  • This paper presents the fundamental study on rational manufacture of Ultra High Strength(VHS) concrete using industrial by-products as like silica fume, slag and fly ash. In this study, we had tested various mixing cases to manufacture the UHS concrete(target compressive strength : over $1,000kgf/cm^2$) which is easily workable (target slump flow : $60{\pm}10cm$). The main variables are studied: 1) to find the optimum replacement ratio of mineral admixture. 2) to find a rational water-binder ratio and a proper binder content. 3) to find the method for reduction of slump loss. From the test results, it is concluded that the rational mix design can be made by using 40% slag, 10% silica fume. We found that compressive strength of UHS concrete increases according to decreasing W/B ratio but in W/B ratio 18~20%, the difference is vague and the compressive strength does not necessarily increase according to increasing binder content over 700kg.

  • The strength of ultra-high-strength concrete can be reduced even if the spalling is prevented at a high temperature. Therefore, in this study, we measured internal temperature history and residual compressive strength using a 300×300×450mm short column specimens which use the fiber(NY 0.15+PP 0.10+SF 0.30vol·%) and respectively silica sand, washed sand, the slag sand. As a result, the temperature history and residual compressive strength are almost similar regardless of the fine aggregate types.

  • As super-high-strength concrete uses a large amount of binder, there is an autogenous shrinkage strain larger than dry shrinkage and it degrades the quality of structures. Thus, we need a technology to minimize the shrinkage strain of super-high-strength concrete. Accordingly, the present study prepared super-high-strength concrete with design strength of over 100MPa and, using an embedded gauge, measured the shrinkage strain of free shrinkage specimens for super-high-strength concrete containing expansion agent. According to the results of this study, the expansion rate of concrete increased in the early stage due to the admixture of expansion agent, but the shrinkage rate went down with the lapse of time. The effect of the admixture of expansion agent on compressive strength appeared insignificant. Further research shall be made on different kinds of expansion agents and various mixture ratios for basic analysis to reduce autogenous shrinkage of super-high-strength concrete.

  • Recently, usage of ultra-high strengh concrete(UHSC) have been increased. Concrete has been recognized as a material which is resistant to high temperatures, but chemicophysical property of concrete is changed by the high temperature. So, mechanical properties of concrete may be reduced. Therefore, this study evaluated effect of the coarse Aggregate volume by high temperature mechanical properties of UHSC. Residual mechanical properties are evaluated under fine aggregate ratio 40,60% and 500℃ temperature on UHSC of W/B 15, 20%. As result, residual mechanical properties of UHSC are high by lower coarse aggregate volume.

  • This study is aimed to draw a optimum combined fiber mix condition to improve spalling resistance and flowability of ultra high-strength concrete. As a result, W/B 12.5% concrete specimens were prevented spalling with PE0.05+ PP0.1, PE0.05+NY0.1 and W/B 12.5% concrete specimens were prevented spalling with all of combined organic fiber mix condition. But There is no significant influence of steel fiber under 5% volume ratios to prevent spalling. In the scope of this study, we suggest that condition of optimum volume ratio PE0.05+NY0.1 is to improve spalling resistance, flowability and residual compressive strength.

  • Evaluation on the test of actual concrete member to confirm the fire resistance of the concrete member using ultra-high strength concrete is required. However, test equipment which has large loading capacity is needed to the actual member experiment. So, many researchers evaluated the fire performance through analytical studies using the material models. This study experimentally evaluated strain properties on ultra-high-strength concrete of 80, 130 and 180 MPa with heating and examined to apply the existing strain model about ultra-high-strength concrete. As a results, constants are drawn by method of least squares applying experimental values and calculated values by the existing strain model, it proposed strain model that can be applied to ultra-high-strength concrete.

  • In this study, the thermal strain of high strength concrete with the compressive strength of 80, 130, 180MPa were measured under 25% of compressive strength loading condition. As results, it is considered that decline of the elastic modulus and shrinkage strain of high strength concrete become grater at the elevated temperatures.

  • The aim of this research is selecting an economical aggregate type for ultra-high strength concrete with 80 to 120 MPa of compressive strength. As the tests, the effect of water-to-binder ratios and types of aggregate on autogenous shrinkage of ultra-high strength concrete were evaluated. as the results of a series of tests performed, the slump flow was satisfied the target range of 600 ± 100 mm, and the concrete mixture with RLA showed higher elastic modulus than the other cases. For the autogenous shrinkage preventing performance, in the case of water-to-binder ratio of 15, and 20 %, the mixture with BA showed slightly improved autogenous shrinkage reducing effect than the mixture with RLA while the mixture with RLA showed better performance at 25 % of water-to-binder ratio. Therefore, based on the tests results of slump flow, elastic modulus, and autogenous shrinkage, the RLA is considered as a better aggregate type for this purpose.
