A prediction of maximum operation speed for the catenary using tunnel bracket (터널 브래킷을 사용한 가선시스템의 최고속도 예측 및 검토)

  • The catenary system supported by the tunnel bracket which has been used uniquely in KNR was selected as the catenary inside narrow existing tunnel in the electrification of Kyeung-Bu Line for operation of Korea High Speed Train(KTX). It was demanded to judge the maximal operable speed of KTX in this catenary system to implement the planning. To do this, the tunnel bracket was firstly tested to obtain the characteristic data. The stiffness of this bracket are computed depending on the location which catenary installed on. Moreover, the catenary using tunnel bracket is modelled numerically respecting the bracket stiffness. Based on these, the dynamics between this catenary and KTX pantograph are simulated with the program developed by ourselves independently. The simulation result are evaluated according to the generally acceptable criteria. Consequently, the maximal operable speed of KTX in the catenary using KNR(Korean National Railroad) tunnel bracket is predicted and some items which are needed to be kept in the processing of implementation are drawn.

  • The introduction of KTX(Korea Train Express) has brought an historic change to the overall transit system in Korea. Especially, the high-speed railway stations are expanding the scope as public transit centers. However, we cannot deny that the evaluation on the high-speed railway stations had not been performed successfully so far. The evaluation covers from the connectivity of the scope from door to the stations and the transfer service in the interior of stations. We developed the service evaluation indicators of transfer facilities in the high-speed railway stations. The indicators consist of level of service(LOS), the propriety of allocation, and the quality of information throughout the facilities in the centers. We examined the 7 stations in Korea and standardized the methodology of the evaluation process by applying the indicators. Also, the evaluation is performed easy for anyone to follow.

  • The ballast, one of a track components, plays an essential role as intermedium in transmitting train traffic-load to subgrade safely, and deterioration of ballast caused by cumulative load effects growth of track irregularity. Especially in the case of Gyeongbu high-speed railway, the deteriorating speed of ballast by dynamic vibration is faster than conventional line because KTX is longer than normal trains in length and it's velocity is very fast with high speed of 300km/h as well. In addition, ballast is a nonlinear material contrary to ordinary metal which has homogeneous property and this property of ballast may cause transformation of ballast. Therefore the theoretical modeling of ballast is quite complicated and it is hard to ensure the reliability of the result. The objective of this paper is to examine the availability of GPR(Ground Penetrating Radar) in estimating the thickness and the degree of deterioration of ballast. First, We figured out the principle of GPR which is the technique of evaluating the condition of ballast and then analyzed data which were measured at Gyeongbu high-speed railway where KTX is running now.

  • KTX will be operated on Kyun-Pu High Speed Railroad Line around end of 2,003 and KHST(G7 Korea High Speed Train) will be carried out the development running test at Kyun-Pu High Speed Railroad Line from middle of 2002. By the way, the conventional Ho-Nam railroad line was passed the limit capacity of transportation at some area from 1997. For solving of this matter, Ho-Nam railroad line need new high speed railroad line for high transportation capacity of passengers now. This report was studied about the rolling stock system design used new technology of KHST and KTX for Ho-Nam High Speed Railroad.

  • When the high speed train (KTX) departs from station in the high-speed line, sometimes on board signal disappears, which causes a hindrance of the operation punctuality, therefore, we have a research objective to verify the causes of hindrance and to find an improvement plan. In the process of research, when train left, we applied sand on the rail to improve adhesive power, whose sand has an effect on the ATC(Automatic Train Control) signal wave. Fatigue Life Evaluation of Motor Block Bracket Units for KTX-Sancheon Trains (KTX-산천 열차용 모터 감속기 고정대의 피로 수명 평가)

  • In this study, fatigue life of the motor block bracket units for KTX-Sancheon trains was assessed. Design evaluation for railway structures was performed based on the UIC 566 regulation, and test and evaluation of fatigue life in welded parts was performed in accordance with standard ERRI B 12/RP17 and ERRI B 12/RP60. The actual vehicle dynamic stress testing was executed in KTX-Sancheon service line with the service operating speed. The dynamic stress was measured with commercial data acquisition system (MGC plus). The cumulative damage was evaluated by applying standard BS 7608 - Class F and cycle counting was used rain-flow counting method. As a result, the motor block bracket units for KTX-Sancheon trains was designed to fit the regulation and the safety of fatigue life for 30 years, assuming that KTX-Sancheon trains travels 600,000km annually, were confirmed under current operating conditions.

  • This report was studied about speed-up for main line of KNR(Korea National Railroad) by High Speed Train. The maximum speed of Kyun-Pu line was recorded a 140km/h by Saemaul train in 1985 and the average speed its is a 107km/h now. For operation KTX Kyun-Pu High Speed Train and G7 Korea High Speed Train in KNR line, this report was studied about operation status of High Speed Train in advanced countries, operation situation of train in KNR line and plan of speed-up for main line.

However, it is evident that the evaluation on the high-speed railway stations had not been performed successfully thus far. The most important element of the evaluation is the connectivity of the departure point to the arriving stations and also the internal transfer service stations. We developed the service evaluation indicators of transfer facilities in the high-speed railway stations. The indicators are comprised of the level of service (LOS), the propriety of allocation, and the quality of information throughout the facilities in the centers. We examined the 7 stations in Korea that are currently in operation and standardized the methodology of the evaluation process by applying the indicators suggested in this study.

  • This thesis paper is on the management of Energy Storage System for the catenary source stabilization of KTX's high-speed train section. It is the algorism that is to utilize on the voltage drop at the end and peak power suppression of the substation by supplying from the end, compensating consuming energy when the KTX retrogresses, by installing Energy Storage System at the end of the substation where is the section post. The algorism which this thesis is to utilize is verified through the catenary voltage modeling and simulation of the power conversion system, and the system validity of the Korail's Yongjeong section post which is currently in management is in the application review phase.
