Four functional constituents, oxyresveratrol 3'-O-${\beta}$-D-glucoside (ORTG), oxyresveratrol (ORT), t-resveratrol (RT), and moracin (MC) were isolated from the ethanolic extract of mulberry (Morus alba L.) twigs by a series of isolation procedures, including solvent fractionation, and silica-gel, ODS-A, and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies. Their chemical structures were identified by NMR and FABMS spectral analysis. Quantitative changes of four phytochemicals in mulberry twigs were determined by HPLC according to cultivar, producing area, and heat processing. ORTG was a major abundant compound in the mulberry twigs, and its levels ranged from 23.7 to 105.5 mg% in six different mulberry cultivars. Three other compounds were present in trace amounts (<1 mg/100 g) or were not detected. Among mulberry cultivars examined, "Yongcheon" showed the highest level of ORTG, whereas "Somok" had the least ORTG content. Levels of four phytochemicals in the mulberry twigs harvested in early September were higher than those harvested in early July. Levels of ORTG and ORT in the "Cheongil" mulberry twigs produced in the Uljin area were higher than those produced in other areas. Generally, levels of ORTG and ORT in mulberry twigs decreased with heat processing, such as steaming, and microwaving except roasting, whereas those of RT and MC did not considerably vary according to heat processing. These results suggest that the roasted mulberry twigs may be useful as potential sources of functional ingredients and foods.
Heat transfer distributions and friction factors in square channels (3.5 ${\times}$ 3.5 cm) with twisted tape inserts and with twisted tape inserts plus interrupted ribs are respectively investigated. Tests are performed for Reynolds numbers ranging from 8,900 to 29,000. The rib height-to-channel hydraulic diameter, e/Dh, is kept at 0.057 and test section length-to-hydraulic diameter, L/Dh is 30. The twisted tape is 0.1 mm thick carbon steel sheet with diameter of 3.3cm, length of 90cm, and 2.5 turns. The square ribs are arranged to follow the trace of the twisted tape and along the flow direction defined as axial interrupted ribs. Each wall of the square channel is composed of isolated aluminum sections. The following conclusions from the experimental study were drawn as: 1) In the 4 heating wall channel with twisted tape inserts, Nusselt number based on bottom wall temperature is enhanced by 1.2 - 1.6 times if adding the axial interrupted ribs on the bottom wall only. 2) The twisted tape with interrupted ribs under the two-sided heating condition produces the highest heat transfer performance. 3) Friction factor data obtained for the square channel with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs are less than those in the past publications for circular tubes with axial interrupted ribs and twisted tape inserts.
In order to evaluate the performance of fire-protection foams used to protect structures from heat and fire damages, the thermal characteristics of them are experimentally investigated. This research focuses on the destruction of a fire-fighting foam subjected to heat radiation. A simple repeatable test apparatus for fire-protection foams subjected to fire radiation is developed. It involves a foam generation equipment, a fire source for heat generation, repeatable test procedures, and data acquisition techniques. Results of the experimental procedure indicated that each thermocouple within the foam responded in a similar manner and gradually to a temperature of 115℃~20℃. At this point, each trace generally rises to a temperature of approximately 90℃. The temperature gradient in the foam as time passes increases with increasing the foam expansion ratio. In addition, it is found that the temperature gradient along the foam for depth decreases with increasing the foam expansion ratio.
High speed steels with commercial compositions of 10V, Rex20, Rex25, T15, and ASP30 were gas-atomized and then consolidated by hot isostatic pressing (HIPping). The microstructures of gas-atomized powder, as-HiPped billet, and heat-treated billet have been characterized using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffractometer. In the gas-atomized powders, the solidification structures of 10V and Rex25 alloys show that primary MC carbides embedded within the fine equiaxed dendrites, whereas those of Rex20, T15 and ASP30 alloys exhibited eutectic MC and/or M$_2$C carbides in the interdendritic region. The trace and dendritic morphologies of gas-atomized powder have been retained in as-HiPped billets. The microstructures of as-HiPped billets have been observed to consist of ferrite, $M_6C$ and MC carbides in other alloys with the exception of 10V alloy, which consists of ferrite and MC carbides. The hardness of heat-treated billet makes a favorable comparison with that of as-HIPped billet. This seems mainly to be due to the strengthening by the precipitation of secondary carbides and the change of matrix phase from $\alpha$-ferrite to martensite.
Anomalies in the far-infrared [C II] 158 ${\mu}m$ line emission observed in the central one-kiloparsec regions of spiral galaxies are reviewed. Low far-infrared intensity ratios of the [C II] line to the continuum were observed in the center of the Milky Way, because the heating ratio of the gas to the dust is reduced by the soft interstellar radiation field due to late-type stars in the Galactic bulge. In contrast, such low line-to-continuum ratios were not obtained in the center of the nearby spiral M31, in spite of its bright bulge. A comparison with numerical simulations showed that a typical column density of the neutral interstellar medium between illuminating sources at $hv {\~} 1 eV $ is $N_H {\le}10^{21}\;cm^{-2}$ in the region; the medium is translucent for photons sufficiently energetic to heat the grains but not sufficiently energetic to heat the gas. This interpretation is consistent with the combination of the extremely high [C Il]/CO J = 1-0 line intensity ratios and the low recent star-forming activity in the region; the neutral interstellar medium is not sufficiently opaque to protect the species even against the moderately intense incident UV radiation. The above results were unexpected from classical views of the [C II] emission, which was generally considered to trace intense interstellar UV radiation enhanced by active star formation.
It is known that the natural amethyst is changed to citrine after heat treatment. However, when all amethyst samples from Zambia were heat-treated in the temperature range of $350{\sim}380^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, the result was that five out of eight samples were changed to citrine and all the rest of samples became rock crystal quartz. These differences in the color appearance seem to be influenced by the original colors contained in the amethyst before the heat treatment. The amethyst containing yellow color changed to citrine and the amethyst without containing yellow color changed to rock crystal quartz after the heat treatment. The results compared after the instrumental analysis on the difference of color change, it showed the differences of peak intensity in 3,400 $cm^{-1}$ and the existence and non-existence of peak at the range of 5,200${\sim}$5,400 $cm^{-1}$ in FTIR. It revealed the difference in the quantity of Cr which is a trace element in the WD-XRF analysis. The identical result in the FTIR spectra before and after the heat treatment reveals that the heat treatment did not cause any change in the main composing elements or crystal structure.
The thermal decomposition of the paper sludge with poly (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) was using a thermal analysis techniques in the stream of nitrogen gas of 30ml/min at various heating rates from 4 to $20^{\circ}C/min$. The mathmatical, derivative and integral method were used to obtain values of activation energy of decomposition reaction. 1. The values of activation energy evaluated by derivative and Intergral method were consistent with each other very well. 2. The maximum value of heat of decomposition evaluated by DSC method was 10.120cal/g at weight ratio of paper sludge/ABS=20/80. 3. The thermogravimetric trace curve agreed with the theoretical equation.
The Thermal decomposition of the ${\alpha}-Cellulose$ and NaCl was studied using a thermal analysis technique in the steam of nitrogen gas with 30ml/min at various heating ranges from 4 to $20^{\circ}C/min$. The Derivative and Integral method used to be obtained values of activation energy of decomposition reaction. 1. The values of activation energy evaluated by Derivative and Intergral method were consistent with each other very well. 2. The maximum value of heat of decomposition evalated by DSC method was ${\alpha}-Cellulose/NaCl= 90/10$. 3. The thermogravimetric trace curve agreed with the theoretical equation.

The time-dependent temperature distribution across the section in bridges is determined on the basis of the three-dimensional finite element analyses and numerical time integration in this study. The material properties which change with time and thermal stress of concrete are taken into account to effectively trace the early-age structural responses. Since the temperature distribution is nonlinear and depends upon many material constants such as the thermal conductivity, specific heat, hydration heat of concrete, heat transfer coefficients and solar radiation, three representative influencing factors of the construction season, wind velocity and bridge pavement are considered at the parametric studies. The validity of the introduced numerical model is established by comparing the analytical predictions with results from previous analytical studies. On the basis of parametric studies for four different bridge sections, it is found that the creep deformation in concrete bridges must be considered to reach more reasonable design results and the temperature distribution proposed in the Korean bridge design specification need to be improved.
Beef, pork and chicken on the market were analyzed for determination of tetracyclines residue and decomposition of tetracyclines by heating were studied. The content of oxytetracycline was trace in chicken A, 0.09 mg/kg in C and trace in beef C, pork A and B, but in the other samples was not detected oxytetracycline. Chlortetracycline residue was 0.14, 0.02 and 0.01 mg/kg in chicken A, C and beef B respectively. In HPLC analysis, two peaks of 8.1 and 9.0 min of retention time were found from beef and pork and expected to be component of meat, and because of same retention time, the one of 9.0 min interrupted determination of tetracycline. But those were not found in chicken, therefore the residue was 0.01 mg/kg in sample A. The residue were degradated rapidly by heating of roast, but slightly by that of boiling.
