Variable-Speed Prime Mover Driving Three-Phase Self-Excited Induction Generator with Static VAR Compensator Voltage Regulation-Part H : Simulation and Experimental Results-

  • This paper presents the digital computer performance evaluations of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by the variable speed prime mover such as the wind turbine using the nodal admittance approach steady-state frequency domain analysis with the experimental results. The three-phase SEIG setup is implemented for small-scale rural renewable energy utilizations. The experimental performance results give a good agreement with those ones obtained from the digital computer simulation. Furthermore, a feedback closed-loop voltage regulation of the three-phase SEIG as a power conditioner which is driven by a variable speed prime mover employing the static VAR compensator (SVC) circuit composed of the thyristor phase controlled reactor (TCR) and the thyristor switched capacitor(TSC) is designed and considered herein for the wind-turbine driven the power conditioner. To validate the effectiveness of the SVC-based voltage regulator of the terminal voltage of the three-phase SEIG, an inductive load parameter disturbances in stand-alone are applied and characterized in this paper. In the stand-alone power utilization system, the terminal voltage response and thyristor triggering angle response of the TCR are plotted graphically. The simulation and the experimental results prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed SVC which is controlled by the Pl controller in terms of fast response and high performances of the three-phase SEIG driven directly by the rural renewable energy utilization like a variable-speed prime mover.

  • 휴대용 전자기기가 많이 개발되고 보급됨에 따라서 배터리의 중요성은 점점 커져가고 있다. 기기의 수명을 늘이고자 고전력밀도의 배터리를 요구하게 되었고, 현재에는 리튬-이온 배터리를 많이 사용하게 되었다. 단위체적 및 중량당의 전력밀도 부분에서는 기존에 사용하던 배터리보다 성능이 우수하지만, 방전전압이 감소하는 특성이 있기 때문에 배터리의 수명을 최대한 늘리기 위해서는 이 특성에 알맞은 컨버터가 필요하다. 그래서 리튬-이온 배터리를 사용하는 휴대용 저전력 전자기기의 전원부로써 용량성 아이들링 SEPIC을 제안하였다. 승압과 강압이 가능한 SEPIC의 특성을 가지면서, 추가된 스위치와 다이오드를 통해서 스위치에 부분적인 소프트 전환을 가능하게 하기 때문에, 스위칭 주파수의 증가를 가능하게 한다. 본 논문에서는 직류 정상상태의 전압전환비, 동작모드별 회로 및 회의특성을 분석하고 구현하였다.

  • In this paper, high LO-RF isolation 94 GHz MMIC single-balanced mixer was designed and fabricated using a branch line coupler and a ${\lambda}/4$ transmission line. The 94 GHz MMIC single-balanced mixer was designed using the 0.1 ${\mu}m$ InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs Metamorphic HEMT(MHEMT) diode. The fabricated MHEMT was obtained the cut-off frequency($f_T$) of 189 GHz and the maximum oscillation frequency($f_{max}$) of 334 GHz. The designed MMIC single-balanced mixer was fabricated using 0.1 ${\mu}m$ MHEMT MMIC process. From the measurement, the conversion loss of the single-balanced mixer was 23.1 dB at an LO power of 10 dBm. The LO-RF isolations of single-balanced mixer was obtained 45.5 dB at 94.19 GHz. We obtained in this study a higher LO-RF isolation compared to some other balanced mixers in millimeter-wave frequencies.

넓은 입력 범위를 가지는 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 공진 주파수 변경을 통한 효율 개선 (Wide Input Range LLC Resonant Converter with Resonant Frequency Change for High Conversion Efficiency)

  • 수명이 짧은 전해 캐패시터 대신 필름 캐패시터를 링크 캐패시터로 가지는 컨버터의 경우, 매우 넓은 입력 전압 범위를 가질 수 밖에 없다. 일반적인 넓은 입력 범위를 가지는 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 경우, 변압기 인덕터($L_M$) 값을 작게 하여 순환 전류가 커지도록 설계될 수 밖에 없고, 이는 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 더 큰 도통 손실 및 더 큰 turn-off 손실을 야기하여 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 변환 효율을 감소시키게 된다. 이를 개선하기 위하여 공진 인덕터에 보조 권선을 감소, 추가 스위치를 이용하여 입력 범위에 따라 공진 주파수($f_O$)를 변경할 수 있는 컨버터를 제안한다. 제안하는 컨버터는 $L_M$ 값을 키워 정상 상태 시 도통 손실 및 turn-off 손실을 줄여 효율을 개선할 수 있으며, 낮은 입력 시 보조 스위치를 이용, $f_O$ 변경을 통하여 추가적인 Gain을 얻으면서 공진 인덕터의 철손을 줄여 넓은 입력 범위를 커버하면서 높은 변환 효율을 얻을 수 있다. 또한 제안하는 컨버터는 간단한 제어 방법과 낮은 전류 스펙을 가지는 작은 스위치를 사용할 수 있어 전력 밀도 증가를 최소화하면서 높은 효율을 가져갈 수 있다는 장점을 가진다.

  • 8개의 N과 P채널 EEPROM을 이용하여 A/D 변환기를 설계하였다. 프로그래밍 모드에서 EEPROM의 선형적 저장능력을 관찰하기 위해 MOSIS의 1.2㎛ double-poly CMOS 공정을 이용하여 셀이 제작되었다. 그 결과 1.25V와 2V구간에서 10㎷ 미만의 오차 내에서 셀이 선형적으로 프로그램 되는 것을 보았다. 이러한 실험 결과를 이용하여 프로그램 가능한 A/D 변환기의 동작이 Hspice에서 시뮤레이션 되었으며, 그 결과 A/D 변환기가 37㎼의 전력을 소모하고 동작주파수는 333㎒ 정도인 것으로 관찰되었다.

  • In significant number of energy-related facilities for like thermal power plant or petro-chemical industry, CrMo steels are widely used energy conversion industries. However, these materials undergo precipitation of carbides or intermetallic compounds into grain boundary and change of internal microstructure such as coarsening of precipitation, decrease of solute elements and impurity segregation under more severe service conditions, which results in deterioration of inherent superior material characteristics. In this study, it was verified experimentally the feasibility of the aging degradation evaluation for degraded 2.25Cr-lMo steel specimens prepared by isothermal aging heat treatment at 63$0^{\circ}C$ by high frequency longitudinal ultrasonic and surface SH wave investigating the change of attenuation coefficient analyzed by spectral analysis. Attenuation coefficient had a tendency to increase as degradation proceeded.

Semiautomated Analysis of Data from an Imaging Sonar for Fish Counting, Sizing, and Tracking in a Post-Processing Application

  • Dual frequency identification sonar (DIDSON) is an imaging sonar that has been used for numerous fisheries investigations in a diverse range of freshwater and marine environments. The main purpose of DIDSON is fish counting, fish sizing, and fish behavioral studies. DIDSON records video-quality data, so processing power for handling the vast amount of data with high speed is a priority. Therefore, a semiautomated analysis of DIDSON data for fish counting, sizing, and fish behavior in Echoview (fisheries acoustic data analysis software) was accomplished using testing data collected on the Rakaia River, New Zealand. Using this data, the methods and algorithms for background noise subtraction, image smoothing, target (fish) detection, and conversion to single targets were precisely illustrated. Verification by visualization identified the resulting targets. As a result, not only fish counts but also fish sizing information such as length, thickness, perimeter, compactness, and orientation were obtained. The alpha-beta fish tracking algorithm was employed to extract the speed, change in depth, and the distributed depth relating to fish behavior. Tail-beat pattern was depicted using the maximum intensity of all beams. This methodology can be used as a template and applied to data from BlueView two-dimensional imaging sonar.

DC-link Capacitor필름 형상에 따른 Joule-heat특성 분석 (Analysis of Joule-heat Characteristics according to the DC-link Capacitor Film Geometrics)

  • As global warming accelerates, eco-friendly electric cars are being developed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and power conversion inverters are used to drive motors. Among inverter components, DC-link capacitor is heated by high current usage, which causes problems such as performance and life-saving of inverter. Although metal cases with good thermal performance have been used to solve this problem, it is difficult to apply them in practice due to insulation problems with other parts. In this paper, the Heat-Generation influence factor of DC-link capacitor is analyzed. Variables on heat-generation are set at 3 levels for film width, inductance, and film thickness. Box-Behnken to 13 tests using the design and minimal deviations, e.g. through the experiment three times by each level. The surface of the film k type by attaching the sensor current is measured temperature. Capacitance was set to a minimum level of 200 ㎌ and had a frequency of 16 kHz with Worst case, ambient temperature of 85℃ and a ripple current of 50 Ams was applied. The temperature at the measurement point was collected in the data logger after sampling at 1 minute intervals for 2 hours after saturation with the ambient temperature. This experiment confirmed that setup factors are correlated with heat-generation.

  • Energy Harvesting is a technology that can convert wasted energy such as vibration, heat, light, electromagnetic energy, etc. into usable electrical energy. Among them, vibration-based piezoelectric energy harvesting (PEH) has high energy conversion efficiency with a small volume; thus, it is expected to be used in various autonomous powering devices, such as implantable medical devices, wearable devices, and energy harvesting from road or automobiles. In this study, wasted vibration energy in an automobile is converted into electrical energy by high-power piezoelectric materials, and the generated electrical energy is found to be an auxiliary power source for the operation of wireless sensor nodes, LEDs, etc. inside an automobile. In order to properly install the PEH in an automobile, vibration characteristics includes frequency and amplitude at several positions in the automobile is monitored initially and the cantilever structured PEH was designed accordingly. The harvesting properties of fabricated PEH is characterized and installed into the engine part of the automobile, where the vibration amplitude is stable and strong. The feasibility of PEH is confirmed by operating electric components (LEDs) that can be used in practice.

A 4×32-Channel Neural Recording System for Deep Brain Stimulation Systems

  • In this paper, a $4{\times}32$-channel neural recording system capable of acquiring neural signals is introduced. Four 32-channel neural recording ICs, complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs), a micro controller unit (MCU) with USB interface, and a PC are used. Each neural recording IC, implemented in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, includes 32 channels of analog front-ends (AFEs), a 32-to-1 analog multiplexer, and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The mid-band gain of the AFE is adjustable in four steps, and have a tunable bandwidth. The AFE has a mid-band gain of 54.5 dB to 65.7 dB and a bandwidth of 35.3 Hz to 5.8 kHz. The high-pass cutoff frequency of the AFE varies from 18.6 Hz to 154.7 Hz. The input-referred noise (IRN) of the AFE is $10.2{\mu}V_{rms}$. A high-resolution, low-power ADC with a high conversion speed achieves a signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) of 50.63 dB and a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 63.88 dB, at a sampling-rate of 2.5 MS/s. The effectiveness of our neural recording system is validated in in-vivo recording of the primary somatosensory cortex of a rat.
