PURPOSES: To characterize the aging effect on asphalt binder, dynamic shear modulus mastercurve of two typical asphalt binders are developed. METHODS: To develop dynamic shear modulus mastercurve, dynamic shear modulus at high temperature and creep stiffness at low temperature are measured by temperature sweep test and bending beam rheometer test, respectively. RESULTS: It is observed that the aging effect on asphalt binder can be clearly observed from dynamic shear modulus mastercurve and the mastercurve can be utilized to predict behavior of asphalt binder at wide range of temperature. CONCLUSIONS: It is confirmed that SBS 5% modified binder has more desirable mechanical property at low and high temperature as a pavement material comparing to PG64-22 binder and the mastercurve is an effective tool to evaluate the property of asphalt binder.

A major purpose of this study is to develop high modulus asphalt mixtures for perpetual asphalt pavements which can save maintenance cost by increasing the design and performance periods of the pavements. Various physical and mechanical laboratory tests are performed for the high modulus asphalt binder developed in this study. The test results show that the properties of the high modulus binder are similar to those of the French high modulus binders. In addition to the binder tests, various performance tests are conducted for the high modulus and conventional mixtures. The dynamic modulus test results indicate that the dynamic modulus values of the high modulus mixtures are higher than those of the conventional mixtures by 10~15% at $5^{\circ}C$, 20~25% at $15^{\circ}C$ and 100% at $30^{\circ}C$. It is observed from the performance tests that the high modulus mixtures yield better fatigue, rutting and moisture damage performance than the conventional mixtures.

PURPOSES : The performance properties (indirect tensile strength, rutting resistance, and resilient modulus) of recycled aged CRM mixtures and their correlation with Superpave binder properties (viscosity, high failure temperature, $G^*sin{\delta}$, and stiffness) were investigated. METHODS: A series of Superpave binder tests was performed by using a rotational viscometer, DSR, and BBR to evaluate the performance properties. In addition, the CRM mixes were artificially aged through accelerated aging processes, and their properties were evaluated. The correlation between the properties of recycled aged CRM binders and the engineering properties of recycled aged CRM mixtures was experimentally determined. RESULTS : The rut depth values decreased and the ITS values increased with increasing high failure temperature. In general, the resilient modulus properties seemed to be poorly correlated with the high-temperature values, regardless of the aggregate source. CONCLUSIONS: The recycled aged CRM binders and mixtures can lead to satisfactory performance, and the properties of these binders are strongly correlated with the engineering properties of the mixtures.

The aim of this research is selecting an economical aggregate type for ultra-high strength concrete with 80 to 120 MPa of compressive strength. As the tests, the effect of water-to-binder ratios and types of aggregate on autogenous shrinkage of ultra-high strength concrete were evaluated. as the results of a series of tests performed, the slump flow was satisfied the target range of 600 ± 100 mm, and the concrete mixture with RLA showed higher elastic modulus than the other cases. For the autogenous shrinkage preventing performance, in the case of water-to-binder ratio of 15, and 20 %, the mixture with BA showed slightly improved autogenous shrinkage reducing effect than the mixture with RLA while the mixture with RLA showed better performance at 25 % of water-to-binder ratio. Therefore, based on the tests results of slump flow, elastic modulus, and autogenous shrinkage, the RLA is considered as a better aggregate type for this purpose.

High fluid concrete unlike OPC concrete is made with various material, and the phase of fresh concrete is considerably different. In order to understand fluidity phase and mix properties of high fluid concrete, concrete is required to access as suspension structure which consists of aggregate and paste. The focus of this paper is to analyze the test results and quantify the effect of mix proportions of molar and fineness modulus of ,and on the properties of fresh mortar. The effect of water-binder ratio, sand-binder ration, content; of ggbs (by mass of total cementitious materials), and various contents of water reducing agent on the yield stress and plastic viscosity of the mix is studied. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusion; can be drawn: (1) The mixing time needed (or high fluid mortar was approximately two times more than that of ordinary portland mortar. (2) The fluidity phase of mortar could be explained by yield stress of mix and the fluidity of mortar. (3) As the content of ggbs increased, yield stress of mortar was decreased and plastic viscosity of it was increased. (4) For the high fluid mortar, it was appeared that sand-binder ratio should be below 1.5.

Ultra high performance concrete(UHPC) represents high early age autogenous shrinkage strain due to its low water-to-binder ratio(W/B) and high fineness admixture usage. It has been reported that fiber can control restrained tensile stress and crack. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to investigate the autogenous shrinkage as well as mechanical properties including compressive strength, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity on the UHPC with fiber type and pre-mix of binder.

The Elastic modulus depends on the elastic property of composition materials, the gravity of aggregate, the bond strength of binder, the usage and quantity of admixture, curing and measuring method, etc. Accordingly, the aim of this study, by manufacturing concrete of practical high strength range(600~ 1000kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) with the specific cement and mineral admixtures, is to compare elastic modulus with the existing equations and also to estimate elastic property of use materials. As a result, it could be confirmed that the existing equations which were proposed by the ACI 363, CEB-FIP Code, and New-RC have a tendency to the overestimation in general. However, it could be confirmed that the KCI-96 and Norwegian NS 3473 equations are closed to measuring results, and that the elastic modulus property have a different tendency due to types of cements.

An experimental program was carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of high-strength concrete. High-strength concrete with compressive strengths of 80 to 120 MPa was tested. Test results are presented regarding effect of water-binder ratio on compressive strength and compressive strength gain. In addition, the effect of curing methods on compressive strength, elastic modulus, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture is investigated. Test results of elastic modulus, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture are compared with predictions from the current design recommendations. Predictions of elastic modulus by using KCI recommendation has good agreement with test results. However, predictions of modulus of rupture by using KCI recommendation underestimate the test results. ACI 363R recommendations predict well test results of splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture. ACI 363R recommendations for predicting splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture can be used for high-strength concrete with compressive strengths up to 120 MPa.
This study suggests long-life asphalt pavement method which can save maintenance cost by increasing the design and performance period of pavements. The high modulus asphalt binder developed and then various physical tests are performed. Laboratory performance tests and accelerated pavement test are conducted for the high modulus and conventional mixtures. The test results show that dynamic modulus values of high modulus mixtures are higher than those of the conventional mixtures, The high modulus mixtures yield better fatigue, rutting and moisture damage performance than conventional mixtures. Structural analysis is performed and a database is built up for long life asphalt pavement design. Pavement response model is developed through a multiple regression analysis program, SPSS using the database. A design software for the long life pavements is developed based on the pavement response model and laboratory and field performance tests results. In addition, optimum pavement sections and materials are suggested. The suggested AC thickness of long life asphalt pavement is 29cm. A Life cycle cost analysis(LCCA) is conducted to check the economical efficiency of the long life pavement section. The LCCA result shows that initial construction costs of long life and conventional pavements are almost equal, but long life pavement is more profitable in terms of the LCCA.
