerical method's reliability and accuracy. Comparison is made between the hysteresis curves, and failure modes predicted numerically or obtained/observed experimentally. Good agreement is observed between the numerical simulations and the analytical predictions for the yielding force and initial stiffness. The difference between the numerical models' ultimate tensile and compressive capacities was observed that average of about 22%, which stems from the performance of the ring-dampers in the tensile and compression zones. The results show that the steel ring-dampers are exhibited high energy dissipation capacity and ductility. The ductility parameters for steel ring-damper between values were 7.5 to 4.1.

This study investigates the effects of nano silica (NS) and micro steel fiber on the properties of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). The experimental consists of three groups, each one with five percentages of NS content (0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%) in addition to the 20% silica fume and 20% quartz powder proportioned according to the weight of cement added to the mixtures. In addition, three percentages of micro steel fibers (0%, 1% and 2%) were considered. Different mixtures with varying percentages of NS and micro steel fibers were prepared to set the water-to-binder ratio, such as 0.16% and 1.8% superplasticizer proportioned according the weight of the binder materials. The fresh properties, mechanical properties and elevated temperatures of the mixtures were calculated. Then, the results from the microstructure analyses were compared with that of the reference mixtureand it was found that 6% replacement of cement with NS was optimum replacement level. When the NS content was increased from 0% to 6%, the air content and permeability of the mixture decreased by 35% and 39%, the compressive and tensile strength improved by 21% and 18% and the flexural strength and modulus of elasticity increased by 20% and 11.5%, respectively. However, the effect of micro steel fibres on the compressive strength was inconclusive. The overall results indicate that micro steel fibres have the potential to improve the tensile strength, flexure strength and modulus of elasticity of the UHPC. The use of 6% NS together with 1% micro-steel fiber increased the concrete strength and reduce the cost of concrete mix.
The effects of alloying elements and the cooling condition on the microstructure, tensile properties, and Charpy impact properties of high-strength bainitic steel plates fabricated by a controlled rolling process were investigated in the present study. Eight kinds of steel plates were fabricated by varying C, Cr, and Nb additions under two different cooling rates, and their microstructures and tensile and Charpy impact properties were evaluated. The microstructures present in the steels increased in the order of granular bainite, acicular ferrite, bainitic ferrite, and martensite as the carbon equivalent or cooling rate increased, which resulted in a decrease in the ductility and Charpy absorbed energy. The steels containing a considerable amount of bainitic ferrite or martensite showed very high strengths, together with good ductility and Charpy absorbed energy. In order to achieve the best combination of strength, ductility, and Charpy absorbed energy, granular bainite and acicular ferrite were properly included in the high-strength bainitic steels by controlling the carbon equivalent and cooling rate, while about 50 vol.% of bainitic ferrite or martensite was maintained to maintain the high strength.

The mechanical properties, press formability and texture of a TWIP steel were investigated. This steel combines both high strength and high ductility due to so called TWIP effect which are related to the microstructural changes. The formation of twins during deformation leads to an increase of its mechanical properties. In this study, the texture and mechanical properties evolutions of a TWIP steel subjected to tensile tests and press trials at room temperature were investigated in relation to the feasibility of the application to automotive body parts.
