  • Low temperature SiOx film process has being required for both silicon and oxide (IGZO) based low temperature thin film transistor (TFT) for application of flexible display. In recent decades, from low density and high pressure such as capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) type plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) to the high density plasma and low pressure such as inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) have been used to researching to obtain high quality silicon oxide (SiOx) thin film at low temperature. However, these plasma deposition devices have limitation of controllability of process condition because process parameters of plasma deposition such as RF power, working pressure and gas ratio influence each other on plasma conditions which non-leanly influence depositing thin film. In compared to these plasma deposition devices, neutral beam assisted chemical vapor deposition (NBaCVD) has advantage of independence of control parameters. The energy of neutral beam (NB) can be controlled independently of other process conditions. In this manner, we obtained NB dependent high crystallized intrinsic and doped silicon thin film at low temperature in our another papers. We examine the properties of the low temperature processed silicon oxide thin films which are fabricated by the NBaCVD. NBaCVD deposition system consists of the internal inductively coupled plasma (ICP) antenna and the reflector. Internal ICP antenna generates high density plasma and reflector generates NB by auger recombination of ions at the surface of metal reflector. During deposition of silicon oxide thin film by using the NBaCVD process with a tungsten reflector, the energetic Neutral Beam (NB) that controlled by the reflector bias believed to help surface reaction. Electrical and structural properties of the silicon oxide are changed by the reflector bias, effectively. We measured the breakdown field and structure property of the Si oxide thin film by analysis of I-V, C-V and FTIR measurement.

  • Over the past two decades there has been a tremendous growth in the number of synchrotron radiation facilities in the world and also in Japan. The high flux and brightness radiation which derive from the third generation low emittance rings provide an ideal source for many applications in the medical sciences. The application of synchrotron radiation to medical imaging started in the early 80's in U.S.A, followed by European countries such as Germany and Russia. In Japan, researchs on intravenous coronary angiography started in 1884 at the Institute for High Energy Phisics(KEK) in Tsukuba. At present, it is the only application of syncrotron radiation which is at the stage of human study. In '90s, newer techniques such as phase and refraction contrast imaging appeared which are at the in vitro or animal study stage. Various types of x-ray CT have also been developed for three-dimensional imaging of the subjects. The present status of medical applications of synchrotron radiation in Japan is reviewed.

  • The k-eigenvalue neutronics/thermal-hydraulics coupling calculation is a key issue for reactor design and analysis. Jacobian-free Newton-Krylov (JFNK) method, featured with super-linear convergence rate and high efficiency, has been attracting more and more attention to solve the multi-physics coupling problem. However, it may converge to the high-order eigenmode because of the multiple solutions nature of the k-eigenvalue form of multi-physics coupling issue. Based on our previous work, a modified JFNK with a line search method is proposed in this work, which can find the fundamental eigenmode together with thermal-hydraulics feedback in a wide range of initial values. In detail, the existing modified JFNK method is combined with the line search strategy, so that the intermediate iterative solution can avoid a sudden divergence and be adjusted into a convergence basin smoothly. Two simplified 2-D homogeneous reactor models, a PWR model, and an HTR model, are utilized to evaluate the performance of the newly proposed JFNK method. The results show that the performance of this proposed JFNK is more robust than the existing JFNK-based methods.

  • The present work used the efficiency transfer method used to calculate the full energy peak efficiency (FEPE) curves of the (2"*2" & 3"*3") NaI (Tl) detectors based on the effective solid angle subtended between the source and the detector. The study covered the effect of the self attenuation coefficient of the source matrix (with a radius greater than the detector's radius) on the detector efficiency. $^{152}$ An Eu aqueous radioactive source covering the energy range from 121.78 keV up to 1408.01 keV was used. In this study an empirical formula was deduced to calculate the difference between the measured and the calculated efficiencies [without self attenuation] at low and high energy regions. A proper balance between the measured and calculated efficiencies [with self attenuation] was achieved with discrepancies less than 3%, while reaching 39% for calculating values [without self attenuation] due to working with large sources, or for low photon energies.

  • Sodium alginate and chitosan are added to a $CaCl_2$ solution to prepare calcium-alginate-chitosan and calciumalginate gels. After dehydration through stoving, two types of adsorbent particles are obtained. The adsorption process of the particles obtained for low concentrations of $Sr^{2+}$ satisfies a second-order kinetic equation and the Freundlich adsorption model. The thermodynamic behaviors of the particles indicate that adsorption occurs via a spontaneous physical process. XPS pattern analysis is used to demonstrate the adsorption of $Sr^{2+}$ by calcium alginate and chitosan. By building an interaction model of the molecules of chitosan and alginate with $Ca^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$ to calculate energy parameters, Fukui index, Mulliken charge, and Mulliken population, adsorption of $Sr^{2+}$ on the molecular chains of chitosan as well as the boundary of calcium-alginate-chitosan is observed to show weak stability; by contrast, adsorption between molecular chains is high.

  • Theoretical considerations on a giant magneto-impedance (GMI) effect in amorphous ribbons (i.e., thin films) have been made in terms of the expressions of effective permeability and impedance derived in the frame of classical electrodynamics and ferromagnetism. The dependence of GMI effect on the external do magnetic field (H$\_$ext/) and the frequency of alternating current are simulated and discussed in the knowledge of energy conversion consisting of the current energy loss, the ferromagnetic energy consumption, and the magnetic energy storage in the film. The obtained results are summarized as follow: (a) As frequency f< 20 ㎒, the real part of effective permeability (${\mu}$′) changes slightly. The peak of the ${\mu}$′curve always locates at H$\_$ext/=H$\_$ani/ - the anisotropy field. However, the peak value of ${\mu}$′ tends to increase with increasing frequency in the frequency range of 11-20 ㎒. (b) In the frequency range, f= 21-23 ㎒, a negative peak additionally appears. Meanwhile, both the positive and negative peak values rapidly increase with increasing frequency and their peak positions shift towards a high H$\_$ext/. (c) The positive peak value of ${\mu}$′ starts to decrease at f= 29 ㎒ and its negative peak does so at about 35 ㎒. Then, both peaks keep such a tendency and their peak positions move to high H$\_$ext/, as increasing frequency. (d) The dependence of the imaginary part of effective permeability (${\mu}$") on the external dc magnetic field and the frequency of the alternating field indicates that there is only one peak involved in ${\mu}$" for the whole frequency range. (e) The impedance vs. magnetic field curves at various frequencies show that there is a critical value of frequency around f= 18-19 ㎒ where the transition between two frequency regimes occurs; the one (low frequency) in which ${\mu}$′ predominantly contributes to the GMI effect and the other (high frequency) in which ${\mu}$" determines the GMI effect.

  • We report on the spectroscopic investigation of optical-field ionized plasmas in the soft X-ray spectral region. The experiment was carried out by focusing pulses of the high-power Ti:Sapphire laser with an energy of ~ 40 mJ and time duration of ~30 fs into a gas jet of krypton, xenon, and argon from a pulsed nozzle. Strong soft X-ray emission on lines from ionic stages of $Kr^{7+} , Kr^{8+} , Xe^{7+} , Ar^{7+} , and Ar^{8+}$ is reported. The experimental result was found to be in good agreement with theoretical prediction.

  • Four plasma instruments are currently under development for KAISTSAT-4 (K-4) which is scheduled for launch in 2002. They are the Solid-State Telescope, Electro-Static Analyzer, Langmuir Probe, and the Scientific Magnetometer, that will respectively allow in-situ detection of high energy and low energy components of auroral particles, ionospheric thermal electrons, and magnetic field disturbances. These instruments, together with the Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph, will provide micro-scale physics of Earth's polar ionosphere with detailed spectral information that has not been previously achieved with other space missions. In this paper, we review the concept of the four space plasma instruments as well as the anticipated results from the instruments.

  • Recently graphene has emerged as a fascinating 2D system in condensed-matter physics as well as a new material for the development of nanotechnology. The unusual electronic band structure of graphene allows it to exhibit a strong ambipolar electric field effect with high mobility. These properties lead to the possibility of its application in high-performance transparent conducting films (TCFs). Compared to indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes, which have a typical sheet resistance of ${\sim}60{\Omega}$/sq and ~85 % transmittance in the visible range (400?900 nm), the CVD-grown graphene electrodes have a higher/flatter transmittance in the visible to IR region and are more robust under bending. Nevertheless, the lowest sheet resistance of the currently available CVD graphene electrodes is higher than that of ITO. Here, we report an ingenious strategy, irradiation of MeV electron beam (e-beam) at room temperature under ambient condition, for obtaining size-homogeneous gold nanoparticle decorated on graphene. The nano-particlization promoted by MeV e-beam irradiation was investigated by transmission electron microscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy elemental mapping, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. These results clearly revealed that gold nanoparticle with 10 ~ 15 nm in mean size were decorated along the surface of the graphene after 1.5 MeV-e-beam irradiation. A chemical transformation and charge transfer for the metal gold nanoparticle were systematically explored by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. This approach advances the numerous applications of graphene films as transparent conducting electrodes.
