A Word Dictionary Structure for the Postprocessing of Hangul Recognition (한글인식 후처리용 단어사전의 기억구조)

  • In the postprocessing of Hangul recognition system, the storage structure of contextual information is an important matter for the recognition rate and speed of the entire system. Trie in general is used to represent the context as word dictionary, but the memory space efficiency of the structure is low. Therefore we propose a new structure for word dictionary that has better space efficiency and the equivalent merits of trie. Because Hangul is a compound language, the language can be represented by phonemes or by characters. In the representation by phonemes(P-mode) the retrieval is fast, but the space efficiency is low. In the representation by characters(C-mode) the space efficiency is high, but the retrieval is slow. In this paper the two representation methods are combined to form a hybrid representation(H-mode). At first an optimal level for the combination is selected by two characteristic curves of node utilization and dispersion. Then the input words are represented with trie structure by P-mode from the first to the optimal level, and the rest are represented with sequentially linked list structure by C-mode. The experimental results for the six kinds of word set show that the proposed structure is more efficient. This result is based on the fact that the retrieval for H-mode is as fast as P-mode and the space efficiency is as good as C-mode.

  • Turbo- or Super-charging has been used to boost engine power for Gasoline- and Diesel Engine since beginning of 20th century. So far turbo-charger has enjoyed a high reputation in the charging field for its technical advantages such as no demand of operation power from engine and an excellent charging effect in a static operation at mid- and high engine speed. A mechanically driven super-charger, however, is now popular due to the high engine power at quick change of the driving mode - high engine torque even at low engine speed. Since super-charger needs operation power from engine, it is difficult to improve its relatively higher fuel consumption than that of turbo-charger. This negative point is still an obstacle to the wide use of supercharger. Super-charger using screw-type compressor will fulfill the purpose to reduce fuel consumption by minimizing operation power owing to no charge at idling or part load driving condition. This study aims to develop power control concept to achieve the minimization of operation power. A screw type super-charger was modified in design partially and installed with an internal bypass valve and a bypass tube to control charging pressure at part load. The various control concepts show a possibility to reduce operation power of super-charger.

A Single Inductor Dual Output Synchronous High Speed DC-DC Boost Converter using Type-III Compensation for Low Power Applications

  • This paper presents a high speed synchronous single inductor dual output boost converter using Type-III compensation for power management in smart devices. Maintaining multiple outputs from a single inductor is becoming very important because of inductor the sizes. The uses of high switching frequency, inductor and capacitor sizes are reduced. Owing to synchronous rectification this kind of converter is suitable for SoC. The phase is controlled in time sharing manner for each output. The controller used here is Type-III, which ensures quick settling time and high stability. The outputs are stable within $58{\mu}s$. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a better overall performance. The input voltage is 1.8V, switching frequency is 5MHz, and the inductor used is 600nH. The output voltages and powers are 2.6V& 3.3V and 147mW &, 230mW respectively.

  • This paper presents an experimental and parametric study of a biomimetic fish robot actuated by the Lightweight Piezo-composite Actuator(LIPCA). The biomimetic aspects in this work are the oscillating tail beat motion and shape of caudal fin. Caudal fins that resemble fins of BCF(Body and Caudal fin) mode fish were made in order to perform parametric study concerning the effect of caudal fin characteristics on thrust production at an operating frequency range. The observed caudal fin characteristics are the shape, area, and aspect ratio. It was found that a high aspect ratio caudal fin contributes to high swimming speed. The fish robot was propelled by artificial caudal fins shaped after thunniform-fish and mackerel caudal fins, which have relatively high aspect ratio, produced swimming speed as high as 2.364 cm/s and 2.519 cm/s, respectively, for 300 Vpp input voltage excited at 0.9 Hz. Thrust performance of the biomimetic fish robot was examined by Strouhal number, Froude number, Reynolds number, and Net forward force.

High Temperature Properties of the High Speed Steel Roll of Hot Finishing Mill (열간 압연용 고속도강 롤의 고온 특성)

  • High temperature properties such as hot hardness and thermal fatigue resistance of high speed steel roll of hot finishing mill have been investigated. Two kinds of roll having compositions, Fe-1.75%C-5.9%Cr-1.74%Mo-4.94%V-2.03%W(A specimen) and Fe-2.27%C-8.86%Cr-2.91%Mo-3.92%V-1.86%W(B specimen)were prepared for investigating the microstructure and crack propagation mode. A specimen has greater amounts of $M_7C_3$ type carbides and less amounts of MC type carbides in comparison with B specimen. Hot hardness showed sudden decrease over $400^{\circ}C$, resulting in the hardness decrease of 50% at the temperature of $600^{\circ}C$, and showed little variation with time at $500^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$. Thermal crack was developed at $550^{\circ}C$ in A specimen and $600^{\circ}C$ in B specimen.

  • A Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) has double salient poles structure and the phase windings are wound in stator. SRM hase more simple structure that of other motor, thus manufacture cost is low, mechanically strong, reliable to a poor environment such as high temperature, and maintenance cost is low because of brushless. SRM needs position detector to get rotator position information for phase excitation and tachometer or encoder for constant speed operation. But, this paper doesn\`s use an encoder of high cost for velocity measurement of rotator. Instead of it, the algorithm for position detection and velocity estimation from simple slotted disk has been proposed and developed. To implement variable speed digital control system with velocity estimation algorithm, the TMS320F240-20MIPS fixed point arithmetic processor of TI corporation is used. The experimental results of the developing system are enable to control speed with wide range, not only single pulse, hard chopping mode and soft chopping, ut also variable speed control, and advance angle control.

  • In this paper. the pneumatic service robot with a hybrid type is developed. A pneumatic has the advantages of good compliance , high Payload-to-weight and payload-to-volume ratios. high speed and force capabilities. Using pneumatic actuators. which have low stiffness. the service robot can guarantee safety. By suggesting a new serial-parallel hybrid type for the service robot which separates into Positioning motion and orienting motion, we can achieve large workspace and high strength-to-moving-weight ratio at the same time. A sliding mode controller can be designed for tracking the desired output using the Lyapunov stability theory and structural properties of pneumatic servo systems. Through many experiments of circular trajectory. the Pneumatic service robot is evaluated and verified.

  • This paper presents the hardness and friction characteristics of pb-free pin-bush bearing metal, which is manufactured by a centrifugal casting technology. A bronze metal with a high hardness and low friction properties is usually used for Diesel engine pin-bush bearing and high pressure cylinder. Pb-free metal for pin-bush bearings shows a little high hardness of 120 Hv compared with that of a conventional Pb bearing metal of 100~110 Hv. In general, the friction coefficient of pin-bush bearings is affected by a rotating speed and a load for various rubbing contact modes. But a contact load is more influential parameter when the contact rubbing mode transits from a mixed lubrication to a dry friction contact. The experimental result shows that the friction coefficient is more unstable at the dry contact mode compared with that of other two rubbing modes such as oil film contact and mixed friction conditions.

Developement of Small 360° Oral Scanner Embedded Board for Image Processing (소형 360° 구강 스캐너 영상처리용 임베디드 보드 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose the development of a Small $360^{\circ}$ Oral Scanner embedded board. The proposed small $360^{\circ}$ oral scanner embedded board consists of image level and transfer method changing part FPGA part, memory part and FIFO to USB transfer part. The image level and transmission mode change unit divides the MIPI format oral image received through the small $360^{\circ}$ oral cavity image sensor and the image sensor into low power signal mode and high speed signal mode and distributes them to the port and transfers the level shift to the FPGA unit. The FPGA unit performs functions such as $360^{\circ}$ image distortion correction, image correction, image processing, and image compression. In the FIFO to USB transfer section, the RAW data transferred through the FIFO in the FPGA is transferred to the PC using USB 3.0, USB 3.1, etc. using the transceiver chip. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed small $360^{\circ}$ oral scanner embedded board, it has been tested by an authorized testing institute. As a result, the frame rate per second is over 60 fps and the data transfer rate is 4.99 Gb/second
