  • The energy storage system is considered to be one of the useful devices for energy storing and recycling. the energy storage system can save energy cost and stabilize the system voltage. This paper presents the development of two energy storage systems. One is 750V system for light rail system. the other is 1500V system for heavy rail system.

  • For maintaining railroad, accumulated passing tonnage is a determinant factor of appropriate rail replacement time. Recently, Seoul Metro's rail maintaining system and technology is being improved from previous years, which increasing a standard of rail replacement. Thus, this brings importance of estimating and managing for accumulated passing tonnage. In case of light weighted train such as subway, current method of calculating accumulated passing tonnage has defaults of misrepresenting accumulated passing tonnage data. Because current method is based on the weight of passengers and train., and operation data. In addition, currently there is no mechanical and electronic system that could represent and support the accurate data between heavy and non-heavy traffic area, and accumulated passing tonnage is calculated inaccurately by estimating average value each line. The current method of calculating accumulated passing tonnage misleads to unpredictable data that represent inappropriate rail replacement period, which leads to under or over analyzed replacement period. If accumulated passing tonnage is over estimated, rail replacement leads to waste of budget. Hence, it is necessary to construct reliable actual measurement system to manage rail's life safely and efficiently, and in this study the accumulated passing tonnage measurement device is installed with using rail pad of optical fiber sensors and its effect is analyzed.

좌우유동 방지를 위한 대용량 단일 슬라이드 레일 시스템 개발 (Development of Single Slide-Rail System for Reduction of Unbalanced Sliding Motion)

  • A slide-rail system is widely used in home appliances, furniture, mechanical rigs, and so many other applications; due to its high strength and performance for easy moving heavy objectives. In general, a pair of side slide-rails is set on both sides of a drawer to support and move it. So an unbalanced sliding motion can occur during opening and closing a drawer with pull and push force. To settle this problem, single central slide-rail having three collapsible rail-bodies was firstly proposed in this work. 'H'-beam shaped rail-body was newly designed to have enough bending and twisting strength. The experimental test showed that the proposed rail could be applied to large-size home appliances for easy moving drawer with heavy weight.

  • This paper described the development of technology for LRT (Light Rail Transit) power system, which are sponsored by MOCT and supervised by KRRI. Especially, manufacture, interface between components and composition for DC Switchgear are focused. Most main components for DC switchgear(Protective Relay, HSCB, DS) are made by own. Also the type test report of international testing laboratory about the DC Switchgear based on IEC regulations is introduced. Finally the product will be proved based on field test.

강체전차선로 이행구간 Heavy Simple Catenary 적용을 위한 압상량 고찰 (A Study on the Uplift for Applying of Heavy Simple Catenary System in a Overhead Rigid Conductor Rail Transition Section)

  • The transition section of the overhead rigid conductor rail (ORCR) consists of a direct induction device and a limit point to prevent the power supply failure and failure of the electric railway vehicle pantograph due to the difference of the uplift in the catenary line. In T-Bar transition section, a twin simple catenary is mostly installed between the overhead catenary system (OCS) in the ground section and the ORCR in the underground section. In this paper, we compare and analyze the possibility of replacing the twin simple catenary with heavy simple catenary. The reliability of numerical analysis results was confirmed by comparing field test with numerical results. Comparing the numerical results of the twin simple catenary with the heavy simple catenary in the transition section, the difference uplift is 5.9[mm] on average. When applying heavy simple catenary instead of twin simple catenary, the slight difference of uplift can be compensated by adjusting the height of hanger-ear or support bracket.

  • To meet strict emission regulation while improving engine performances, common rail injection system which is suitable for electronic control, and capable of controlling injection quantity, timing, rate and pressure individually as well as realizing high pressure has been developed. At present study, a 8L DI diesel engine was converted to a single-cylinder experimental engine allowing optical access through an extended piston and a prototype of common rail injector in progress was applied to the engine. The combustion characteristics of the engine were analysed by using direct images and characteristics of the injector were analysed. We can not say that the results are always the same to general common rail injection system but that they are just characteristics of specific prototype injector.

Alternate Energy: Gravity Powered Rail Transportation Systems

  • A simple pendulum shows how efficient gravity is in recovering energy. Any transportation is a linearly oscillating system; every load gains kinetic energy, but loses the same to come to a stop. The Gravity Power Towers comprise of a set of vertically moving heavy masses coupled, through microprocessor controlled continuously variable gear and cable system, to a horizontally rolling unit on wheels either on rail or road. The heavy masses move vertically up against gravity gaining potential energy while stopping a moving mass; move down under gravity force, giving out energy. The Tower thus accelerates or sustains the speed a rolling unit, and while decelerating, recover the kinetic energy. Speeds of 360 kmph can be attained. Recovery of energy varies from 98.5-70%; the longer the distance between stops, the lesser is recovery. The economical, omnipresent & eternal Gravity Power grants energy independence to many a nation. Global warming reduces.

  • This paper presents the design of DC protection Relay for Light Rail Transit system, which is very beginning product in domestic. Protection Function characteristic, principle and I/O interface including interlock signal has been introduced. The protection algorithm and EMC characteristics have been certified by official organization and Type test report has been introduced. Up to date in domestic, the test procedure for DC Protection relay hasn't been established so the new method and test equipment based on IEC regulations are proposed. Finally the product will be proved based on field test.

  • This study of field control machine in the recycled vinyl rail is gantry crane type and promoting agricultural automatization through self-controlled spraying, harvesting and conveyance. In addition to, that control machine could get a cost and labor reduction effect through automatization and make better environment by preventing farmers from agrichemical damage, accidents and recycling wasted vinyl. That machine is able to be divided as traveling, spraying, harvesting and conveyance sections. In driving section consists of girder frame, carrier, rail, control system, driving system, working machine, rail and loading device for working machine. This machine has following advantages to be able to bring a big innovation in the agricultural industry. I) Accurate performance is able to be done by proper positioning due to based on the rails. 2) The soil is not made hard like heavy tractor 3) The wheel is not sank into the soil and slipped well under rain like heavy tractor. Therefore, weather and soil situation could not affect working condition. 4) Complete unmanned control and 24hours-working are available due to traveling on the rails. 5) It could use various energy resources like not only liquid fuel but also solar, common electronic power due to traveling on the rails.

  • To install heavy structures in the railway bridges, crane methods or launching methods using temporary structure have been applied. These methods are uneconomical because working yard is required, temporary cut of rail system, etc. In this study, various construction methods has been developed which are suitable to the filed conditions. In the case of simple span structure like plate girder bridges, the girder is loaded to troy system at the working yard and then transferred to the working place. To lift and lower the girder system, a new transfer system was developed. Different methods each for simple span bridge girder and long span girder were developed and detailed work procedures were proposed. Using these methods, the heavy structures can be installed with simple and safe work procedures and the construction cost and duration can be reduced.
