The use of Compaction Grouting evolved in the 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major uses of Compaction Grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other application include preventing liquefaction, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. The technique replaced slurry injection, or 'pressure grouting', as the preferred method of densification grouting. There are several reasons for the increased use of Compaction Grouting which can be summarized in one word: CONTROL. The low slump grout and injection processes are usually designed to keep the grout in a homogeneous mass at the point of injection, while acceptable in some limited applications, tends to quickly get out of control. Hydraulic soil fracturing can cause extensive grout travel, often well beyond the desired treatment zone. So, on the basis of the two case history constructed in recent year, a study has been peformed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting and verify the effectiveness of the ground improvement using some test methods.

The development of the oil refining industry has resulted in an annual 120 million tons of sulphur, which is a by-product of the desulphurization process. To exploit this abundance, the applications of sulphur must be expanded. as excellent durability of reuse of leftover sulphur which has high potential for utilization in construction materials, the study is actively in progress. Meanwhile, there has been active research on semi-rigid pavements that draw on the strengths and overcome the weaknesses of asphalt and concrete pavements. Acrylate is used to prevent cracking but involves a high cost, thus, an alternative material is required. As such, this study presents methods on the reuse of leftover sulphur and examines the engineering performance of grout containing sulfur polymer emulsion (SPE) for use in semi-rigid pavements. Our analysis shows that grout in which 30% of acrylate is replaced with SPE has superior properties in terms of time of flow and strength compared to regular grout. However, performance declined when more than 50% of acrylate was replaced by SPE, indicating that the optimum replacement level is 30%. Through SEM analysis, we found that grout with utra harding cement in this study at three hours had similar hydration properties to that of Type 1 Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) at seven days, and maintained the properties regardless of grout containing SPE. OPC and grout with a replacement level of 30% displayed similar levels of chloride invasion resistance, whereas grout without SPE was far less resistant. Within the scope of this paper, the optimum replacement level of acrylate with SPE was found to be 30% in consideration of various properties such as time of flow, strength, and chloride invasion resistance.
Nowadays , the grouted-reinforcing method, which is called FRP(Fiberglass-reinforced-plastic) pipe .reinforcing method, has been introduced in the community of pound reinforcements. The resistance to corrosion and chemical attack high strength to weight ratio, and ease of handling make these pipes a better alternative to steels in tunnel. However, to fully utilize FRP pipes as grouted reinforcing members at the face and the crown in tunnel, their mechanical properties and behaviors and the grout-reinforced underground have to be verified. Laboratory shear tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties for FRP pipes, the grout-reinforced members and the grout-reinforced body of FRP pipes. According to the test results, it was observed that FRP pipes play a dominant role in shearing behavior of the grout-reinforced members and that their shearing resistance exerts after the shearing displacement increases to some extent.

This study evaluated the fire resisting capacity and post-fire serviceability of the concrete beams retrofitted by near surface mounted method(NSM) using GFRP plates. Main parameters in the test are grout materials and fire exposure. For the test, two types of grout materials between concrete substrate and GFRP plate were used; flame resisting epoxy and filling mortar. Four RC beam specimens were made and two of them were exposed to fire according to real scale fire curve proposed KS F 2257. After the fire exposure test, flexural test were performed to investigate the flexural performance of concrete beams including strength and deformation. From the test results, it was found that the beam retrofitted by NSM-GFRP presented higher flexural strength than that of the beam without retrofit, which indicates NSM-GFRP retrofit technologies is effective to maintain flexural strength even after fire exposure. In addition, the specimens grouted by epoxy showed good performance in strength but bad performance in ductility.
Steel-precast ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) composite beams with demountable high-strength friction-grip bolt (HSFGB) shear connectors can be used for accelerated bridge construction (ABC) and achieve excellent structural performance, which is expected to be dismantled and recycled at the end of the service life. However, no investigation focuses on the demountability and reusability of such composite beams, as well as the installation difficulties during construction. To address this issue, this study conducted twelve push-out tests to investigate the effects of assembly condition, bolt grade, bolt-hole clearance, infilling grout and pretension on the crack pattern, failure mode, load-slip/uplift relationship, and the structural performance in terms of ultimate shear strength, friction resistance, shear stiffness and slip capacity. The experimental results demonstrated that the presented composite beams exhibited favorable demountability and reusability, in which no significant reduction in strength (less than 3%) and stiffness (less than 5%), but a slight improvement in ductility was observed for the reassembled specimens. Employing oversized preformed holes could ease the fabrication and installation process, yet led to a considerable degradation in both strength and stiffness. With filling the oversized holes with grout, an effective enhancement of the strength and stiffness can be achieved, while causing a difficulty in the demounting of shear connectors. On the basis of the experimental results, more accurate formulations, which considered the effect of bolt-hole clearance, were proposed to predict the shear strength as well as the load-slip relationship of HSFGBs in steel-precast UHPC composite beams.

The study investigates the effects of the content and using method of chemical admixtures such as superplasticizer and viscosity modifying admixture on the fluidity, bleeding ratio, volumetric change and compressive strength of the grout in order to provide basic data for the development of high-quality grout for prestressed concrete. It appeared that the combination of superplasticizer and viscosity modifying admixture decreased the fluidity of grout with small content of superplasticizer. On the contrary, Grout used more than 0.1% of superplasticizer appeared to have significant effect on the improvement of the fluidity. On the other hand, bleeding of grout reduced according to increasing the content of viscosity modifying admixture. Superplasticizer with less than 0.05% had practically no effect on the reduction of bleeding, whereas superplasticizer with more than 0.1% appear to have significant effect on the reduction of bleeding. Also the combination of superplasticizer with 0.15% and viscosity modifying admixture with 0.15% resulted in satisfactory fluidity accompanied with fair reduction of bleeding and shrinkage of the grout.

With increasing underwater structure construction, there is high interest in offshore foundation and underwater grout and various study has been done in this area. For grout materials constructed underwater, it may be washed away by water or easily disturbed and material separation phenomenon during curing period always happens. As a result, it is difficult to ensure construction quality and this has a significant influence on the design strength of structure. In this study, to understand application effects of anti-washout admixture for the preplaced construction method, where grout is injected in monopile after filled with aggregates, laboratory tests on bleeding and compressive strength of anti-washout admixture were performed under various test conditions varying size of aggregate, water and cement ratio and admixture, and test results were compared and evaluated.
In order to ground reinforcement, the chemical grouting, the anchor, the soil nailing system, the micropile, etc. can be mentioned by the methods widely used in domestic. The above ground reinforcement methods are developed by various methods depending on the type of reinforcement, installation method, presence of prestress, grouting method, etc. However, in common, the strength of reinforcement, the friction force of grout and reinforcement and the friction force of grout and ground are the main design variables. Therefore, the optimized ground reinforcement is a material with a high tensile strength of the reinforcement itself, the friction force between the reinforcement and the grout is high, and the application of an optimal grouting method is necessary to improve the friction force between the grout and the ground. In this study, a total of 20 model tests were conducted to analyze the reinforcement effects according to the shape of the reinforcement and the grouting method. As a result of the test, As a result of the experiment, it is judged that the reinforcing effect is superior to the perforated + wing type reinforcement and post grouting method.

A concrete core is used widely as lateral stability systems in high-rise modular buildings. As an alternative to traditional cast in-situ core, the precast concrete(PC) method can accelerate the construction of reinforced concrete cores. A core composed of precast elements differs from a in-situ core in having connections between the precast elements. The typical vertical connection between PC panels is consisted of shear keys, loop bars, lacer bars and grout. In this study, the effect of vertical connection components on shear strength is investigated experimentally. The test results show that the contribution to the shear strength is greater in order of grout strength, shear keys, lacer bars and loop bars. In addition, the numerical models to estimate the shear strength according to two crack patterns in the vertical joint of the PC panels are derived. The feasibility of the numerical models is evaluated by comparing the estimated shear strength and the test results.
Among many connection methods of reinforcing bar, the grout-filled splice sleeve system is very effective method of precast concrete construction due to its superior construction efficiency, such as large allowable limit to arrangement of reinforcing bars, good application of large sized reinforcing bars. In this study, totally 20 full-sited specimens were made and tested under monotonic and cyclic loading in order to extend the usage range of grout-filled splice sleeve system. The experimental variables adopted in this study are size of reinforcing bars embedded in upper and lower part of sleeve and compressive strength of filled mortar etc. After test was performed, the results were compared and analyzed with respect to previous test of author. Following main conclusions are obtained : 1) The structural performance of splice sleeve system is improved with increasing compressive strength of filled mortar. And also it was verified that the splice sleeve system with over 700 kgf/㎠ mortar compressive strength and over 6.54 development length of reinforcing bar retains the structural performance of over A class(AIJ Criteria). 2) In the case of using different size of reinforcing bars embedded in upper and lower part of sleeve, the result show that splice sleeve matching with large sized reinforcing bar must be used. And also up to 2 level smaller size of reinforcing bar compared to large reinforcing bar embedded in sleeve can be used.
