  • The purpose of this study is to develop the high strength crushed sand concrete in conditions of water binder ratios of 25, 30, 35% and blast-furnace slag substitutions of 0, 15, 30, 45%. Additionally, in case of water binder ratio of 30%, the maximum size of coarse aggregate is two kinds of 13, 19 mm. The conclusions of this study are as follows ; 1. The compressive strength appeared lower in early age as compared with that of plain concrete according to increasing of the blast-furnace slag substitution. But, the compressive strength was respectively 5, 6, 10% larger than that of plain concrete in case of 25, 30, 35% water binder ratios, 28 days, 30% blast-furnace slag substitution and 19mm coarse aggregate. 2. According to increasing of the blast-furnace slag substitution, the modulus of elasticity and the tensile strength of concrete increased. 3. The length change by the shrinkage increased when the larger coarse aggregate was used, and decreased according to higher blast-furnace slag substitution.

  • In this study, the characteristic of strength development of high volume fly ash concrete(HVFAC) was experimentally investigated. The production of one ton of portland cement releases about 0.87ton of CO2 into the atmosphere. HVFAC is an emerging material technology and is environmentally friendly because of its reduced use of portland cement, reduced CO2 emissions. For this purpose, two levels of W/B were selected. Seven levels of fly ash replacement ratios and two levels of silica fume replacement ratios were adopted. In the concrete mix, the water content of 125kg/m3 was used, which is less than that of usual water content. As a result, it was observed that the slump of concrete was increased with the increasing fly ash replacement ratio and when the silica fume was incorporated into the concrete, the slump was significantly decreased at the same condition. It appeared that the compressive strength gradually decreased with increasing fly ash replacement ratio at the early age, but the difference of strength up to replacement ratio of 50% was little at the age of 91 days because of the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash.

  • Recently, lots of researches on concrete with high volume mineral admixture such as ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) have been carried out to reduce $CO_2$. It is known that the precast concrete has an advantage of high strength at early age due to steam curing, even if concrete has high replacement level of mineral admixture. However it demands the investigation of compressive strength properties according to steam curing regimens. In this study, concretes with water-binder ratio of 32, 35% and water content of 135, 150, $165kg/m^3$ were produced to investigate compressive strength properties of high volume (60% by mass) GGBFS cement concrete according to steam curing regimens. Then steam curing was implemented with the maximum temperature of 50, $60^{\circ}C$ and steaming time of 5, 6, 7 hours. From the test results, it was found that steam curing was effective to raise early strength of high volume GGBFS cement concrete, but 28 day compressive strengths of steam cured specimens were lower than those of water cured specimens. Thus, a further study would be needed for the optimum steam curing regimens to satisfy target demolded strength and specified strength for the application of high volume GGBFS cement concrete to precast concrete members.

  • This paper investigates the properties of high fluidity concrete incorporating lime stone powder and fly ash. Lime stone powder(LSP) and fly ash(FA) contents are varied with. According to test results, as LSP and FA contents increase, fluidity, air content and placeability shows a declining tendency. For the temperature history, both LSP and FA have favorable effects on reducing hydration heat, moreover, LSP reduces hydration heat more than FA. LSP shows undesirable strength loss as its content increases. FA also decreases the strength at early age, but it enhances later age strength. Accordingly LSP is expected to improve the quality at fresh concrete and reduce hydration heat, while it causes strength loss.

  • Rapid set accelerators are widely used in tunnel construction, however quality criteria of and dosage are not well established. The density and solid content of admixtures, setting time and compressive strength of paste and mortar with admixtures were investigated to establish the quality criteria. While the early strength of mortar with sodium-silicate, sodium-aluminate and calcium aluminate type admixtures that have high alkali content are very high, but long-term strength are low. Aggregates of shotcrete has to be carefully selected. Sodium-silicate type admixture need longer setting time than the others.

  • In this study, to investigate autogenous shrinkage behavior of 120MPa UHSC at early ages, free and restrained shrinkage tests are performed for various strength levels(50MPa, 80MPa, 120MPa). For 120MPa, the effect of fly ash on autogenous shrinkage was also investigated. In order to assess the potential for early-age cracking in concrete and a mixtures susceptibility to shrinkage cracking, restrained ring test was carried out. Test results show that autogenous shrinkage of UHSC was much higher than that of HSC, VHSC and fly ash delayed cracking age in UHSC by decreasing autogenous shrinkage.

  • This study investigated fundamental properties corresponding to mixtures for the high strength, and their properties of spalling prevention after a fire test. The results were summarized as following. For the flowability of using mixtures for the high strength, the target flow was satisfied with a small quantity of high performance reducing water agent to compare with silica fume. For the compressive strength in the case of using mixtures for the high strength, it was higher to compare with silica fume at 7 days, so it was proved that using mixtures for the high strength was profitable to prevent early frost damage. The compressive strength at the 28 days of silica fume and mixtures for the high strength were similar. There was no reduced tendency at the compressive strength according fiber contents, so it found out that the bonding strength between the fiber and concrete was hardly effective. For the spalling properties, the specimens without fibers were destroyed, however using over 0.05% of NY and PP fibers was effective to prevent spalling on the high strength concrete.

  • In this study, the experiment was conducted in the level of mortar as one of the basic studies on pre-cast concrete which acceleration curing is not done. This study has the purpose to develop the strength of mortar into 20MPa within 6 hours in the condition of room temperature using admixtures which can accelerate C3S hydration reaction. In this experiment, W/C was fixed into 20%, PCE which can stimulate C3S was used as an accelerating admixture. From the results of this experiment, maximum content of accelerating admixture was 1%. Also, as more than 20MPa was measured through 6-hour compressive strength, it can be known that strength can be developed without steam-curing.

  • In this study, various fundamental experiments including durability and time-dependent deformation are performed to compile a database for a utilization of high-strength concrete for PSC bridges. In the mix design, concrete strength at early age when prestressing forces are introduced to the PSC member and slumpflow suitable for pumping of concrete are considered to make a concrete fit for PSC bridges. The main parameters investigated are the kinds and replacement ratios of mineral admixtures and low-heat cement. Experimental tests on durability include penetration of chloride ions, freezing-thawing, combined deterioration, and simple adiabatic temperature rise test. In addition, time-dependent deformation such as creep, drying and autogenous shrinkage, which is particularly important factor in the design and construction of PSC bridges, is tested and analyzed.
