  • This study was carried out in order to analyze a repletion possibility about color change of base paper after elevated heat exposure when wooden fillers were added. Fillers may reduce production cost because its price is usually inexpensive than pulp with higher bulkiness. Wooden fillers have lower density than inorganic fillers, so they may increase bulk more than inorganic fillers. Never the less wooden fillers have disadvantage of yellow color by heat exposure, so the addition level should be carefully controlled. Brightness and whiteness changes after elevated heat exposure depending on coating weight were analyzed. With wooden fillers addition, breaking length and surface strength decreased but bulkiness increased. As the exposure time of elevated heat increased the coating paper with wooden fillers addition had higher brightness and whiteness values than those of inorganic fillers.

  • A phase-change material is a substance with a high heat of fusion which, melting and freezing at a certain temperature, is capable of storing and releasing large amounts of energy. Heat is absorbed or released when the material changes from solid to liquid. Therefore, PCMs are classified as latent heat storage (LHS) units. The purpose of this study is to analyze PCM wallboard design parameters using dynamic energy simulation. Among the factors of PCM, melting temperature, latent heat, phase change range, thermal conductivity are very important element to maximize thermal energy storage. In order to analyze these factors, EnergyPlus which is building energy simulation provided by department of energy from the U.S is used. heat balance algorithm of energy simulation is conduction finite difference and enthalpy-temperature function is used for analyzing latent heat of PCM. The results show that in the case of melting temperature, the thermal energy storage could be improved when the melting temperature is equal to indoor surface temperature. It seems that when the phase change range is wide, PCM can store heat at a wide temperature, but the performance of heat storage is languished.

  • The heat budget is investigated in the Gumi Reservoir of the Nakdong river. In warm climate season, solar radiation effects play a important role in the change of water temperature. The features of the surface heat balance are almost derived by the latent heat flux and the solar radiation flux. On the other hand, in cold climate season, change of heat stored in the water is mainly dominated by latent and sensible heat transfer between water and air, since flux of solar radiation and loss of outgoing long wave radiation balance approximately. For the annual averages, net flux of radiation, evaporation(latent heat) loss are dominant in the Gumi reservoir. The evaporation losses are dominant from spring to early winter. This means that the Gumi reservoir rolls like a lake of thermal medium or deep depth.

  • Purpose: Generally, 30% of the total energy consumption in office building is used for artificial indoor lightings, and almost 75-85% of electric power in fluorescent and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lightings can be dissipated as a form of heat into indoor environment. The heat generated by indoor lightings can cause the increase of cooling load in office buildings. Thus, it its important to consider indoor lightings as a heat and light source, simultaneously. Method: In this study, we installed two kinds of indoor lightings including fluorescent and LED lightings and measured surface temperature of both indoor lightings. In addition, we obtained ambient temperature of indoor space and finally calculated total heat dissipated from plenum area and surface of lightings. Result: Total indoor heat gain was 87.17Wh and 201.36Wh in cases of six 40W-LED lightings and 64W-fluorescent lightings, respectively.

  • The advantages of a printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) are the compactness and efficiency derived from its heat-transfer characteristics; furthermore, a PCHE for which a diffusion bonding method was used during production can be applied to extreme environments such as a cryogenic condition. In this study, a micro-channel PCHE fabricated by diffusion bonding was investigated in a cryogenic environment regarding its thermal performance and the pressure drop. The test rig consists of an LN2 storage tank, vaporizers, heaters, and a cold box, whereby the vaporized cryogenic nitrogen flows in hot and cold streams. The overall heat-transfer coefficients were evaluated and compared with traditional correlations. Lastly, we suggested the modified heat-transfer correlations for a PCHE in a cryogenic condition.

(1) Most of fundamental studies on fluid flow were related with heat transportation in diverse facilities. Drop formation and rivulet flow on solid surfaces were interesting topics related with condensation augmentation. Research on micro environment considering flow, heat transfer, humidity was also interesting to promote comfortable living environment. It can be extended considering biological aspects. Development of fans and blowers of high performance and low noise were continuing research topics. Well developed CFD technologies were widely applied for analysis and design of various facilities and their systems. • The growth of impermeable layers in the city center due to today's urban development is emerging as a major cause of urban heat island effects as well as recurring inland flood damages. In order to cope with such disasters caused by climatic changes, an artificial ground afforestation system is suggested as a fundamental solution that addresses both water environment and heat environment. For the afforestation system to replace the current disaster prevention facilities, quantitative performance verification through related numerical analysis models and actual survey monitoring is necessary. Therefore, this study seeks to propose the performance predication method for the heat environment of the afforestation system by looking into correlations between measurements by physical vegetation indicators such as LAI and FVC and forecasts from FASST, a vegetation canopy model used by US Corps of Engineers.

  • A fast running model comprising the climate change effects is proposed for urban heat environment simulations so as to be used in urban heat island studies and/or the urban planning practices. By combining Hot City Model, a high resolution urban temperature prediction model utilizing the Lagrangian particle tracing technique, and the numerical weather simulation data which are constructed up to year of 2100 under the climate change scenarios, an efficient model is constructed for simulating the future urban heat environments. It is applicable to whole city as well as to a small block area of an urban region, with the computation time being relatively short, requiring the practically manageable amount of the computational resources. The heat environments of the entire metropolitan Seoul area in South Korea are investigated with the aid of the model for the present time and for the future. The results showed that the urban temperature gradually increase up to a significant level in the future. The possible effects of green roofs on the buildings are also studied, and we observe that green roofs don't lower the urban temperature efficiently while making the temperature fields become more homogeneous.

  • In order for effective heat island reduction policies to be proposed, this research made use of the land usage and land coverage and Temperature of cities, Coordinate axis data within 500 meters of nationwide automatic weather stations (478 points) in order to analyze the correlation of summertime temperatures through multiple regression analysis. This research also developed a model and empirically analyzed the urban heat island reduction effect of factors that affect regional temperatures. Heat islands cause environment deterioration and therefore can harm citizens' health, and also affects the city's metabolism process. Thus in order to restrain regional temperature rises the conclusion was drawn that consideration to increase forest areas on part of land usage planning is needed. Appropriate policy measures to regulate traffic related factors are also needed to restrain regional temperature rises. In order for future heat island reduction this research proposes a way to set up more effective policies and urban sustainability improvement strategies, and is significant in that it makes use of detailed data such as land usage and land coverage, Temperature of cities, Coordinate axis in analyses.

  • The thermal effect of a transparent insulated opake wall with solar energy was investigated theoretically. The heat gain through transparent insulated opake wall was studied for relative simple conditions. The stationary heat transport effect was studied for layer which is built on the opake wall. This study shows that a relative low solar radiation intensity causes a great heat reduction through the transparent insulated opake wall. Because the transparent insulation layer is mostly transparent to solar radiation, it is opaque to heat radiation.
