In ultrasound-excited thermography, the injected ultrasound to an object is transformed to heat and the appearance of defects can be visualized by thermography camera. The advantage of this technology is selectively sensitive to thermally active defects. Despite the apparent simplicity of the scheme, there are a number of experimental considerations that can complicate the implementation of ultrasound excitation thermography inspection. Factors including acoustic horn location, horn-crack proximity, horn-sample coupling, and effective detection range all significantly affect the detect ability of this technology. As conclusions, the influence of coupling pressures between ultrasound exciter and specimen was analyzed, which was dominant factor in frictional heating model.
In this study, microstructure evolution and crystallographic orientation are investigated under various deformation conditions in M1 magnesium alloy. M1 magnesium ingot was rolled at 673 K with the rolling reduction of 30%. The compression test specimens were machined out from rolled plate, and then the specimens were annealed at 823 K for 1h. Uniaxial compression tests were conducted at 723 K and under the strain rate ranging from $5.0{\times}10^{-4}s^{-1}$ to $5.0{\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$ up to a true strain of -1.0. For observation of crystal orientation distribution, EBSD measurement was performed. Occurrence of the dynamic recrystallization and grain boundary migration were confirmed in all case of the specimens. The distribution of the grains is not uniformed in the experimental conditions.
We report the phase and microstructure evolutions of metal trifluoroacetate (TFA) precursor films in the TFA-MOD process of YBCO films on the LAO (100) substrates. It was confirmed that the precursor films were decomposed into $Y_2O_3$, $BaF_2$, and CuO nanoparticles after the initial heat treatment up to 400$^{\circ}C$. After a subsequent heat treatment at higher temperatures ranging from 700 to 850$^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, these nano-sized phases are converted into YBCO films. High Jc(77K, sf)-YBCO thin films (over 2 MA/$cm^2$) were successfully fabricated with firing temperatures ranging from 775 to 850$^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, where films were composed of dense microstructures with large grains.
In this study, the effect of addition of Ti and Co elements on microstructural evolution and characteristics of vacuum-casted Cu-25%Cr electrical contact material was investigated. The coarse and insoluble Cr phases with an average size of 300 ㎛ in commercial Cu-25%Cr alloy were reduced to tens of micrometers in vacuum casted Cu-25%Cr-X(X=Ti, Co) alloy, which can be interpreted as result controlling coarsening and the work-frame structure of the insoluble Cr phase by the formation of intermetallic compounds such as Cr2Ti or Cr0.5Co1.5Ti around the Cr phase As a result, the electrical properties such as weight loss and fusion resistance against the repeated arc generation of the electrical contact material as well as the mechanical properties were greatly improved.

This study tried to examine the suitability of strip casting process such as PFC (Planar Flow Casting) method for soldering Au-Sn strip. The effect of heat treatment on the tensile behavior and mechanical properties of an Au-Sn strip was investigated through tensile test, micro hardness test, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, and TEM observations. It was apparent that 20-mm width Au-Sn strip could be well produced by using planar flow casting process. Tensile results showed that tensile strength increased from 338.3MPa to 310MPa and plastic strain improved from 0% to 1.5% with heat treatment ($170^{\circ}C$/70 hrs.). The microstructure of Au-Sn strip mainly consisted of two phases; $Au_5Sn(\zeta)$ and AuSn($\sigma$). It was also found that inhomogeneous amorphous local structure continuously changed to the homogeneous two phases microstructure with heat treatment. The fractographical observation after tensile test indicated the cleavage fracture mode of as-casted Au-Sn strip. On the other hand, the heat treated Au-Sn strip showed that fracture propagated along interface between brittle AuSn and ductile $Au_5Sn$ phases. The deformation behavior of strip casted Au-Sn alloy with microstructural evolution and the improve method for ductility of this alloy was also suggested.
This study investigated the effects of annealing environment for the densification and purification properties of pure titanium coating layer manufactured by cold spraying. The annealing was conducted at $600^{\circ}C$/1 h and three kinds of environments of vacuum, Ar gas, and $5%H_2+Ar$ mixture gas were controlled. Cold sprayed Ti coating layer (as sprayed) represented 6.7% of porosity and 228 HV of hardness, showing elongated particle shapes (severe plastic deformation) perpendicular to injection direction. Regardless of gas environments, all thermally heat treated coating layers consisted of pure ${\alpha}$-Ti and minimal oxide. Vacuum environment during heat treatment represented superior densification properties (3.8% porosity, 156.7 HV) to those of Ar gas (5.3%, 144.5 HV) and $5%H_2+Ar$ mixture gas (5.5%, 153.1 HV). From the results of phase analysis (XRD, EPMA, SEM, EDS), it was found that the vacuum environment during heat treatment could be effective for reducing oxide contents (purification) in the Ti coating layer. The characteristic of microstructural evolution with heat treatment was found to be different at three different gas environments. The controlling method for improving densification and purification in the cold sprayed Ti coating material was also discussed.

This work sought to examine the suitability of twin roll strip casting for Ag-27%Cu-25%Zn-3%Sn brazing alloy (BAg-7A) and to investigate the mechanical properties and microstructure of the strip. The effect of aging heat treatment on the properties was also studied,. This new manufacturing process has applications in the production of the brazing alloy. XRD and microstructural analysis of the Ag-27%Cu-25%Zn-3%Sn strip represented eutectic microstructure of a Cu-rich phase and a Ag-rich matrix regardless of heat treatment. The results of mechanical tests showed tensile strength of 470MPa, a significant enhancement, and an 18% elongation of the twin roll casted strip, due mainly to the solid solution strengthening of Zn atoms (${\sim}20%$) in the Cu-rich phases. Tensile results showed gradually decreasing strengths and increasing elongation with aging heat treatment. Microstructural evolution and fractography were also investigated and related to the mechanical properties.

Crude cytoplasmic fraction of phototrophic purple sulfur bacterium, Thiocapsa roseopersicina NCIB 8347, were initially prepared and purified by sonication, ultracentrifugation, ammonium sulfate fractionation and heat-treatment and it has been previously reported. Using various applications of chromatography far the purification of membrane-bound and soluble hydrogenases from heat-treated enzyme fraction were studied at present report. When the heat-treated enzyme preparation was applied to the anion column chromatography using Q-sepharose, Fraction I and II, which were extracted with the KCl 0-0.5 M gradient, showed the specific evolution hydrogenase activity 3.86 and 2.27 U/mg-protein respectively. Specific hydrogenase activitys of Fraction I and II were further increased to 4.35 and 7.46 U/mg-protein for Fraction I and to 2.49 and 4.41 U/mg-protein fur Fraction II respectively, when hydrophobic interaction column, Phenyl superose, and anion exchange column, Mono-Q, were applied. Size exclusion chromatography using superdex 200 concentrated the hydrogenase Fraction I and II to 9.19 and 7.84 U/mg-protein respectively at the final step of purification.
High resolution observations of cluster of galaxies by Chandra have revealed the existence of an X-ray emitting comet-like galaxy C153 in the core of cluster of galaxies A2125. The galaxy C153 moving fast in the cluster core has a distinct X-ray tail on one side, obviously due to ram pressure stripping, since the galaxy C153 crossed the central region of A2125. The X-ray emitting plasma in the tail is substantially cooler than the ambient plasma. We present results of two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the time evolution of a sub clump like C153 moving in magnetized intergalactic matter. Anisotropic heat conduction is included. We found that the magnetic fields are essential for the existence of the cool X-ray tail, because in non-magnetized plasma the cooler sub clump tail is heated up by isotropic heat conduction from the hot ambient plasma and does not form such a comet-like tail.
The (0.8PPV+0.2DMPPV) copolymer and silica/borosilicate composites were synthesized by sol-gel process. The organic-inorganic hybrid solution was prepared by using of (0.8PPV+0.2DMPPV) copolymer precursor solution as a raw material for organic components and TEOS and TMB for glass components. Then by drying the solution in vacuum at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for 7days and subsequent heat treatment in vacuum at 15$0^{\circ}C$~30$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h~72h with heating rate of 0.2$^{\circ}C$/min and 1.8$^{\circ}C$/min, the organic-inorganic composites were synthesized. Microstructural evolution of the composites was characterized by DSC, IR spectrocopy, UV/VIS spectroscopy, and TEM. Elimination of the polymer precursor and degradation of the polymer were observed by DSC and Si-O and trans C=C absorption peaks were identified by IR spectra. The polymer was found to be successfully incorporated into the glass matrix and it was confirmed by the absorption peaks from the polymer in the UV/VIS spectra and the TEM results. The absorption peak of the composites was found to shift toward short wavelength side compared to that of the pure polymer and the amount of the blue shift increased with increasing the heat treatment temperature and heat treatment time and with decreasing the heating rate.
