In this study, the effect of solution treatment temperature on the tensile property in intermediate thermo-mechanical treated Al-Li alloys are investigated. After the intermediate thermo-mechanical treated Al-Li, Al-Li-Mg and Al-Li-Mg-Zr alloys were solution treated at various temperatures (500, 520 and $540^{\circ}C$), these were aged at $190^{\circ}C$, $240^{\circ}C$ and tested tensile properties. The results obtained from the experiment are as follows ; 1) The optimum solution heat-treatment temperature is $540^{\circ}C$ for a Al-Li alloy, and the recrystallized grain size is about $70{\mu}m$. 2) The optimum solution heat-treatment temperature is $500^{\circ}C$ for a Al-Li-Mg alloy, and the recrystallized grain size is the most coarse in all alloys. 3) The tensile property is independent of the solution treatment temperature in a Al-Li-Mg-Zr alloy, and the recrystallized grain size is the finest owing to addition of Zr.
This paper proposed the strategies for controlling both the heater temperature and the output voltage of a single-phase inverter for the heat treatment. The single-phase inverter system for the heat treatment controls the heater temperature to its reference one, and also it limits the inverter output voltage to 60 V for safety. The stability may be deteriorated due to the large time constant difference between the heater temperature and inverter output voltage. In order to ensure the stability, a hysteresis on/off control approach for the heater temperature control is adapted, and both the open-loop and the closed-loop control strategies of the output voltage are suggested. The performances for the proposed strategies are demonstrated with the experiments.
The effect of various types of heat-treatment on the mechanical properties of cast Alloy 718 has been investigated. Cast Alloy 718 bars were subjected to 'standard heat-treatment'_(SHT), 'HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) heat-treatment'_(HHT), and 'HIP-simulated heat-treatment'_(HS). In the absence of long time high temperature heat-treatment, a small amount of Laves phase remained in the 'SHT' specimen, and needle shaped ${\delta}$ precipitated in the vicinity of the Laves phase. Due to the formation of the Laves and ${\delta}$ phases in the 'SHT' specimen, it exhibited lower tensile properties than those of the others_specimens. On the other hand, the Laves phase was completely dissolved into the matrix after 'HHT' and 'HS' treatments. It is known that isostatic pressure reduces the self-diffusion coefficient, because of the lower self-diffusivity under HIP conditions in the interdendritic region, Nb segregation and the high amount of ${\gamma}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ precipitation that occurs. Due to the higher fraction of coarse ${\gamma}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ phases, the 'HHT' treated Alloy 718 showed excellent tensile strength.
Among milk proteins, caseins are not subjected to chemical changes during heat treatment of milk; however, whey proteins are partially denatured following heat treatment. The degree of whey protein denaturation by heat treatment is decreased in the order of high temperature short time (HTST) > low temperature long time (LTLT) > direct-ultra-high temperature (UHT) > indirect-UHT. As a result of heat treatment, several changes, including variations in milk nitrogen, interactions between beta-lactoglobulin and k-casein, variations in calcium sulfate and casein micelle size, and delay of milk coagulation by chymosin action, were observed. Lysine, an important essential amino acid found in milk, was partially inactivated during heat treatment. Therefore, the available amount of lysine decreased slightly (1~4% decrease) after heat treatment, However, the influence of heat treatment on the nutritional value of milk was negligible. Nutritional value and nitrogen balance did not differ significantly between UHT and LTLT in milk. In conclusion, our results showed that heat treatment of milk did not alter protein quality. Whey proteins denatured to a limited extent during the heat treatment process, and the nutritional value and protein quality were unaffected by heat treatment.
This study investigated a developed process for producing a composite bipolar plate having excellent conductivity by using coal tar pitch and phenol resin as binders. We used a pressing method to prepare a compact of graphite powder mixed with binders. Resistivity of the impregnated compact was observed as heat treatment temperature was increased. It was observed that pore sizes of the GCTP samples increased as the heat treatment temperature increased. There was not a great difference between the flexural strengths of GCTP-IM and CPR-IM as the heat treatment temperature was increased. The resistivity of GPR700-IM, heat treated at $700^{\circ}C$ using phenolic resin as a binder, was $4829{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ which was best value in this study. In addition, it is expected that with the appropriate selection of carbon powder and further optimization of process we can produce a composite bipolar plate which has excellent properties.
Carbon-based electric double-layer capacitors are being evaluated as potential energy-storage devices in an expanding number of applications. In this study, samples of carbon black (CB) treated at different temperatures ranging from $650^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$ were used as electrodes to improve the efficiency of a capacitor. The surface properties of the heat-treated CB samples were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The effect of the heat-treatment temperature on the electrochemical behaviors was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and in galvanostatic charge-discharge experiments. The experimental results showed that the crystallinity of the CBs increased as the heat-treatment temperature increased. In addition, the specific capacitance of the CBs was found to increase with the increase in the heat-treatment temperature. The maximum specific capacitance was 165 $F{\cdot}g-1$ for the CB sample treated at $1000^{\circ}C$.
The destructive method is reliable and widely used for evaluating the properties of material but it is time-consuming and difficult to prepare specimens from in-service industrial facilities. In the present research, Barkhausen Noise (BN) has been used to evaluate changes of mechanical properties due to heat treatment condition. The BN voltage (rms voltage) was measured with grain size. The rms voltage of BN increased with the heat treatment temperature ($870{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$) because the grain size increased with the temperature. The rms voltage of BN decreased with various heat treatment processes, such as quenched, tempered and PWHT. The BN can be used for the nondestructive evaluation of the forged reactor vessels. and moreover, it may be effectively used in the field application.
The heat treatment machine based on immersion was developed to reduce temperature difference during netting process and appraised it performance compared current heat treatment machine using high pressure. It was also reviewed the optimum heat treatment procedures for PBSAT monofilament net in accordance with the immersion time and temperature. The procedure was based on physical measurement such as breaking load, elongation and angle of the mesh for PBSAT monofilament. The water temperature gap of the treatment machine based on immersion was less than $1^{\circ}C$. and the energy consumption was also increased in high temperature condition. It was identified that the optimum temperature was $75^{\circ}C$ and its optimum processing time was between 15 minutes and 20 minutes to get qualified physical properties.
The main purpose of milk heat-treatment is to improve milk safety for consumer by destroying foodborne pathogens. Secondly, heat-treatment of milk is to increase maintaining milk quality by inactivating spoilage microorganisms and enzymes. Pasteurization is defined by the International Dairy Federation (IDF, 1986) as a process applied with the aim of avoiding public health hazards arising from pathogens associated with milk, by heat treatment which is consistent with minimal chemical, physical and organoleptic changes in the product. Milk pasteurization were adjusted to $63{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes (Low temperature long time, LTLT) or $72{\sim}75^{\circ}C$ for 15 seconds (High temperature short time, HTST) to inactivate the pathogens such as Mycobacterium bovis, the organism responsible for tuberculosis. Ultra-high temperature processing (UHT) sterilizes food by heating it above $135^{\circ}C$ ($275^{\circ}F$) - the temperature required to destroy the all microorganisms and spores in milk - for few seconds. The first LTLT system (batch pasteurization) was introduced in Germany in 1895 and in the USA in 1907. Then, HTST continuous processes were developed between 1920 and 1927. UHT milk was first developed in the 1960s and became generally available for consumption in the 1970s. At present, UHT is most commonly used in milk production.
The present study was motivated by increasing demands on quantitative measurements of the heat flux through the water cooling and quenching process of hot steel. The local heat flux measurements are employed by a novel experimental technique that has a function of high-temperature heat flux gauge in which test block assemblies are directly used to measure the heat flux variation during water cooling and quenching of hot steel. The heat flux can be directly achieved by Fourier's law and is also compared with numerical estimation which is solved by inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP). The high-temperature heat flux gauge developed in this study can be applicable to measure cooling rate and history during the actual cooling applications of steelmaking process. In addition, the measurement uncertainty of heat flux is calculated by a quantitative uncertainty analysis which is based on the ANSI/ASME PTC 19.1-2005 standard.
