Application Examples of CFD at the Planning Stage of High-Rise Buildings

  • Application examples of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the planning stage of high-rise buildings are introduced. First, we introduce examples of applications in the environmental field. The pedestrian wind environment was one of the earliest practical examples of CFD. CFD was also employed to validate the heat island mitigation measures proposed as part of the new construction plan. Second, application examples of wind-force evaluations are introduced. Prediction examples are presented for the peak wind pressure around a complex-shaped building and the wind force evaluation for a base-isolated building. The results prove that the results of the proper execution of CFD are equivalent to those of the wind tunnel experiment. As examples of CFD applications of other issues related to high-rise building planning, we introduce snow accretion on outer walls and high-temperature exhaust from emergency generators. Finally, the future prospects for the use of CFD are discussed.

Monitoring and spatio-temporal analysis of UHI effect for Mansa district of Punjab, India

  • Urban heat island (UHI) is one of the most important climatic implications of urbanization and thus a matter of key concern for environmentalists of the world in the twenty-first century. The relationship between climate and urbanization has been better understood with the introduction of thermal remote sensing. So, this study is an attempt to understand the influence of urbanization on local temperature for a small developing city. The study focuses on the investigation of intensity of atmospheric and surface urban heat island for a small urbanizing district of Punjab, India. Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS satellite data and field observations were used to examine the spatial pattern of surface and atmospheric UHI effect respectively, for the month of April, 2018. The satellite data has been used to cover the larger geographical area while field observations were taken for simultaneous and daily temperature measurements for different land use types. The significant influence of land use/land cover (LULC) patterns on UHI effect was analyzed using normalized built-up and vegetation indices (NDBI, NDVI) that were derived from remote sensing satellite data. The statistical analysis carried out for land surface temperature (LST) and LULC indicators displayed negative correlation for LST and NDVI while NDBI and LST exhibited positive correlation depicting attenuation in UHI effect by abundant vegetation. The comparison of remote sensing and in-situ observations were also carried out in the study. The research concluded in finding both nocturnal and daytime UHI effect based on diurnal air temperature observations. The study recommends the urgent need to explore and impose effective UHI mitigation measures for the sustainable urban growth.

토지피복유형 특성과 도시 온도의 관계 분석 - 김해시를 대상으로 - (A Study on the Relationship between Land Cover Type and Urban Temperature - focused on Gimhae city -)

  • 본 연구는 대한민국 경상남도 김해시를 대상으로 토지피복유형과 도시온도 간의 관계성을 분석하였다. 자료는 2000~2010년의 토지피복도와 MODIS 표면온도, RCP 기반 한반도 상세 기온자료를 활용하였다. 시가화지역의 면적비율과 표면온도의 상관성은 0.417, 농업지역은 0.512, 산림 지역은 -0.607로 나타났다. 표면온도와 기온의 상관성은 0.301이었다. 기온과의 상관성에서는 시가화지역이 0.275, 농업지역 0.226, 산림지역 0.350으로 분석되었다. 시가화지역과 농업지역은 면적이 증가할수록 표면온도와 기온이 증가하는 것으로 나타났고, 산림지역은 반대의 향상을 보였다. 구조방정식 모형 결과에서는 시가화지역과 농업지역은 표면온도 상승에 직접적인 효과가 있고, 산림지역은 기온 저감에 직접적인 효과가 있었다. 향후에는 지표면 부근에서 측정된 기온자료를 활용하여 공간특성의 변화에 따른 표면온도와 기온의 관계성을 파악하는 것이 필요하며, 이를 통해 도시 및 환경계획 차원에서 도시열섬 완화를 위한 방안을 마련할 것이다.

옥상녹화 적용확대를 위한 녹색건축인증제도 개선방안 연구 - 미국 LEED 및 영국 BREEAM의 비교·분석을 중심으로 - (Study on Improvement Measures of Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design for Expansion of Applying Green Roof - Focused on LEED in the USA and BREEAM in the UK -)

  • Green roof in Korea has been recognized as part of landscape area and local governments enacted municipal ordinance for supporting green roof thereby assisting part of expenses spent for green roof within a range of budget for buildings which are eligible for the green roof support of existing buildings. However, it is necessary to enforce a regulation of mandatory green roof for new buildings in order to expand green roof application and provide a variety of assistances such as subsidy payment, tax relief, and mitigation of floor area ratio-related regulation as done in other advanced nations. In particular, LEED(Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) in the USA applies additional point directly for green roof in terms of the reduction in heat island effects. For example, the following items are beneficial to have additional points: habitat preservation or restoration, external space, rainwater management, reduction in outdoor water usage, minimum energy performance, and optimum energy performance. In addition, the BREEAM(Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) in the UK specifies green roof as one of assessment items to be complied in terms of diversity of species. As such, LEED and BREEAM reflect direct and indirect effects of green roof on assessment criteria, which suggest a direction to green building certification criteria in Korea where only additional points are given for green roof according to soil depth.

공동주택 녹색건축인증기준의 외부공간 환경성능 평가지표 보완방안 - 기후변화 대응 측면을 중심으로 - (Complementary measures for Environmental Performance Evaluation Index of External Space of Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design for Apartment Complex - Focused on the Respect of Response to Climate Change -)

  • An apartment complex is a building use with great potential to contribute to solving problems related to urban ecological environment and climate change. The first goal of this study is to grasp the current situation of application and limitations of the ecological area rate, which is a representative evaluation index used to evaluate the environmental performance of the external space of an apartment complex in Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design (G-SEED). The second goal is to propose a prototype of the evaluation index for evaluating greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction performance in order to supplement the evaluation index for the environmental performance of the external space in terms of response to climate change. We analyzed 43 cases of apartment complexes certified according to G-SEED, which was enforced since July 1, 2010, and found application characteristics of each space type and the limitations of ecological area rate. We analyzed overseas green building certification systems such as LEED and BREEAM that derived implications for supplementing the limitations of ecological area rate, which is focused on the evaluation of soil and water circulation function, and set up a development direction of complementary measures. Through analysis of previous studies, relevant regulations and standards, and technical documents of the manufacturer, the heat island mitigation performance of the pavement and roof surfaces of the apartment complex and the carbon uptake performance of the trees in the apartment complex was selected as parameters to yield the GHG reduction performance of the external space of the apartment complex. Finally, a quantitative evaluation method for each parameter and a prototype of the evaluation index for the GHG reduction performance were proposed. As a result of applying the prototype to an apartment complex case, the possibility of adoption and applicability as an evaluation index of G-SEED were proved.

시설원예단지의 친환경적 조성을 위한 생태계서비스 기능 및 가중치 산정 (A Function and Weight Selection of Ecosystem Service Function for the Eco-friendly Protected Horticulture Complex in Agricultural Landscape)

  • 농업, 농촌경관은 다양한 생태계서비스 기능이 있지만 시설원예단지 개발은 환경보전에 대한 고려사항이 없어 단지를 조성 시 필요한 생태계서비스 기능 우선순위 분석을 실시하였다. 시설원예단지의 친환경적 조성을 위한 생태계서비스 기능 및 가중치 산정 방법은 총 3단계에 걸쳐서 진행되었다. 1차 조사결과 17개 기능을 개선방안으로 선정 하였고, 2차 조사에서 5개 기능을 제외 한 12개 기능이 선정되었다. 최종적으로 1. 수질정화 대책, 2. 지하수함양 방안, 3. 지표수저장 공간, 4. 홍수조절 대책, 5. 식생다양성 공간, 6. 탄소배출 저감 방안, 7. 수서곤충 서식 공간, 8. 양서파충류 서식 공간, 9. 경관 및 폐기물 대책, 10. 조류 서식 공간, 11. 열섬완화 방안, 12. 체험/생태교육 방안 순으로 고려할 것을 제안하였다. 기능 향상방법으로 수질정화 대책을 위해 수처리 시설의 구조, 유량, 용량, 유속, 배치, 형태 등 공학적 세밀한 접근과 계획을 제안하고 수질정화 식물인 벼, 부들, 줄, 부레옥잠, 물상추 등의 투입을 고려할 것을 제시했으며, 지하수 함양 대책을 위해 개발면적의 7-10%를 저류지 투입으로 제안하였다. 지표수 저장 공간과 홍수조절 대책을 위해 우리나라 실정에 맞는 저류지 및 저장시설 구조 개발을 제시했으며, 탄소배출 저감과 열섬완화 방안을 위한 녹지공간을 확보를 제안하였다. 생물다양성관 관련된 식생다양성, 수서곤충, 양서파충류 서식을 위한 서식처와 양액배출 관리를 제안하고 경관개선을 위한 녹지확보, 습지조성, 체험교육을 위한 시설투입을 거론하였다. 연구결과는 시설원예단지의 개선방안으로 활용하고 새로운 단지 개발에 있어 정책결정 자료로 활용 할 것을 제안했으며, 이러한 연구를 지속시켜 국가 생물다양성 및 국토환경보전, 지속가능한 농업에 이바지하길 기대하였다.
